Syracuse – OFF DAY
Syracuse starts August deep in the I.L. North cellar, with a tragic number of seven. While they have a significant lead for the worst record in the International League, they’re ahead of Las Vegas on percentage points and a half-game ahead of New Orleans for the worst record in all of AAA. Roster move: C Pedro Severino optioned from Washington.
Harrisburg – OFF DAY
The Senators also find themselves looking up at the rest of the division and looking back on just the Fisher Cats for the worst record in the Eastern League. While reaching .500 would require a 1914 Braves-like finish of 26-8, fifth place is in reach (two games behind the Flying Squirrels) while they’re three games behind (ahead of?) the Birmingham Barons for the worst record in AA.
Potomac 5 Lynchburg 2
• Williams (W, 2-3) 6IP, 4H, R, ER, 3BB, 8K, WP
• Orlan (SV, 4) 3IP, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 4K
• Sundberg 2-2, R
• Sagdal 2-4, R, 2B, 2RBI
• Mejia 2-3, R, 2B
Potomac’s four-run 6th answered Lynchburg’s tally in the same frame as they took the opener, 5-2. Austen Williams and R.C. Orlan did precisely what AA-experienced pitchers are supposed to do: dominate. Williams threw six innings of one-run ball on four hits and three walks while striking out eight for the win. Orlan let in an unearned run over the final three innings while striking out four for the save. Jack Sundberg came off the bench to single twice while Ian Sagdal went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the P-Nats’ attack. Roster move: OF Michael Taylor assigned from Washington for MLB rehab.
Hickory 16 Hagerstown 4
• Howard (L, 4-1) 1⅔ IP, 7H, 9R, 0ER, BB, K, 0HR
• Agustin 3-5, R, 3B, 2RBI
• Corredor 2-5, RBI
The CrawDads missed two extra points but got two touchdowns in the 2nd as they eclipsed the Suns, 16-4. Hayden Howard took the loss as he was charged with nine unearned runs on seven hits and a walk over an inning and 2/3rds. Telmito Agustin singled twice, tripled once, and drove in two while Aldrem Corredor went 2-for-5 with an RBI to lead the Hagerstown hitters. Roster move: LHP Tyler Watson traded to the Minnesota Twins.
State College 9 Auburn 2
• Y. Ramirez (L, 2-3) 5⅔ IP, 10H, 4R, 3ER, 0BB, 1K
• A. Martinez 2-3, R, 2B, BB
• Esthay 2-5
State College rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of three-run innings as they demolished Auburn, 9-2. Yonathan Ramirez suffered the loss on four runs allowed on ten hits over five and 2/3rds innings. Andres Martinez walked, singled, and doubled while Kameron Esthay singled twice to pace the Doubledays offense.
GCL Nationals – OFF DAY
The G-Nats are riding a seven-game win streak and are atop the GCL East by three games over the G-Astros. Sunday’s suspended game will indeed be completed on Friday, as previously suggested.
