Indianapolis 2 Syracuse 0
• Fedde (L, 1-2) 7IP, 7H, 2R, 2ER, BB, 5K; 0-1, K, SAC

Erick Fedde pitched well enough to win, but neither of the Chiefs’ two hits were home runs as Syracuse dropped its sixth straight, 2-0. Roster move: Washington recalled C Pedro Severino.

Hartford 10 Harrisburg 9
• Voth 6IP, 9H, 5R, 4ER, 0BB, 4K, HR
• Robinson (BS, 2; L, 1-2) ⅔ IP, 3H, 4R, 2ER, 1BB, 0K, HBP
• Hernandez 3-5, R, 2B, BB
• Gamache 3-5, R, RBI
• Robles 2-5, R, 2B, 4RBI, E, OF assist at 1B

Harrisburg’s 9-6 lead was too small for Andrew Robinson, who retired just two of seven batters faced in the 9th to cough up four in the 9th and lose to Hartford, 10-9. The collapse offset a four-run rally in the 8th to take an 8-6 lead, which gave starter Austin Voth a no-decision. Voth allowed five runs on nine hits over six innings, but walked none and struck out four. Victor Robles drove in four with a two-run single in the 4th and two-run double in the 8th while Yadiel Hernandez and Dan Gamche each added three hits and scored a run to pace the Sens offense. Roster move: OF Michael Taylor removed from roster, rehab ended; recalled to Washington.

Potomac 9 Frederick 5
• Guilbeau (W, 4-3) 6IP, 6H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, 5K, 2WP
• Pena 1IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 0K
• Mejia 3-4, 2R
• Sundberg 2-4, R, BB, 2RBI, SB
• Gushue 2-5, 2R, HR, RBI

The P-Nats put up crooked numbers in three of four rallies and prevented a Keys sweep with a 9-5 win in the series finale. Taylor Guilbeau won for the fourth time with a quality start of three runs on six hits over six innings. He walked none and struck out five. Bryan Mejia led the 11-hit parade with three singles while Jack Sundberg reached base three times on two singles and a walk.

West Virginia 5 Hagerstown 2 – GAME ONE
• Bourque (L, 5-7) 5⅔ IP, 7H, 5R, 4ER, 3BB, 2K, HBP
• Bogucki 1⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 1K; 1-1 IR-S
• Corredor 1-2, 2B, BB
• Agustin 1-3, R, HR, RBI

Hagerstown fell behind 3-0 early and couldn’t catch West Virginia, which took the first game, 5-2. James Bourque allowed all five Power runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two over five and 2/3rds innings. A.J. Bogucki allowed an inherited runner to score while closing out the 6yh and pitched a clean 7th. Aldrem Corredor doubled and walked while Telmito Agustin hit his seventh Low-A homer to lead the Suns offense.

West Virginia 5 Hagerstown 3 – GAME TWO
• Braymer (L, 1-1) 5⅔ IP, 5H, 5R, 4ER, 2BB, 7K
• Barnett 1⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 0K, 3-2 IR-S
• Banks 1-2, R, HR, BB, 2RBI
• Agustin 1-2, BB, RBI, CS

The Power jumped out to a 3-0 lead again but Nick Banks’s two-run HR in the 2nd and Telmito Agustin’s RBI single in the 3rd tied at 3-3. Ben Braymer hit the wall in 6th and left with the bases loaded and two outs. He would suffer the loss when Jake Barnett let in deciding runs with a walk to the first batter he faced and a bunt single to the second batter before he retired the next four batters. The Suns got a one-out walk in both the 6th and 7th innings but the tying run never got on base as Aldrem Corredor grounded into a double play to end the 6th and Anderson Franco and Oliver Ortiz lined out and flew out to end the game.

Lowell 12 Auburn 3
• Romero (L, 0-1) 1IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, BB, 2K; 35-24 PIT-K
• Y. Ramirez 3IP, 2H, 0R, BB, 2K
• Esthay 2-4, R, SB
• Choruby 2-4, R

A six-run 5th sealed the deal for Lowell as they completed the three-game sweep of Auburn with a 12-3 win. Seth Romero’s modest five-inning scoreless inning streak ended when the Spinners smoked him for three runs on four hits and a walk in the 1st, which also resulted in his first professional loss. Yonathan Ramirez was the only effective Auburn reliever, tossing three scoreless to close out the game. Kameron Esthay, Nick Choruby, and Jeyner Baez each had two singles to account for six of the 11 hits by the Doubledays.

GCL Cardinals 10 GCL Nationals 4
• Galindez (L, 1-2) 4⅓ IP, 5H, 5R, 5ER, 4BB, 2K
• Ja. Peguero 2⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K, 2-0 IR-S
• L. Garcia 3-3, 3B, CS
• Antuna 3-4, RBI, CS, E(19)

The G-Nats’ slide goes to five with a 10-4 loss to the G-Cardinals. Nelson Galindez was lit up five runs on five hits and four walks over just four and a 1/3rd innings as he suffered his second loss. Jairon Peguero had a strong GCL debut with two runners stranded in the 7th and two more scoreless innings. Luis Garcia singled twice and tripled once while Yasel Antuna went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the G-Nats’ attack.

Stras at Potomac on the last Dollar Monday of the year! That’s right, general admission for only a buck, with hot dogs the same price. (Parking is $6.) The general admission seats are not bad; the bleachers start just after the dugouts on each side and extend down past the bullpens. They are indeed “bleachers,” though, with no seat backs.

At the last Dollar Monday, with no Stras, traffic turning into complex was becoming a bit of a mess by 6:30, just FYI. There was plenty of parking, but there was a slowdown/bottleneck with only two guys taking the money at the parking entrance.

With Harper out indefinitely, Yadiel Hernandez’s future in looking a lot brighter. Remember, Hernandez isn’t a regular prospect, or even a prospect at all. Development isn’t a consideration here. He was already a polished hitter three years ago, and was signed to contribute in the near-term, not the future, since he’s nearly 30 years old. Each additional month in the minors is a month of his prime lost.

With that said, our 40 man roster is already nearly stretched to full maximization. There’s no longer players without much future with the team, like Matt Skole and Jimmy Cordero, holding spots.

The next to get removed would seem to be Ryan Raburn. He’s been out for nearly a month now with scant details on his return. They could put him on the 60 day DL or just outright release him if his return isn’t looking imminent.

Aside from Hernandez, who might be my personal preference, Bautista is getting healthy at the right time. Marmolejos has cooled down, but still has some of the best power numbers in the upper minors. And Clint Robinson is still around… though he too would need to be added back to the 40 man.

For now, I’d hope Kendrick will get the majority of Harper’s playing time, with Taylor and Stevenson splitting time in CF.

Goodwin also tweaked a muscle in the first game yesterday and is day to day, but hopefully not bad enough to go to the DL. But yes, they’re getting thin in the OF. I haven’t heard a recent update on Raburn at all. Marmolejos is on the 40-man and has played some LF. I think he’ll definitely get a cup of coffee in Sept., if not before.

As for the 40-man, didn’t Gott have hernia surgery a couple of weeks ago? I would think he would be a prime candidate to move to the 60-day DL if they need to free a spot for someone.

What should we make of Dan Gamache? He’s been on fire since joining Harrisburg. The 6 HR he’s hit in 38 games are a career high for any previous season, so the power is a bit surprising, but he’s been pretty good. Across almost 200 games at AA, he sports a .290/.350/.425. Oddly, we’ve been using him mostly as a 1B, but previously began as a 2B, and shifted to 3B later in his career.

Maybe he’ll stick around next season, seeing as no position player is safe from injury in DC.

Little bit of a wake-up call for Seth Romero yesterday.

The good: he struck out the first batter and the last batter of his one inning. The bad: in between — 4 hits (one infield hit on a roller to Matt Skole — who won’t be winning a gold glove anytime soon), a walk and 3 runs given up.

So I guess we (I) can slow the Seth Romero roll a bit now. Sheesh.

    Hey Luke,

Excellent work… I don’t visit often enough or give you your “props” for your hard work.

Any word on Kelvin Gutierrez? Thanks!

Gutierrez came up lame a la Eaton, Kieboom, Harper on a grounder at 1st base. It’s not clear what he damaged, but he was carried off the field.

I haven’t heard or seen anything since, nor would I expect to because the Nats have a LONG history of being tight-lipped and/or disingenuous when it comes to injury in the minors.

I wish I could be more helpful but

Thanks. I have an almost finished scouting report on Gutierrez but was hoping for 1-2 more looks before publishing. #Bummer
