Louisville 11 Syracuse 1
• Voth (L, 4-6) 2⅔ IP, 9H, 9R, 7ER, BB, K, 0HR
• Marmolejos 2-4, K, E(1)
• Ward 1-4, 2K
Roster moves: C Matt Reistetter reassigned from Potomac.
New Hampshire 6 Harrisburg 3
• Mapes (L, 1-2) 6⅓ IP, 5H, 5R, 4ER, BB, 5K, WP
• Bacus 1⅔ IP, 3H, R, ER, 0BB, 2K, 1-1 IR-S
• Keller 3-4, R, 2B
• Gamache 2-4, 2B, RBI
Harrisburg led 3-0 after 2½ innings, but New Hampshire scored six unanswered run to double ’em up, 6-3. Tyler Mapes pitched into the 7th for the first time since returning to AA, but also let in the go-ahead runs. He finished with five runs allowed on five hits and a walk over six and a 1/3rd innings, striking out two, but losing for the second time for the Sens. Alec Keller singled twice, doubled once, and scored a run while Dan Gamache singled and doubled and drove in a run to lead the Harrisburg offense.
Potomac 6 Myrtle Beach 3
• Baez (W, 5-8) 5⅓ IP, 7H, 3R, 3ER, BB, 4K, HR, HBP
• McKinney (S, 2) 2IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Sagdal 2-4, 2R, BB, HR, 2RBI
• Wiseman 1-3, 2R, BB, HR, 3RBI, 2K
Joan Baez pitched into the 6th for second straight game and perhaps not coincidentally won again as the P-Nats outslugged the Pelicans, 6-3. The 23-y.o. Dominican gave up all three Myrtle Beach runs on seven hits and a walk (yes, just one) while fanning four to win his fifth game. Hayden Howard stranded a runner while finishing the 6th and added a bagel in the 7th for the hold. Jeremy McKinney worked around a leadoff single in the 8th and a one-out double in the 9th to earn his second save. Rhett Wiseman smacked his 19th HR to cap off a four-run 1st while Ian Sagdal put up big fly #3 in the 2nd to lead the P-Nats attack. Roster moves: OF Telmito Agustin reassigned from Auburn.
Lakewood 5 Hagerstown 1
• Tetreault (L, 3-8) 7IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 4BB, 4K
• German 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• Dunlap 1-2, R, 2B, 2BB
• Freeman 1-3, BB
• 14 batting K
Jackson Tetreault rebounded from getting lit by the Fireflies with seven innings of two-run ball but the Hagerstown offense was held to four hits in a 5-1 loss to Lakewood. Tetreault walked four, struck out four, and gave up five hits while losing his eighth game. The BlueClaws went to town on Frankie Bartow with three runs in the 8th to put the game away. Alex Dunlap and Armond Upshaw both doubled while Cole Freeman and Jake Scudder both singled to comprise the Suns hit column.
Auburn 7 Mahoning Valley 5
• Cate 4IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 4K
• Barrett (W, 1-0) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Smith (SV, 3) 2⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, BB, K, 1-0 IR-S
• Wilson 3-5, R, 3B, 2RBI
• Shaddy 1-3, R, 2BB
• Pineda 1-3, R, SF, RBI
The Doubledays avoided a sweep by the Scrappers with a 7-5 win in the series finale. Tim Cate went four innings for the first time as a pro but was dinged for two runs on four hits though he did strike out four. Aaron Barrett picked up the win in relief with a scoreless 5th. David Smith stranded a runner with two outs in the 7th and retired eight of nine batters faced to earn his third save. Cody Wilson went 3-for-5 with a triple, a run scored, and two RBI to lead the Auburn offense.
GCL Nationals – OFF DAY
Hopefully, the boys in West Palm Beach were celebrating National Raspberry Cake Day and not National Daquiri Day yesterday.
I hate to say this about anyone, but goodness, it’s hard not to fear that Voth has gone from “major-leaguer” to DFA candidate in five days.
Very good to see Agustin back at Potomac. He really struggled at Auburn, though, so he hasn’t gotten his mojo back yet.
Number 19 for Wiseman, the system-wide HR leader. They had hopes for power like this from him after 14 his last season at Vandy.
Time to start paying a little attention to the P-Nat ‘pen, particularly Jeremy McKinney and Hayden Howard. Across Hags and Potomoc, 31st-round pick McKinney has a 1.04 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, .176 avg against, and a blistering 12.2 K/9. He’s a comer. Howard has surrendered only 2 ER over his last 10 appearances, totaling 19.1 IP, with 18 Ks in that stretch.
Voth’s performance last night makes me wonder if despair over blowing his MLB debut affected him.
Just looked at Voth’s game logs and his starts are so volatile:
16 AAA starts in 2018:
In 9 of those starts he has given up 0 runs or 1 run. That’s really good. Doubt there are many starters with 9 outings holding the opponent to 1 or less runs.
OTOH, Voth has had 3 outings when he was pulled before the end of the third inning. In those starts, Voth has pitched a total of 4 2/3 IPs and given up 19 runs. Ouch babe. Total Jekyll and Hyde.
Often overlooked by Jacob Rhinesmith and Gage Canning, Pablo O’Connor is probably playing the best of any of our ’18 draft picks. He’s simply hammering the ball in Auburn. After a quick stint in GCL, through 11 games in Auburn, he’s hitting .349/.378/.628. 8 of his 15 hits have been for extra bases, and he’s only recorded 6 K in 43 AB.
If these Hagerstown OFs continue to struggle mightily, it might be worth a Hagerstown/Auburn shuffle.
O’Connor slashed .337/.455/.691 at Azusa Pacific this season, with 17 HRs, 13 doubles, and 36 walks in only 48 games. He was even better in ’17 as a soph: .392/.456/.755, with 19 HRs and 15 doubles in 53 games. As a frosh in ’16, he slashed .337/.392/.623, with 15 HRs and 12 doubles. So that’s 51 HRs in three college seasons! (Although yes, somewhat at elevation.)
Pablo O’Connor.
I love it. From the Spanish O’Connors, I assume? 😉
Maybe he is related to this guy.

Ha!
Entirely possible. Che Guevara had Irish ancestry through his father, Ernesto Guevara Lynch. He was a distant cousin of Thomas Lynch Jr., the youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence. And now you know…the rest of the story.
I’m starting to worry about Kieboom at AA. Not necessarily because he is not hitting anymore but because his k rate has spiked and walk rate is down at the level. Now it could just be adjustments against better pitching.
But this could be who he is. He got off to a good start at high-a early and then went into a black hole and was hitting under Mendoza. Then all of sudden he started striking out less and taking more walks, which led him to hit again at a very high level and evened out.
I think it’s fair to express concern, but perhaps not time yet to start worrying. At 20, he’s still one of the younger players at the AA level. Looks like his bad stretch has been the last seven games, broken up by the fanfare of the trip to the Futures Games. In his last seven for Harrisburg, Kieboom has struck out 11 times against three hits and two walks. His average has dropped 100 points over his last 10 games.
The AA pitchers have adjusted to him, now it is time for him to adjust back. It’s just another reminder that what we just saw with Soto was truly special. Mere mortal prospects have to trudge along in their wake.
All true.
Rhett Wiseman looks like Daniel Johnson last year. True breakout. He’s not toolsy like Johnson or speedy, but the power is evident, kinda like it was for Johnson last year.
Speaking of Johnson I wonder when gets all the way back if he is going to show that home run power. It seemed sapped at AA early this year.
Sapped BEFORE the hamate break, which really sapped Werth as I recall, so I wouldn’t except DJ’s to really return this year. Johnson was hitting a respectable .286/.354/.408 before the injury, 114 wRC+, so still acquitting himself well despite the power outage.
Is there something specific that Wiseman is *not* doing that would explain why he hasn’t been moved up to AA yet?
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Wiseman’s defense has been awful this season, but that’s never been an issue before (see: Ramos, Wilson; Moore, Tyler; Marrero, Chris).
So I think something is up with Victor Robles.
He didn’t play in the GCL Wednesday, they were off Thursday and he isn’t in the starting lineup today.
So either he’s had an injury setback or he’s being moved up from rookie ball rehab.
Saw something that said he was on his way to Auburn. Don’t know whether true or rumor.

Thanks for the updates, guy.
Phil “Don’t Call Me Holden” Caulfield gets the (social) promotion to Hagerstown to make room for Robles.
