The reversion to the mean continues with a 7-4 Syracuse loss to Norfolk – the fourth straight since the six-game win streak ended. The Tide washed over A.J. Cole for seven runs on eight hits and three walks over four and 2/3rds to hand him his first loss of 2017. Dustin Antolin and Rafael Martin combined for three and a 1/3rd scoreless innings of relief, but they were bested by Norfolk’s bullpen, as they held the Chiefs scoreless for four. Rafael Bautista, Brian Goodwin, and Clint Robinson each had two hits in Syracuse’s ten-hit parade.

The Senators put up crooked numbers in the first two innings and got an insurance run late to edge the Curve, 6-5. Mark Blackmar gave up three runs in the first two innings but finished with four scoreless to notch a win and a quality start, through three of the eleven baserunners he put on were hit by pitch. Ryan Brinley worked around a single and a catcher’s interference in the 9th earn his third save. Andrew Stevenson singled twice, scored twice, walked, and doubled while Raudy Read drove in two while going 3-for-5 to lead the Harrisburg offense.

The wheels came off the bus in the middle innings in a 6-2 Salem win over Potomac. Joan Baez failed to go five innings for the fourth time in four starts. He was knocked from the box in the 5th and charged with all six Red Sox runs on three hits, five walks, and a hit batsman over four and 1/3rd innings. Taylor Gushue knocked in Ian Sagdal twice with a single in the 4th and sac fly in the 6th as the P-Nats managed eight hits but were just 1-for-11 with RISP.

For six innings, the Suns pitchers held the Legends scoreless. Or they may have just been taking a breather from the four, seven, and five runs they scored in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th innings as Lexington destroyed Hagerstown, 16-4. Carlos Pena took the brunt of the beating with 10 runs allowed on seven hits and three walks over two and 2/3rds innings for his first loss of the year. Daniel Johnson doubled, homered, drove in two, and scored twice to lead the Hagerstown batters.
