Cards Edge Nats (Again), 3-2
St. Louis got to Max Scherzer for three runs in the 3rd and that proved to be enough as Washington fell back to .500 with (another) 3-2 loss.
Scherzer, who was named Opening Day starter, gave up six hits and a walk over five and a 1/3rd innings while striking out two was charged with his second loss of the spring.
It was light afternoon for the watchlist players, with just two appearing in the game:
● Victor Robles subbed for Michael Taylor in CF and flew out to lead off the 8th
● Jake Noll followed Ryan Zimmerman at 1B and flew out to finish the 8th
Tonight, the Nationals play as the home team against their co-tenants in West Palm Beach. Stephen Strasburg is scheduled to make his third spring start opposite Justin Verlander. The game can be seen on MLB.tv and heard on MLB Audio. (Astros feed for both).
Mark Scialabba was on 106.7 last night with Charlie & Dave. Only caught bits and pieces of it. He praised Noll’s work ethic, which isn’t too surprising considering they gave him the Boone award. When asked about someone who might not be on people’s radar, Scialabba mentioned Joan Adon, said he really took off during the Instructional League last fall, has filled out some over the winter, and is blowing folks away this spring. It will be interesting to see if they’re excited enough about him to skip Auburn and send him on to Hagerstown. There figures to be a backlog of starters at Hags, though, with all the college arms from the last two drafts.
