Fresno 2 El Paso 0
• McGowin (W, 2-2) 6+ IP, 2H, 0R, 3BB, 9K; 2-3, R, 2-2B
• Self 2IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 2K, WP
• Noll 2-4, RBI
• Stevenson 2-4, RBI
Three Grizzlies pitchers combined to shut out the Chihuahuas, 2-0 on three hits to stop a seven-game losing streak. Kyle McGowin struck out a season-best of nine while walking three and giving up two hits over six-plus innings. At the plate, he doubled twice and scored a run. Vidal Nuño3 stranded a runner while giving up the third hit in the 7th while Derek Self put up two goose eggs to secure the save, his first of the season. Jake Noll and Andrew Stevenson both went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Fresno’s 12-hit parade.
Harrisburg 7 Trenton 4
• Braymer (W, 2-1) 7IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 5K, 2HR
• Barrett (SV, 6) 1IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 2K
• Wiseman 3-4, 2R, 2B, HR(10), RBI
• Garcia 2-4, R, 2B, 3B
• C. Taylor 1-3, R, 3B, BB, 2RBI
Harrisburg still has yet to lose back-to-back games as they took the series opener from Trenton, 7-4. Ben Braymer gave up just two hits, but those two hits were homers as he won his second game with seven otherwise strong innings with two walks and five whiffs. After Tylor Guilbeau made things uncomfortable with a two-run 8th (walk, HR), Aaron Barrett settled things down in the 9th for his sixth save. Rhett Wiseman and Drew Ward both homered while Chuck Taylor’s two-run triple highlighted the Sens’s three-run 5th where they opened a 3-2 to game to take a 6-2 lead.
Roster move: OF O’Koyea Dickson assigned from XST.
Potomac 4 Winston-Salem 1
• Johnston (W, 2-4) 6IP, 5H, 0R, 3BB, 3K
• Bartow (SV, 2) 2IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 2K
• Agustin 4-4, R, SB, OF assist at 3B
• Harrison 2-4
Kyle Johnston improved to 2-0 with an ERA of 0.77 against the Dash as the P-Nats took the series finale, 4-1 to earn a split of the four-game series. Johnston threw six scoreless innings with five hits and three walks allowed and three set down on strikes. Winston-Salem got one back against Jeremy McKinney in the 7th but Frankie Bartow closed it out with two scoreless for the save, his second. Veterans David Masters and Osvaldo Abreu both went yard while Telmito Agustin singled four times to lead the P-Nats attack.
Hagerstown 7 Asheville 3
• Adon (W, 2-1) 5⅔ IP, 3H, R, ER, BB, 8K
• Fletcher 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Marinconz 2-5, R, 2B, HR, 4RBI
• Perkins 1-3, 2R, 2B, BB, 2PB(6)
• Wilson 1-4, R, 2B, 2RBI, BB
Hagerstown had but six hits… but five of them were for extra bases as the Suns took advantage of six Asheville walks to mug the Tourists, 7-3. Joan Adon fanned a career-best eight in five and 2/3rds innings while letting in a run on three hits and one walk as he won for the second time. Chandler Day kept with the theme of making things interesting with two runs allowed in the 7th, but not enough to qualify Aaron Fletcher’s six-up, six-down effort for a save. Kyle Marinconz doubled and homered while Nic Perkins did another Raudy Read imitation with two passed balls on defense and two runs scored on offense. Gilbert Lara singled once to extend his hit streak to 17 games.
It was another entertaining evening on city island last night. The Sens were pounding the ball as Ward hit one if the longest homers I have seen in my 24 years of attending games.
Not only have the Sens not lost back to back games, but they have not lost a night game. All 5 losses were day games.
Also, Davidson almost had his first home run of the year, but was robbed by the Trenton right fielder.
Thanks LM
McGowin doing his best Syndergaard impression, single handedly winning the game from the mound and the batter’s box.
Nice pitching performances up and down the farm. Impressive start by Adon.
I may have missed this, since I’ve been a little MIA this season so far, but is there any word on Denaburg? Is he in XST, or is he dealing with some kind of injury?
As a HS draft pick, he was always expected to start in short season ball- most likely the GCL.
I haven’t heard any updates on his status though.
Who is O’Koyea Dickson? Where did the Nats get him and why was he assigned to AA?
Old Dodger farmhand – winter FA
Dodgers drafted O’Koyea Dickson in 2011. He was productive in enough in 6 minor league seasons to make his Dodger debut in 2017. Dickson has a hit off Madison Bumgarner; he then got hurt, and signed to play in Japan in 2018. Nats signed him in February.
He is 29.
It’s looking like there will be a major reordering of the Nats’ Top 30. Prospects list at medseason as many on the list are having abysmal seasons while an equal number of unranked guys look like they’ve stepped up their game.
I find Wiseman’s season to be particularly intriguing give that he was a 3rd round pick and his power surge has come without a corresponding increase in strikeouts (versus Ward, whose strikeout rate continues to be prohibitive). In any event, this has been the first year since about 2010 when following the minors has been a lot more fun than doing so for Rizzo’ most outstanding dumpster fire.
luke. hello from London.
Kiss me Cate goodbye to Potomac??
Logans run begins his rehab at Burg. Could he be a sleeper and reach the Menhart revamped pen? one never knows.
Agustin coming on Cane.
Time to stretch out Tapani into an A 1-4-5 starter at Hags versus middle relief or B duty.
