Syracuse 7 Toledo 6
• Dragmire 6IP, 9H, 5R, 5ER, BB, 4K
• Robles 1-4, BB
• Marmolejos 3-3, 2R, 2BB, 2RBI
Roster moves: LHP Sammy Solis optioned from Washington; LHP Tim Collins added to 40-man, recalled to Washington; RHP Trevor Gott recalled to Washington.
Harrisburg 15 Erie 3
• Vargas (W, 1-1) 5IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 4BB, 7K, HR
• Mendez 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Kieboom 4-5, 5R, 2B, 3B, 2HR, BB, 4RBI
• Noll 3-5, R, 2B, 2RBI
• Gamache 3-6, R, 2B, 2RBI
• Read 3-6, R, 2-2B
Carter Kieboom couldn’t bothered with merely hitting a single as he got four extra-base hits in Harrisburg’s 15-3 demolition of Erie. The 20-y.o. shortstop doubled, tripled, and homered twice while drawing a walk and driving in four runs. The trio of Jake Noll, Dan Gamache, and Raudy Read were next in the hit column with three apiece as the Sens pounded out 20 total. Ceasr Vargas got the win with five innings of two-run ball on six hits and four walks while striking out seven.
Myrtle Beach 1 Potomac 0 (9 inn.) – GAME ONE
• Braymer 7IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 9K
• Condra-Bogan (L, 0-2) 2IP, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 0K
• Corredor 1-4
• Banks 1-3
Ben Braymer was perfect through six and had a no-hitter through seven, which should have been good enough for at least a “W.” Alas, the P-Nats bats were 0-for-11 with RISP and couldn’t deliver a single run. The Pelicans eventually broke up the Star Trek convention on the Pfitzner scoreboard with a run in the 9th for a 1-0 victory. Braymer struck out nine and walked one while throwing 97 pitches. The loss went to Jacob Condra-Bogan for letting in the free runner on a two-single in his second inning of work. Potomac had just two hits (singles by Aldrem Corredor and Nick Banks) and two walks (Rhett Wiseman and Telmito Agustin) and left on seven baserunners.
Potomac 1 Myrtle Beach 0 – GAME TWO
• Crownover 5IP, 5H, 0R, 2BB, 2K
• Fuentes (W, 3-1) 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Sundberg 2-3, R
• Corredor 1-2, BB
The second game was a repeat of the first through five and a half innings before Jack Sundberg bunted his way on with one out, took second on a infield groundout, and came around on Aldrem Corredor’s single to right for a 1-0 P-Nats win in the nightcap. That made a winner out of Steven Fuentes for two prefect innings in relief. Matthew Crownover got the start and went the first five frames with five hits and two walks allowed. Both pitchers struck out two. Roster moves: RHPs Jackson Tetreault and Brigham Hill promoted from Hagerstown; OF Nick Basto placed on the 7-Day DL.
Hagerstown – OFF DAY
With Auburn off for the NYPL All-Star game and an off day for Hagerstown, there’s no official word on who will replace Tetreault and Hill in the Suns rotation and/or corresponding moves involving the Doubledays.
Auburn – ALL STAR BREAK
• A. Guillen 1IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 2K, WP
• D. Smith 1IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• Marinconz 1-2
• Rhinesmith 0-0, BB
• Pineda 0-1
• O’Connor 0-2
All six Doubledays got in to the NYPL All-Star game, which was won by the South, 7-1.
GCL Mets 8 GCL Nationals 4
• Irvin 2IP, 2H, R, ER, 0BB, 3K
• P. Gonzalez 4IP, 2H, R, ER, 0BB, 5K
• F. Perez (BS, 2; L, 2-2) ⅓ IP, 4H, 6R, 4ER, BB, 0K, 0HR
• W. Perez 2-3, R, RBI
• Vega 2-3, BB, RBI
This time Fray Perez was over his head as the G-Mets cut his cable car with six runs in the 9th to turn a 4-2 deficit into an 8-4 victory over the G-Nats. Jake Irvin got the look-see start with a run on two hits over the first two innings. Pedro Gonzalez, who was pounded in his first two GCL appearances, struck out five over four innings for his second straight one-run outing. Wilmer Perez and Onix Vega both went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the G-Nats offense.
Got Tetreault correct, but think Lee is probably more deserving than Hill. Oh well.
Can Kieboom count the walk he took as a de facto single? Either way, what a game! Kieboom’s OPS increased by .075 overnight!
Also, what a game for Braymer. A no hitter through 7. He’s rather surprisingly turned into a potentially very good prospect for an 18th rounder.
Luke, if the Nats were not fascinated with seeing what mileage they can get out of “used cars” ( arms from outside the org . Who can give them surprising IP and mileage – Vargas, Long . Dragmire and others ) Braymer might be bumped up to Harrisburg.
Can we still call Dan Gamache an org guy or something more?
Phonetically how does one pronounce the name Gamache??
Guh-mawsh and he’s a useful MLFA. By definition an O.G. should spend several seasons bouncing around full-season ball (think Josh Johnson) if he wasn’t drafted by the organization.
Sell, sell, sell the big club – get prospects for some of the real value players, and there are many – Gio, Murphy, Harper. Let the promotions begin, let’s get a look at McGowin in September after a couple of more starts, and make some room for Austen Williams as well, give Suero more high lev, let’s see what we have.
There are some players in the upper minors.
And there is coming depth in the lower minors. To see Hill, Tetrault, Johnston, Crowe all moving upward as starting pitchers from the 2017 draft is encouraging, and there is still hope for Romero.
The system has had a number of surprises, the biggest of whom has to be McGowin but not to overlook Braymer, a hope in a desert of left-handed starters. Here’s hoping he sees Harrisburg soon.
Wow, Tetreault and Hill up means a full Potomac Rotation is about to get shaken up completely.
– Johnston: only 6 starts, solid, probably stays put
– Baez: been there all season, too many walks to merit a promotion, probably stays put
– Braymer: great results so far in High-A, just threw a no-hitter … probably not ready for a promotion so stays put
That leaves Raquet, who has struggled mightily since his promotion, and Crownover, who had a nice start yesterday but has a 5+ era in his third season in a row in Potomac probably getting moved to the pen.
Reading the free agency article in Sun this AM, I raise the subject of an arm here or there being the difference between Phillies in first and Nats in third?
Jake Arrieta could be the 8 game difference along with a shrewd reliever like Brett Cecil landing in STL not home area D.C. ?
Gil, cue the Chorus Line music because the audition line is cranking up again.
We will take 8 runs in STL tonight vs 8 in GCL. Lol
The usual suspects raking in DSL this morning
Could you imagine that cardinals lineup with the stud DR outfielder who passed away several winters ago in DR??
Nice write up in Wash Times on AAron Barrett, who would be a welcome presence in Nats Hey 19 ( steely dan ) bullpen at some point if he overcomes all the obstacles.
Stifled by a young Cards pitcher last night. Helly deserved better.
Time to start thinking about Sept 1 callups and grissoms vaunted ” audition” mas phrase
