Carter Kieboom Born: 9/3/97 Ht. 6’2″ Wt. 190 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
After a horrific April (.198/.308/.347), Kieboom caught fire on offense (.301/.370/.469 last 99G) and eased some of the doubts about his defense, though he did commit 26 errors in 118 games at SS. He played nine games at 2B in the AFL, which just happens to be the current hole in the big club’s lineup. Scouts still consider the bat above the glove and praise his ability to hit to all fields with power.
Luis Garcia Born: 5/16/00 Ht. 6′ Wt. 190 Bats: L Throws: R Career Stats |
The Nats challenged Garcia with Low-A and he responded with a .742 OPS across two levels, finishing the season in High-A. There have been oblique comps to Juan Soto in terms of his ability to make adjustments within an at-bat. As one might expect, there has been a power-speed tradeoff as he went deep seven times but only stole 12 bases. Likewise, there’s a belief that he might not have the quickness to stick at SS though he has the arm.
Jose Sanchez Born: 7/12/00 Ht. 5’11” Wt. 155 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
The youngest of the Nats’ celebrated 2016 IFA trio of SS’s, Sanchez has thus far proven to be the least competent with the bat (career .564 OPS). After doing the 4-5-6 shuffle in the GCL, Sanchez settled on 6 for 2018 season. Despite making 17 errors in 64G, he’s considered the best defender of the three, with plus hands, footwork, and an above-average arm. Given that he won’t turn 19 until July, he’ll most likely repeat the NYPL while figuring out how to hit. |
