The Chiefs’ brief 2-0 lead went up in smoke along with Kyle Mcgowin as the RailRiders chugged past for a 10-2 win in the series opener. Scranton put up five in the 4th to erase the Syracuse lead and chase McGowin from the game after seven hits and three walks allowed in three and 2/3rds innings. He struck out four while losing for the second time in as many starts. The Chiefs managed just four hits and one walk on offense while fanning 11 times.

Jimmy Cordero escaped a bases-loaded, nobody-out jam created by Braulio Lara’s three walks to open the 8th as Harrisburg edged Hartford, 2-1. Jaron Long evened up his won-loss record at 3-3 with seven innings of one-run ball on a solo HR and three hits total. He walked two and struck out six. Wander Suero retired the side in order in the 9th for his third save. Mario Lisson homered while Osvaldo Abreu went 2-for-3 and an RBI to lead the Senators offense.
Lynchburg 6 Potomac 2

The P-Nats were sloppy early to fall behind 3-0 after two and couldn’t ever quite catch up in a 6-2 loss to Lynchburg. Joan Baez pitched into the 6th for this first time this season but still came up the losing pitcher with three runs allowed (one earned) on five hits and two walks over five and a 1/3rd innings. Taylor Gushue went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Rhett Wiseman left the yard with a solo HR to pace the Potomac attack.
Hagerstown vs. Hickory – PPD
Hagerstown continues miss the rain like a fat kid misses a cookie with its sixth postponement last night in Hickory. They’ll play the regularly scheduled game tonight and try for doubleheader tomorrow afternoon to make it up.
The phrase “dumpster fire” comes to mind when looking at Syracuse’s team stats right now. With a .233 team BA and a 5.58 team ERA, it’s a wonder they’ve got 9 wins.
Poor ol’ Clint Robinson is proving yet again that one dimensional sluggers usually decline pretty quickly after the age of 30. Lucky for him he got his two seasons of MLB service time in just before he hit the wall. You have to figure that whenever Orange is finally ready to return, Soto will get the bump to AAA to try and resuscitate Syracuse’s moribund offense.
