Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 2 Syracuse 1 – SUSP.
Syracuse was losing 2-1 when the rains came and halted play in the top of the 2nd. After a 50-minute delay, the game was suspended. They’ll try to finish and then play seven innings today for a de facto doubleheader.

Harrisburg 4 Reading 3 – GAME ONE
• Estevez 5IP, 10H, 3R, 3ER, BB, 2K
• Cordero (W, 2-2) 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Perez 2-2, R, 2B, BB, 2RBI
• Hernandez 2-3, 2R, HR, RBI

After spotting the Fightins a 3-0 lead after 4½ innings, the Sens got two in the 5th and two more in the 6th to take the opener, 4-3. Wirkin “For the Weekend” Estevez gave up the aforementioned three runs on ten hits and a walk over five innings for the no-decision. Jimmy Cordero struck out two over two perfect innings of relief to earn the win. Steven Perez singled, doubled, and walked while Yadiel Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a HR and two RBI to lead the Harrisburg offense.

Reading 4 Reading 1 – GAME TWO
• Self 3IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 3K
• Valdez (L, 0-2) 2IP, 3H, 3R, 2ER, 0BB, 3K, HR
• Abreu 2-3, R, 3B
• Marmolejos 1-3, BB, RBI

Harrisburg got a run in the 1st and then gave up four unanswered runs as Reading took the nightcap, 4-1. Derek Self made the sport start and put up three goose eggs before giving way to Phillips Valdez, who let in three runs on three hits over two innings to take the loss. Osvaldo Abreu singled, tripled, and scored a run while Jose “Orange” Marmolejos drove in Abreu with an RBI single and walked to pace the Senators offense.

Myrtle Beach 4 Potomac 3
• Borne (L, 3-3) 6IP, 9H, 4R, 3ER, 0BB, 4K
• R. Pena 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• Robles 1-3, R, 2B, BB, CS(7)
• Lora 1-3, R

The P-Nats were held to just three hits and a walk as the Pelicans doubled ’em up, 4-2. Grant Borne took the loss with all four Myrtle Beach runs allowed on nine hits. He walked none and struck out four. Ronald Pena and Tyler Skulina both turned in a scoreless innings of relief. Victor Robles was the sole Potomac batter to reach base twice with a double and a walk.

Hagerstown 9 Delmarva 0
• Sharp (W, 4-5) 6IP, 5H, 0R, BB, 6K
• Fuentes 2IP, 1H, 0R, BB, K
• Johnson 3-5, 2R, 2B, RBI, OF assist at 2B
• Neuse 2-4, 2R, HR, 2RBI, SB(10)
• Perkins 2-5, 2R, 2-2B, RBI

Three Hagerstown pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout of Delvmarva, 9-0. Sterling Sharp went the first six innings and allowed five hits and a walk while setting down six on strikes for his fourth win. Steven Fuentes and Phil Morse both worked around two baserunners but preserved the whitewash. Every starter had a least one hit in the 15-hit barrage, led by Dan Johnson with three hits and Sheldon Neuse with five total bases. Roster move: RHP Weston Davis assigned to the GCL for MiLB rehab.

Auburn – OFF DAY
Auburn is 3-5 after its first scheduled day off and looks for its second road win as the Doubledays play the Spikes for three in State College.

Luke, would it be possible to replace the Syracuse game summaries with the GCL Nats games?

There’s nothing interesting about Syracuse these days, and a ton of interesting prospects in the GCL. 5 batters who are highly regarded are 17 (or younger in Jose Sanchez’s case). With Soto and Kieboom injured, the GCL Nats have become the Nats’ most interesting affiliate.

Montero DFA’d today . . . after calling out Arrietta for not holding the runners. Then Anthony Rizzo apparently called out Montero. Happy times in the Wrigley family!

Well, if you guys can live with no pitching probables and the same publishing time, I can give it a try.

Also, it looks like Brigham Hill has signed for slot ($291,00). That leaves just Romero, Crowe and Freeman (who should sign soon for well under slot since his season ended yesterday).

I won’t be surprised to see Romero drag on until the deadline. Boras will definitely wait until the last minute to extract every single cent remaining of our pool.

Given Romero’s character and conditioning concerns, it wouldn’t bother me to see the Nats make a late push to sign some of those HSers they drafted rounds 37-39 or Darren Baker in round 27, then get another 1st round pick next year.

Will I tend to agree with you on that

I also hear that Eric Senior has signed, my favorite sleeper, a five-tool JUCO OF. What about Timmy Richards, the SS from Fullerton who hit two homers in the CWS? He’s a senior so I assume will sign. Bennett Sousa from UVA (34th round) will not sign and is returning for his senior year.

I should add that I don’t think they’ll sign any more of the HS kids, particularly Baker. If there’s any extra money after signing Romero and Crowe (neither of whom I think should get over-slot, but they’re Boras clients), I would think it would go to Montes de Oca the Killer Whale. (Klobosits, who pitched yesterday for the GCL Nats, is even bigger, though.)

Nice debut by “Baby Jesus” Luzardo – 4 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 1 R/ER, 7 Ks. The one run he allowed reached after striking out and then advanced to second on another wild pitch.

Luzardo (who is Peruvian-American) just adds to the sudden influx of Latin flavor the Nats now have in their minor league system.

While many of you disagree, here’s hoping Seth Romero adds to that.

Maybe Romero will be made into a cable movie someday ?

Boras and the Nats get deals done. Romero will sign. It may take until midnight on July 7 (the signing deadline), but it will get done.

Crowe signed for slot according to Chelsea Janes.

KW: Where did you hear that Senior signed? The link I had yesterday had several mistakes on it. I hope he has. He was very impressive physically. Hit and opposite field bomb with a wooden bat. He did not seem overly fast to me, but certainly not slow.

I am still hoping for Montes De Oca (Mountains of Geese?). Perhaps with money saved from Freeman and Romero.

Interesting that Antuna has been the SS in both games. I thought we would see a rotation. Perhaps we still will.

Senior signing confirmed! Awesome news. Now get Romero and Montes De Oca.
