Syracuse vs. Pawtucket – PPD
The rain that shortened Monday night’s contest postponed it on Tuesday. They’ll shoot to make it up with a doubleheader today.
Altoona 4 Harrisburg 3
• Simms (L, 2-4) 7IP, 5H, 4R, 4ER, 0BB, 3K, 3HR
• Brinley 2IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Keller 3-4
• Joseph 2-4, R, 2B, RBI
The Curve went deep three times in a 4-3 win over the Senators. John Simms was the victim (culprit?) as he gave up all four Altoona runs on the longball and five hits total over seven innings in his fourth loss. Ryan Brinley kept things close with two scoreless to finish the game. Alec Keller led the Harrisburg hit column with three singles while Neftali Soto and Corban Joseph both went 2-for-4. Roster move: OF Yadiel Hernandez activated from the 3-Day TIL.
Frederick 9 Potomac 8
• Sanburn 6IP, 9H, 5R, 5ER, BB, 4K, 2HR, WP
• Rivera (L, 0-2) 1⅓ IP, 5H, 4R, 4ER, BB, 2K
• Sundberg 4-4, R, 2B, BB, 2RBI
• Page 2-4, 2R, BB, HR, RBI, OF assist at 3B
• Lora 2-3, 2R, BB, SAC
Potomac could get ’em on (12H, 6BB) but couldn’t get ’em in (4-20 RISP) and couldn’t keep the Keys in the yard again as they dropped the series finale, 9-8 to Frederick. Nolan Sanburn got the start and was lit up for five runs on nine hits, including two homers over six innings. The loss went to Mariano Rivera III, who couldn’t hold an 8-5 lead and gave up the final four runs. Jack Sundberg reached base five times with three singles, a double, and a walk while Matt Page walked, singled, and homered to lead the Potomac offense. Roster move: C Matt Reistetter reassigned from Hagerstown, placed on the 7-Day DL.
Hagerstown – PPD
The field at the Grasshoppers’ ballpark still hadn’t recovered from heavy rains last week, forcing a postponement of last night’s game and moving tonight’s contest down the road to Burlington. There is no word on when they’ll make it up.
It’s interesting that the Nats keep signing these older guys like Sanburn to eat starts at Potomac rather than promoting some of the young starters from Hags. I guess they want to make sure that the young Suns are ready for the step up to the Carolina League.
Things aren’t looking good for Son of Sandman. He’s given up nine runs over his last four appearances. I’m sure the Nats won’t give up on him right away, but his results are already pretty disappointing for a 4th round pick. Good thing they scored on guys like Glover, Brinley, and Crownover on later picks.
Speaking of later picks, Sundberg is lobbying for some notice. He only has five extra-base hits, though, all doubles.
Is Robles banged up or did he just get a rest day yesterday?
Broadcast said it was just rest after a doubleheader.
Brian Goodwin is now about 5 days of service time away from “graduating” from prospect status. Just wondering who gets placed on the Top 30 prospects list in his stead. McKensie Mills is by far the most deserving. Why Skole is still on the list despite being about to turn 28 is a mystery.
I also just noticed that none of the “Big 3” from last year’s IFA class are playing in the DSL. I guess that means they will all be starting stateside, which should make the G-Nats very fun to follow this year. 🙂
Interesting that DSL has a Panamanian Lefty swinging OF
, Lefty swinging catcher plus
Diaz playing 1b and lead off guy
Nats gave mick Van to Chisox for raburn ???
My MASN column is now up:

Amazing that Hagerstown averages 900 a game and the 4 game series with the Tebows drew 22,000!
Speaking of which, the lint in my dryer needs cleaning.
Watching David Masters flash the leather two years ago was more exciting than laundry lint or an ex football player who is a much better role model than that ex SF 49er QB!
If you mean Kapernick than I’m not sure I agree about Tebow being a better role model. At least he has the courage to speak the truth.
Hey, if the Mets want to waste their time and attention this way instead of developing legitimate prospects, that’s fine with me!
Injuries and advancements have
Rebooted the Chiefs talent level to … yawn… poor Syracuse fans shelling out money .
Maybe the chiefs should occasionally take the cue from crash Davis in field of dreams where the water sprinklers are turned on to flood the field and get a day off ?? Lol!
You mean the Chiefs once had a talent level?
Lol
