Rochester 2 Syracuse 0
• Valdez (L, 2-3) 6IP, 5H, 2R, 1ER, 2BB, 3K
• Marmolejos 1-4, 2B
• Stevenson 1-4, SB
Roster move: RHP Cesar Vargas placed on the 7-Day DL.

Harrisburg 9 Bowie 4 – GAME ONE
• Darnell 4IP, 7H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 3K, HR
• Guillon (W, 1-0) 1⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, BB, K, WP
• Jones 2-3, R, 2B, BB, RBI
• Ward 1-2, R, 2BB, HR, 2RBI
• Walker 1-2, R, 2BB

The Senators put up crooked numbers in three of six “ups,” including a four-spot in the 6th to outslug the BaySox, 9-4. Logan Darnell went the first four innings and gave up a two-run HR and seven hits total without issuing a walk and setting down three on strikes. Ismael Guillon picked up the win with a scoreless inning and 2/3rds (one hit, walk, whiff) while Roman Mendez got the benefit of the last big inning for a save despite coughing up a two-run HR in the 7th. Hunter Jones, Adam Walker, and Drew Ward each reached base three times and scored a run to lead the Harrisburg offense.

Harrisburg 8 Bowie 6 – GAME TWO
• Williams 3IP, 3H, 2R, 1ER, BB, 4K
• Fleck (W, 3-3) 2⅔ IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 2K, HR
• Collier 2-3, 2R, 3B, HR, 3RBI
• Abreu 2-3, 2B, 3B, 2RBI
• Read 1-3, R, HR, 2RBI

In the “aftercap,” Harrisburg broke a 5-5 tie with a run in the 5th and got two insurance runs in the 6th to hold on for an 8-6 win and the doubleheader sweep. Austen Williams got the spot start and gave up two first-inning runs before leaving after three with three hits an one walk allowed and four K’s. Kaleb Fleck was credited with the win but pitched poorly while Bryan Harper stranded a runner in the 6th and let in a run in the 7th as he was credited with his fourth save. Raudy Read, Zach Collie, and Osvaldo Abreu combined to go 5-for-9 with a double (Abreu), two triples (Abreu, Collier), two homers (Collier, Read), and seven RBI to lead the Sens attack.

Potomac – ALL-STAR BREAK
The P-Nats begin the second half against the Blue Rocks with what should be a few new faces, as this is typically when the Nats shuffle the deck and bump up a couple of Suns and sometimes drop down a Senator or two.

Hagerstown – ALL-STAR BREAK
Hagerstown also gets the benefit of hitting the reset button but will probably get the backfills from Auburn versus any demotions from Potomac. Nevertheless, it’s still a chance to get out of seventh place and perhaps even get above .500 for the second half.

Williamsport 4 Auburn 0
• M. Pena 5IP, 6H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Bartow 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Tapani (L, 0-1) 1IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 1K
• Rhinesmith 2-4
• Pineda 1-3

The Crosscutters completed their sweep as they shut out the Doubledays, 2-0. Malvin Pena went the first five and gave up six hits, no walks, and no runs while striking out three. Frankie Bartow tossed two perfect innings in his pro debut, fanning two. Ryan Tapani didn’t do quite so well as Williamsport knocked him for both of its runs on three hits in his single inning pitched to hand him his first loss. Auburn was held to just six hits with Jacob Rhinesmith the sole batter to reach base twice with a pair of singles in four trips to the plate.

GCL Marlins 9 GCL Nationals 3
• Strom 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• F. Perez (L, 0-1) 1.1 IP, 1H, 2R, 0ER, 2BB, 3K
• Vickers 1-3, 2B, 2RBI
• O’Connor 1-3, 2B, BB

The G-Nats’ early 1-0 lead was erased by several crooked numbers as the G-Marlins handed them a 9-3 loss. Leif Strom, last year’s 21st Rd. pick, got the start and tossed two perfect innings with three whiffs. The loss went to Fray Perez, who came undone in the 5th with two unearned runs on a hit and two walks while fanning three. Tre Vickers drove in both runs while going 1-for-3 with a double, as did Pablo O’Connor, who also drew a walk. Roster moves: C Jose Cabello released; RHPs Tanner Driskill (9th Rd.), Alec Maley (32nd Rd.), and Bobby Milacki (38th Rd.; Do you have to ask? Fine. Yes, he’s the son of Bob) assigned from Washington.

Harrisburg moves…Stephen Perez released. Mapes, Keiboom, Keller and Noll added from Potomac. I’m sure there will be more moves soon across the system.

      1. Mark L says:
        June 21, 2018 at 10:08 am

Perez was dead man walking with his lack of hitting.
Best of luck to him in the future.

Wow. Glad the Nats are continuing their aggressive promotion of players with good production.

That opens a spot at SS, OF, 3B and SP in Potomac. Looks like we’ll see a few demotions or undeserved promotions to adapt.

Does Osvaldo Abreu get sent back to Potomac? Edwin Lora could shift back to SS.

Not much talent in Hagerstown in the OF. Guess it’s about time to push Banks. Could also demote someone like Norfork or Walker.

At 3B, Potomac has the depth to cover for the loss of Noll. Mejia, Lora, Master and Boggetto can all play there, so Noll’s loss solves playing time issues in that regard.

Then it’s gotta be Raquet who gets the bump from Hagerstown to Potomac.

Will be interested to see how it all shakes out.

        1. Luke Erickson says:

Banks, Raquet, Fuentes up from Suns. Agustin, Mejia off the DL. Crowe on the DL (procedural most likely).

Corresponding moves in Hagerstown not available yet.

Very cool Potomac lineup moving Sagdal to 3b to ease in Corredor
With free swinger Meijia leading off.
Maybe Anderson can move around the speedsters once Choruby settles in allowing Big Tuna to hit lower in lineup

Keister can get by with what he has now. Abreau stays in Burg because Noll can play some 1b vs lefties . Meijia Masters Lora and BB can move around the Keister musical chairs cadence

Good for NIC Choruby and O2 getting to Menorial Stadium.
NIC should lead off. Scudder to 1b
And O2 bouncing between LF, 1b and DH. If only Franco gets off DL to free up Omar M to float around diamond more

        2. Jeff says:
          June 21, 2018 at 6:51 pm

Could we see with a Sanchez promotion the experimentation.
Of Cole Freeman in CF to expand his worth ? Franco could play more 1b with Big Tuna to play some 3b. I would gas up my car more often to see Anderson ‘s rotations in play. Upshaw still would get ABs but other guys would grab some away especially if Pryor and Rhinesmith or Connell pushed .

Weston is post injury and so ripe for placement in summer weather for building back up innings.

I can’t see Reyes getting demoted. We’ll see.

    1. Jeff says:
      June 21, 2018 at 10:16 am

Another comment to stir the nest here: I have the same injury as Grizzly Adams but earlier in month.
Why don’t we see Marmelos up ??
Martinez could use another LH bat who can play RF better than Soto .
Why not retain Perez in coaching ranks ?
We have not heard the name Nick Banks up yet
An out of the box question : does brass consider ABs in XST less or equal to ABs with an affiliate ? Look at Jonathan Pryor and Nick Choruby
Who return to auburn AGAIN. Could they see Hags with less than 200 ABs @ auburn in two years plus 2018 XST action ?

    2. Will says:
      June 21, 2018 at 11:15 am

Borne is a mystery wrapped in an enigma.

I wonder if he’s got some more serious chronic injury? In 4 years in the minors, he’s pitched in a grand total of 3 games in April and 3 games in May (and not the same seasons, mind you) but by all accounts hasn’t had TJ.

      1. Jeff says:
        June 21, 2018 at 11:22 am

      2. Jeff says:

DSL angels have outfielders with first names Raider and Rainer , who has the size of an impressive kid already. Both lefty swingers .

  3. Will says:
    June 21, 2018 at 11:33 am

I have a new found appreciation for the Nats penchant for signing sons of former big leaguers.

    Current top 10 prospects:
    Vlad Guerrero Jr.
    Fernando Tatis Jr
    Bo Bichette
    Current top 100 prospects:
    Justus Sheffield
    Ke’Bryan Hayes
    Cavan Biggio
Nick Gordon (and his brother Dee, for that matter)
    Cal Quantrill

    Then other recent prospect graduates
    Cody Bellinger
    CJ Cron
    Delino DeShields Jr
    Jose Martinez
    Lance McCullers
    Travis Shaw

It’s a who’s who of 90s baseball stars. Now if we could get the Vlad Jrs and not the Mariano Jrs that would be a good place to start.

    1. Pilchard says:
      June 21, 2018 at 12:04 pm

Justus Sheffield is not related to Gary Sheffield.

    2. Luke Erickson says:

    4. Jeff says:

Cards have Chad Krueter son @ 3b vs Nats today in GCL. R/R. Six foot tall.
Are we sure Fernando Tatis son is not on DSLNats? Tovar related to Cesar?

  4. Forensicane says:
    June 21, 2018 at 1:17 pm

Congratulations to Jake Noll, already up to HBurg. Perez a Cane like me, but he had his shot.

Kieboom era begins and all will be abuzz for post-June. Excellent news. Mapes, Keller, are Ho-hums. If Mapes can master AA as he did in 2016, then we can talk. Crowe looks to still be on the move, and perhaps we will soon see Williamson somewhere.

Agustin back where he was on fire. His emerging power this year made him one of the best Nats prospects no one talks about. Another great find and hopefully his finger fully healed.

Banks and Raquet also as expected; Fuentes gets a shot but looks strictly OG.

Now, who goes up to Hagerstown? My guess is Channing. But Jonathan Pryor gave my boy his batting gloves, without his even asking, and signed them to boot. I’ll always pull for him.

How about Sanchez and Pineda!!! In about a month, we’ll be talking about them as the next “thing.”

    1. Jeff says:
      June 21, 2018 at 2:40 pm

Gil are you rooting for Frankie Cane on GCL?
Brass answers my question about how many ABs Choruby or Pryor needed after two partial summers to reach Anderson .
Always interesting to see which guys get A, B, C per game slot pitching positions . Right , Cane Gil

    2. Jeff says:
      June 21, 2018 at 2:58 pm

Mapes still looks like a 6-8 IP reliever Gil

    3. Jeff says:
      June 21, 2018 at 4:20 pm

Gil you like Pineda behind the plate ?? Jose Sanchez truly a guy to fill in on that expected Cole Freeman push to Potomac

      1. Forensicane says:
        June 21, 2018 at 8:55 pm

Sanchez will stay at SS until forced to accommodate another talent.

    4. Jeff says:
      June 22, 2018 at 5:07 am

Cane. There is so much season left
For Sanchez and Pineda to move up.
Pineda could DH against the Sally League LHPs
The more time Marmelos stays @ AAA means more time around Daubauch
Max teaching Fedde some slider tips .
A benefit of Hellickson time off.

  5. Forensicane says:
    June 21, 2018 at 1:25 pm

Corredor also a no brainer. Unlike Gutierrez, however, his power will not project to carry his position. So there’s your Estarlin!

I don’t think the promotions and heavy movement are done yet, but this is a heckuva fun start. Great that we are not waiting till the trading deadline this year. Let the youngsters get their deserved developmental challenge. Perhaps Sharp and Crowe will rise soon enough.

    1. Jeff says:
      June 21, 2018 at 2:42 pm

Yes Corredor an overall good teammate , hustler , not much power
But can play 1b than Grant DeBruin.
Wow I just released Mariano Rivera 3 retired.

    2. Jeff says:
      June 21, 2018 at 2:45 pm

Cane. We await over time what Mr Chisham does by next year this time for 1b depth behind Scudder or any Latin kids who are handed a 1 b glove
      Vs an OF glove.
Luke we hope a server has not been blown. My dog napping in this hot one 83F

      1. Forensicane says:
        June 21, 2018 at 8:54 pm

Scudder is one of a handful who have a lot of work to do if they do not want to be run over by the boatload of 2017 position talent coming from below. DSL lumber means 2019 flowers.

  6. Jeff says:

  8. Formerly Guest says:
    June 21, 2018 at 5:05 pm

Hypothetical I was thinking of while watching the CWS during the rain delay last night:

How would we feel about the Nats signing Oregon State’s controversial (to be polite) lefty Luke Heimlich?

On the one hand, it’s a chance to get a first-round talent LHP for what would likely be pretty cheap. The Nats are in the winning business not the sainthood business and he could help them win.

On the other… well, we know the other.

Is all the baggage he brings worth it?

Does an adult deserve a second shot for a mistake he made as a minor?

I have no answer here. I can see the case for both. But I’m curious what others think.

    1. Wally says:
      June 21, 2018 at 5:47 pm

That’s obviously a contentious issue for a lot of people. For me, I’d pass. I do believe in redemption and once you’ve paid for your crimes, for the opportunity to move on with your life. So I’m not saying that he should go to jail or otherwise be denied a job. But I don’t necessarily think that sentiment entitles a person who has committed these kinds of crimes to a career in professional sports/entertainment, which is very public, and attracts fans and followers, especially amongst kids. I just don’t think I could get comfortable with that.

I’m much more open minded to people like our knucklehead at Hags getting a second or third chance if their talent warrants it

    2. Guy Holly says:
      June 21, 2018 at 11:38 pm

      No is the answer.

  9. Forensicane says:
    June 21, 2018 at 8:51 pm

Forensic would tell brass an adjudicated sex offender who later says I pleaded guilty to appease family is disingenuous and bad prognostic sign (or dumb advice).

As for the fun stuff, Jeff, Sanchez will have to get his 100 AB plus at Auburn and show up. No rush for a guy merely reaching at 18yo.

As for the others, you have noted what they see in workouts by lineup. O’Connor batting cleanup. Mmkay.

Connell still at GCL a small mystery. Only played part of the game today. A quasi rehab assignment? Or did he get hurt….?

Keep an eye on Hernandez in GCL on the mound. First import from DSL mound to pick up being on fire without a hiccup that I can remember. Very much on my radar.

Pineda? I love young catchers with high caught stealing. And there he is, middle of the order…..

    1. Jeff says:
      June 22, 2018 at 5:14 am

We saw Alfonso H on mound. Yesterday flash his stuff
Sanchez joining the other two blue chip bonus babies only makes sense if Nats push Cole Freeman.
      Anybody pay for baseball America
Monthly to read their take on the Nats irons in the intl signing pool this summer period ??
