Sterling Sharp lived up to his surname while the Senators had the Fisher Cats pitchers counting their teeth at Delta Dental Stadium with 18 hits and four homers in a 12-1 demolition. Sharp let in the lone New Hampshire run on three hits and two walks while striking out six. He needed just 99 pitches to get through seven innings and earn his second AA win. Jordan Mills and Derek Self both followed with a donut to close out the game. Taylor Gushue was the beer man as the only starter not to get a hit while Jake Noll, Osvaldo Abreu, Raudy Read, and Zach Collier hit home runs. Seven batters had multiple hits, with Abreu, Read, and Alec Keller each collecting three.
Potomac vs. Myrtle Beach – PPD
The plug was pulled on the game about 2½ hours before first pitch due to inclement weather. They’ll try to make it up with a doubleheader on Saturday, August 4 when Myrtle Beach comes to Woodbridge for the final regular-season series on August 3-5.

The BlueClaws pitchers mistakenly thought they were working in the Suns ticket office as they gave out 11 free passes in a 14-2 Hagerstown win over Lakewood. Malvin Pena won for the second time in three Low-A starts, turning in a quality start of two runs on six hits and a walk while fanning six over six innings. Carlos Pena followed with two scoreless and Connor Zwetsch held the 12-run lead with a bagel in the 9th. Every Hagerstown batter had a hit, with Gage Canning leading the way with two singles while Alex Dunlap and Omar Meregildo both had a single and a double. Roster moves: IF Phil Caulfield reassigned from Hagerstown.

Three Auburn pitchers combined on a three-hit, 4-0 shutout of State College. Aaron Fletcher went the first three innings, giving up one hit and a walk, followed by Colin Morse’s 1-2-3 fourth. Angel Guillen finished with five innings pitched, two hits allowed, no walks, and four whiffs for his third win. Jacob Rhinesmith singled and tripled and scored two runs while there’s still no Daily double as Cole hit his 15th single to drive in two in the Doubledays three-run 7th. Roster move: OF Victor Robles reassigned from the GCL for MiLB Rehab.

The G-Nats took advantage of eight walks and two errors to score eight times on ten hits and double up the G-Mets, 8-4. Reid Schaller tossed three shutout frames with one hit and one walk. The win went Jake Irvin for pitching the two scoreless innings that followed. Meanwhile, the offense broke out for four in the 4th and three in the 6th to build an 8-0 lead that Fausto Segura and Carlos Cuello chiseled in half before Fray Perez put up a goose egg in the 9th. Justin Connell and Jesus Morales combined for four hits, three walks, and two runs scored to lead the G-Nats attack.
Friday was a good day for a number of 2018 draft picks: Canning, Rhinesmith, Fletcher, Schaller, Irvin, Daily, O’Connor, Morse. Time to push Schaller and Irwin on to Auburn and find out what they can really do. And time for Denaburg to actually get in a game!
Carter Kieboom checks in with two hits, but also two more K’s. Very nice outing by Sterling Sharp in the same game. I’m not wishing him to be traded, but it’s the time of year that he may have been seen by some scouts. Same for Rodriguez, who obviously didn’t impress. Since his return from the majors, he’s given up nine runs in 10 innings.
Despite the Syracuse result, that was a good game IMO for one reason: Koda Glover.
A healthy Glover makes for a much better bullpen for the Nats.
Robles moving up and staying productive makes me happy, too. Assuming there isn’t a massive turnaround by the parent club, he should start every game in center field after Sept. 1 for Washington. (And if they start trading away assets, perhaps sooner.)
