Irving Falu’s solo shot to lead off the 7th stood up as the Chiefs’ bullpen didn’t blow it for a 2-1 win over the Bison, the third straight for Syracuse and the longest win streak since April. Only 21 more to go to reach .500! Jaron Long got the win with seven innings of one-run ball on five hits and one walk while fanning seven. Erick Fedde pitched a scoreless 8th for the hold, his first at AAA, while Austin Adams worked around a hit in the 9th for the save. Falu and Clint Robinson both went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Chiefs’ offense. Roster moves: UT Wilmer Difo recalled to Washington; OF Joey Butler placed on the 7-Day DL; IF Neftali Soto reassigned from Harrisburg.

Kyle McGowin was hammered for four homers and eight runs total as Portland took the series opener, 9-2 from Harrisburg. McGowin gave up 11 hits and two walks over five innings for his second AA loss of the season. Jimmy Cordero gave up the final run in his two innings of work while R.C. Orlan pitched a 1-2-3 eighth to finish up. Joe “Orange” Marmolejos had two singles and an RBI, Darian Sandford had one single and one double, and the rest of the lineup went 1-for-21 with five walks. Roster move: OF Isaac Ballou activated from 3-Day TIL.

Victor Robles was a single shy of the cycle, highlighting an otherwise disappointing outing for the P-Nats, who blew a 6-3 lead after seven innings to lose 11-6 to the Mudcats. Hector Silvestre started and went the first five, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven. Tyler Skulina, Ronald Pena, and Jorge Pantoja combined to cough up eight runs over the final two innings, with a blown save and a loss going to Pena. Robles drove in four, Taylor Gushue and Matt Page one each to lead the Potomac offense.

McKenzie Mills and Steven Fuentes combined on a four-hit Hagerstown shutout of Greensboro, 4-0. Mills put up seven goose eggs and allowed three hits as he won his eighth game while striking out eight. Fuentes gave up the fourth hit and completed the game with two scoreless innings. Daniel Johnson and Tres Barrera both went 3-for-4 and accounted for all four RBI, three by Johnson, who also hit his league-leading 14th HR.

Ben Braymer didn’t make it out of the fifth as the Scrappers got to him for three runs on five hits and four walks over four and 1/3rd innings. He struck out six and a hit batter. The loss went to Joe Baltrip, who gave up two over two and 2/3rds on four hits, including a home run. Chance Shepard doubled and homered to lead the Auburn offense.
