The Senators answered the Sea Dogs two-run rally in the 7th with one of their own but were speechless after Portland did it again in the 9th and lost, 4-2. The loss went to Kyle Barraclough who was charged with two runs on two hits and two walks over an inning and 2/3rds. The Harrisburg offense managed just five hits and needed the help of an error and a passed ball to avoid the shutout.

Kyle Johnston gave up all three Woodpecker runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four over five and 2/3rds innings. Andrew Istler came on to get the last out of the 6th, stranding one, and went the rest of the way to pick up the win. Gage Canning doubled in two in the 2nd and scored the gamewinner in the 8th on K.J. Harrison’s bases-loaded, two-out walk. Canning, Aldrem Corredor, and Osvaldo Abreu each had two hits to pace the offense.

DSL UPDATE
Somehow, it appears that one but two D-Nats appeared in last Sunday’s DSL All-Star Game. 17-y.o. Yoander Rivero was hit by a pitch in his lone plate appearance while 17-y.o. Ronni Montero gave up a single to the only batter he faced. This week, the D-Nats broke into double digits with their 10th win in 47 games.
Roster moves: 18-y.o. Michael Francisco assigned from the Washington Nationals (July 17).
Fantastic pitching performances by Tapani (wow!) and Istler. Nice to see Big Gabe Klobosits back in action.
Barraclough and Taylor are headed for non-tender status at the end of the season. What a disappointment they’ve been.
Difo and Grace, who will be arbitration eligible a due for sizable raises, will likely join them. Fedde, Voth and Ross will be out of options, and with other young starters knocking at the door who will have to be added to the 40-man roster (Crowe, Braymer), something is going to have to give somewhere in the numbers game.
It sure seems that Aaron Barrett is pitching well. But maybe he is out of options so he can’t be send up and down like other folks.
He has two left, but as noted the day before, Barrett has had trouble with avoiding baserunners. Sorry, but an MLB-caliber reliever should be putting up clean innings 2/3rds of the time against AA hitters instead of vice-versa.
