Pawtucket 4 Syracuse 0

• Ward 1-2, BB
• Marmolejos 0-4, 2K

Hartford 3 Harrisburg 2 (10 inn.)
• Mapes 5⅔ IP, 5H, 1R, 0ER, BB, 4K
• Pena (L, 0-1) 1IP, 1H, 2R, 1ER, BB, 0K, HR
• Read 2-5, 2B, RBI
• Collier 1-3, 2B, BB

Ronald Pena issued a leadoff HR in the top of the 10th to give Hartford a 3-1 lead and Harrisburg could only get one back in the bottom of the 10th on a Raudy Read RBI double to lose, 3-2. Tyler Mapes bounced back from his last outing to pitch into the 6th and give up an unearned run on five hits and a walk while striking out three. He was on the hook for the loss until Jake Noll doubled in Dan Gamache to tie things at 1-1 after six full. After Bryan Harper got the last out of the 6th, James Bourque and Austen Williams built a bridge to extras with three scoreless innings of relief. Hunter Jones was stranded at 3rd after a one-out triple in the 7th and Taylor Gushue’s one-out pinch-hit single went to waste when Jones couldn’t lay one down to give Alec Keller a chance to drive in Gushue to win it in the 9th.

Potomac 9 Frederick 5
• Braymer (W, 4-3) 6IP, 9H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, 5K
• Fuentes (SV, 1) 1⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Reetz 3-3, R, 2B, HBP
• Banks 2-4, 2-2B, 3RBI
• Mejia 2-5, R, 2B, RBI

One big inning was enough to carry the P-Nats Last Night in Woodbridge. Roster moves: IF Luis Garcia placed on the 3-Day TIL (Futures Game); C Matt Reistetter reassigned from Harrisburg; RHP Koda Glover assigned from Washington for MLB Rehab.

Kannapolis 10 Hagerstown 7
• M. Pena 4IP, 8H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, 3K
• Ja. Johnson (L, 0-1) 1⅔ IP, 4H, 6R, 6ER, 3BB, 1K, HR
• Canning 2-4, 2R, 2-2B, 2RBI
• Scudder 2-4, R, 2-2B, RBI
• Choruby 2-4, 2RBI

Hagerstown built leads of 5-0 and 7-3 before Kannapolis went to town on the bullpen for seven unanswered runs and a 10-7 win in the series opener. Malvin Pena got the start and went to the showers after just four innings as the Intimidators got to him for three runs on eight hits. He walked none and fanned three. The loss went Jared Johnson who was run into the wall for six runs on four hits and three walks over an inning and 2/3rds. Gage Canning and Jake Scudder both doubled twice while Nick Choruby singled twice; the trio combined for three runs and five RBI to lead the Suns offense.

Aberdeen 8 Auburn 4
• Cate (L, 1-1) 3⅓ IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 2K
• N. Ramirez 1⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• Rhinesmith 2-4, R
• Shaddy 1-3, R, 2B

The Doubledays were doubled up by the Ironbirds in both hits (14-7) and runs, 8-4. Tim Cate pitched into the 4th for the first time but was dinged for two runs on five hits over three and a a 1/3rd innings. He walked none and struck out two. Jacob Rhinesmith singled twice and scored once, as did Carson Shaddy who doubled in three trips to the plate to lead the Auburn offense.

GCL Nationals – OFF DAY
The G-Nats got a much-needed day off after losing five games last week. They’ll host the Mets today, the Marlins on Wednesday, the Cardinals on Saturday with a visit to Jupiter on Tuesday and an off day on Thursday. Tuesday is an away game at their home park in West Palm Beach against the Astros.

DSL UPDATE
Like the G-Nats, the D-Nats have lost five straight – including a pair of shutout losses on Wednesday – to sink into 4th place in the DSL South, six games off the pace. This is week it’s home-and-home series against divisional foes Yankees, Rockies, and Twins.

In Harrisburg last night, they had the tying and winning runs on 2nd and 1st in the bottom of the 10th. With the crowd cheering in anticipation of a walk-off win, Raudy Read was promptly picked off 2nd.

Ah, man I missed that… though in his “defense,” he probably knew it would take a double or a single with a bobble to score.

What my eyes caught in the Potomac game strictly within
The game play notes was Keister
        Ordering a Jack Sundberg suicide
Squeeze with runners on 2 nd and 3 rd. Nice to see Wiseman get number 17.
All star break breather. Wait and see 3. What happens with Rizzo trades , which players heal and get back to full game effort in the second half grind and which players flip the switch and put the mojo into overdrive.
The Phillies have the Eagles SB win as motivation while the Nats have the Caps.

Sounds like Read is ready to be called up. The big club can always use another guy who can lose games for them in creative ways.

LuCroy has taxed his bullpen to the point of throwing Jake Lowry into a tie game Sunday ??

Sunday question. Harper resigning or not a winter question. If the right trade offer
Cane up involving Brian Goodwin , then shall we see Y. Hernandez come up and play as a spare wheel ?!

Daniel Johnson sighting in GCL today.

Also Robles continues to be Robles in gcl. .579 obp thus far there.

.579 is great but its GCL. Barely above High School or Junior College.

      Will this comment bring Grissom
Out of his lab ? Lol
DJ rehabbing @ GCL then eventually
      In auburn behind Augustin ??
Whichever guy gets back to Potomac
Should help pushing Wiseman and his 18 HRs to City Isle. Keister can use Sagdal , Banks and whoever first to POT (DJ or Augustin ) along with the still hot Corredor . Maybe even Canning gets a surprise bump being replaced in Hags by Rhinesmith.
The conga Chorus Line slowly continues.
No expectations. Just speculating with my dog on my lap. Sunday joy

Retract Canning suggestion. If only Esthay was hitting .260-.275

        1. Jeff says:
          July 16, 2018 at 6:13 am

Yes. Agree on this Luke ? waiting
On Scudder or Esthay to improve
average and OPS before bumping up one to fill Wiseman spot on Potomac unless there is a rehabber such as DJ . Augustin is dealing with such a slow healing hand (?) unless Keister would be happy with scrappy Choruby . Too bad Gil,s guy Pryor wouldn’t pull a “VandeWal ” and hop scotch up.

No coincidence that Rizzo gesturing towards Marlins again in press about Realmuto
            After Buffalo lands on DL.
Better to have Nathan E from Rays than face him several times in second half as a Brave
And allow Roark to work his kinks out in bullpen

So I don’t know what the Nats plan if for Luis Robles but whatever they think the next step is, I’d say he’s ready for it.

Once again, not sure how many homers Wiseman needs to hit to get to AA but 18, which he now has, would seem to be pretty close to that total.

Yadiel Hernandez continues to intrigue. 15 homers (8 at AAA) and hitting .293 (.282 at AAA) on the season. He’s already 30 so if the Nats are gonna act on him, they should do it soon. But if they become sellers later this month, hopefully Hernandez is one of the beneficiaries of the trickle-down.

Don’t know what’s happened to MiLB boxscores, but the “scores” pages on their website are blonk, and not showing yesterday’s games….

    Any links to the boxscores?

I’ve been having trouble with them, too. It doesn’t help that the pages are so weighted down with ads that all it takes is one server to break…
