DSL Update
The D-Nats put in another .500 week (3-3) but are still only three games off the pace in the DSL South. The trio of Pedro Gonzalez (17), Carlos Romero (18), and Bryan Pena (18) are separating themselves from the sextet of starters with a combined record of 5-1 and a combined ERA of 0.95. Likewise, the threesome of Braian Fernandez (19), Geraldi Diaz (17), and Jorge Hurtado are a cut above the rest of the hitters with OPS’s of .999, .963, and .924 respectively.
In the 1800s they might have named a reel after Teel??
Another lefty
Bryan Pena used to be a catcher ?
Wow Luke, you got to see the Suns field an OF hitting .091 (Ortiz)/.202 (Upshaw)/.183 (Esthay). I don’t see much standing in the way of rapid promotions for Canning and Rhinesmith.
More importantly, what are your scouting reports on Garcia and Antuna?
And most importantly, who is “taller”: Freeman or Renda? (I didn’t understand the Freeman pick, all the more so when they gave him full slot money.)
Role model. Speed
Renda, but Freeman is definitely faster. Garcia and Antuna looked great at the plate. The errors just may be something they’ll have to get out of their system. I do think it would be a mistake to move them up this season. Let them get acclimated to full-season ball under as little pressure as possible. Not a lot of ground balls so it’s hard to judge Antuna from just one game.
Indeed. Wasnt commenting on Renda who is ancient history
Nice K on tough out Hoskins
In 12th
Good scoop on Garcia and Antuna. Antuna had another good game today (Sunday), so maybe he’s starting to figure out some things. I think you’re probably right that they should stay at Hagerstown the whole season, particularly considering their fielding issues. I do hope that Freeman has been a good INF mentor for them. On TV at LSU, Freeman certainly had a passion for the game. I’m not questioning that. I’ve just never been sure that his ceiling was particularly high.
(But shorter than Renda? I had Renda pegged to be only about 5’6″. But hey, he’ll always be a “major leaguer.”)
Garcia is a left-handed bat purportedly with more speed than Turner. Seems like he’d be rushed a bit to replace Murphy as that would be an almost perfect fit. But Luke is right, someone needs to teach these guys to bunt, hit-and-run. Where’s Alex Cora when you need him? Oh wait … he’s a manager now … why couldn’t the Nats hire him to manage?
Ronald Pena. Performing well in AA, after hacing performed very well in Potomac.

Never a name I’ve paid any attention to. He’s struggled to achieve a K/BB ratio of any better than 1:1 until last season – but this season, has significantly improved in this regard.
Any scouting reports? Is this another arm that’s potentially figured out his command, which is allowing natural talent to show though?
More or less. Pena was given a LOT of chances to succeed as a starter but, like Austen Williams, it appears he’s better suited to relief.
saw Pena at Harrisburg last night. was throwing 94-96 according to the scoreboard
