Syracuse 10 Louisville 6
If you look like this, then you’ve probably realized Syracuse won its third game in a row for the first time in nearly a month. Roster moves: OF Caleb Ramsey released, RHP Taylor Hill reassigned from Harrisburg.

Harrisburg vs. Portland – PPD
The first of three washouts begin in the capital city of Pennsylvania and forcing a doubleheader tonight for the Senators and Sea Dogs.

Potomac vs. Myrtle Beach – PPD
Like Harrisburg, the game was rained out in Woodbridge. Unlike Harrisburg, they’ll shift the doubleheader to Sunday as today’s game, like most with fireworks and the distribution of a hunk of plastic, cardboard, and styrofoam, is close to sold out anyways. Roster moves: RHP Joan Baez activated from the 7-Day DL; not official yet in terms of transactions, but for those not on the Twitters: LHP McKenzie Mills has been traded to Philadelphia.

Hagerstown vs. West Virginia – PPD
Finally, the rain claimed yet another game for the Suns (ninth thus far). They’ll shoot for two with a twi-night doubleheader late this afternoon in Hagerstown.

Auburn 3 West Virginia 2
• Tetreault 4IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 5K, WP
• Cousins (W, 1-1) 4IP, 3H, 0R, BB, 1K
• Pryor 2-6
• Esthay 3-6, 2B, RBI, SB

Auburn played yet another extra-inning game, but this time they came out on top, 3-2 with a walkoff in the 13th against West Virginia. Jackson Tetreault struck out five over four scoreless innings, with three hits and no walks allowed, in his first professional start. Jake Cousins got the win in relief as he blanked the Black Bears over the final four innings. Kameron Esthay delivered the game-winning run with a two-out double, his third hit of the night, which plated Branden Boggetto from first.

GCL Nationals 6 GCL Marlins 3
• Alastre (W, 2-0) 5IP, 3H, R, ER, 0BB, 7K, HR, WP
• De Los Santos (SV, 1) 1IP, 0H, 0R, BB, K
• C. Kieboom 2-2, 2B, 2RBI
• Falcon 2-4, R, 2-2B, 3RBI
• Blash 1-3, R, BB

Carter Kieboom emerged from witness protection played for the first time in eleven weeks with a single, double, and two RBI as the G-Nats took their sixth straight with a 6-3 win over the G-Marlins. Tomas Alastre got the win with one run allowed on a solo HR and three hits total over five innings. He walked none and fanned seven. Jose De Los Santos closed it out in the 9th for the save, his first of the season. Santo Falcon doubled twice and drove in three to lead the G-Nats offense. Roster moves: IF Carter Kieboom assigned from Hagerstown for MiLB rehab.

Before commenting on Fedde, please note the column heading 😉

I just saw somewhere that Soto had broken his Hamate bone, but it didn’t particularly seem reported as “news”. Was that awhile back? Does that keep him out for the rest of the year?

Was that before or during his brief rehab stint with the GCL Nats a couple of weeks ago? I hadn’t heard that.

July 8th is reportedly (per WaPo) when the injury occurred. What’s not clear is when he had the surgery, so the estimate of 4-6 weeks out isn’t terribly helpful.

Yep: Byron Kerr had it a few days ago, confirmed by Mark S, at the Nats front office. They are hoping he gets back in games mid August, apparently.

And farewell McKenzie Mills, after his one-rainout career as a P-Nat. Some are decrying his loss as an overpay. For me, it’s hard to say, as I never saw a scouting report on him. How hard does he throw? He was great this year at Hags, but he was bad his first couple of years, rising to half-decent last year. His earlier K/9 numbers before this year never indicated dominant stuff. None of the national prospect rankers have been too high on him, even this year (only moved up to #18 on MLB.com list).

We’ll see. It was fun to watch his emergence this year. We wish him well . . . but not too well since he’s with the Phils!

Plus I now see that the Nats “overpayed” in part to have the Phils eat most of Kendrick’s salary. Same reason they overpay at the deadline every year. Sigh.

I am not seeing the overpay. An 18th round unknown quantity and $187,000 for a known quantity. I would make that trade every time.

The team is up 13 games but still needed a guy like Howie to spell
      In OF and IF.
      Lefties coming up behind Mills
      Anyway
As I said to Tony in Hags Thursday
Night. One callup being 1.5 games behind first ? Just O2?

Nats slowly trimming some of the
AAA fodder. Giving Ramsey a chance to catch on somewhere

Welcome to auburn. Wil Crowe .
      Esthay sure is raking .
      Come on, Weston Davis

All in Nats ! Howie Howie.
His name fits in area with varied
    Coney dog accents
What a HR by Perkins on Thursday !
Franco truly has room to put on more muscle mass!!

Mills was an 18th round pick. They traded him for a former all-star.

If an 18th rounder becomes a proven Major League player, that’s a good pick. So, I think that makes this a good trade.

A month ago I wouldn’t have made this trade. But will all the injuries to Nats’ OFs (and Turner) this year, they needed help. Kendrick can play LF, 2B, 3B and 1st and is a solid hitter with occasional pop who has shown he can produce in the playoffs. For a team in Win Now Mode, he’s a good addition, especially for an 18th rounder.

    1. KW says:
      July 29, 2017 at 1:18 pm

Well put. My first thought when I saw news of the trade was “I guess they don’t want to end up with the last out of the season riding on Difo again.”

There are so many codes for players not playing. TIL, 60 or 10 day DL but this moniker on Luis Perdemo is funny : suspended ( hashtag / number symbol) of says . That’s more vague than Soto
        Injury time frame. Lol
