Syracuse vs. Toledo – PPD
Rain postponed yesterday afternoon’s game and will push up the start time for today’s from the evening to midday to beat the rain forecast for tonight. The Mud Hens do not come to town again until August, which is part of the impetus to get the games in. Roster moves: Ross up, Ross in; Joe recalled to DC, Greg reassigned from Harrisburg.
Harrisburg vs. Hartford – PPD
Rain also washed out the game last night in Hartford. It will be made up on a future Harrisburg visit. Tonight’s game is just one at the regularly scheduled time.
Potomac 6 Down East 2
• Silvestre (W, 2-0) 6IP, 5H, 0R, BB, 5K
• Wiseman 3-4, R
• Lora 2-4, R, HR, 4RBI
• Gutierrez 2-5, 2B
The P-Nats rapped out 16 hits as they plucked the Wood Ducks, 6-2 and took the series, 2-1. Hector Silvestre tossed six scoreless innings to earn his second win. He allowed one walk, five hits, and fanned five. Mariano Rivera got the rulebook save but was strafed for two runs on seven hits, including a solo HR, over the final three innings. Rhett Wiseman led the hit column with three singles while Edwin Lora drove in four with a three-run HR and an RBI single as every Potomac batter had a hit and six had two or more.
Hagerstown 2 Lakewood 1
• M. Mills (W, 2-1) 5IP, 1H, 0R, 3BB, 9K
• J. Mills (SV, 2) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Banks 2-3, R
• Johnson 1-2, BB, RBI, OF assist at HP
Led by McKenzie Mills, Hagerstown’s pitchers outdueled Lakewood for a 2-1 win in the game and the series and evened up the road trip at 3-3. McKenzie Mills fanned nine and walked three over five scoreless innings for this second win. Jordan Mills (no relation) pitched two scoreless to earn the save, his second. Nick Banks went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Dan Johnson walked, singled, drove in a run, and gunned down a runner at the plate to lead the offense (and defense).
McKenzie Mills has 22 Ks in 15 IP and a 0.93 WHIP. You’ll have to look real hard to find him on any “prospect” lists, though.
Not good that Robles is out again. Looks like it was a feel-good night for the rest of the hitters in Woodbridge, though, with everyone finding a hole at least once. I must admit that I haven’t paid too much attention to Lora, but he’s starting to demand some. Luke, how does he look in the field?

I like the Greg Ross to AAA move. I’d like to see what he can do up there. He’s now had three running years where he has either held his own or just dominated AA. Time to see if he’s an option further up. Woudl have also approved of a Jaron Long promotion up.
McKenzie Mills; yeah; definitely a sleeper. But a sleeper becuase he struggled so badly his first two pro seasons. If he keeps this up and continues his trend from short-A last year (3.71 ERA in 12 starts with a pretty good BAA of .218) he’ll get noticed and soon.
Mills was drafted out of HS (18th round), but showed major improvement last year, and while it’s early, looks to have further improved this year. Great frame (6-4) and a lefty. A lot to like.
As an 18th rounder, he was paid about $1.50 to sign and these later round guys don’t get a lot of chances to impress.
They must have liked something even when he was struggling to be so patient.
McK Mills signed for $150k, just a few multiples of $1.50
cue a Mills bros. song after Hagerstown last game!
Ross department store promotions in Cuse now with Greg Ross up?
