Corban Joseph’s second double of the game was hit hard enough to score Matt Skole from second as Syracuse rallied in the 9th to edge Rochester, 3-2 in the series opener. Jacob Turner got the start and somehow did not walk a batter in five innings. Instead he scattered nine hits and let in just two runs while striking out five. Neal Cotts (2IP), Dustin Antolin (1IP), and Joe Nathan (1IP) combined for four scoreless innings of relief, with the win going to Antolin and save going to Nathan [insert obligatory remark about how Nathan is Xth on all-time list of this specious stat here]. Rafael Bautista also had multiple hits as the Chiefs racked up more hits (9) than strikeouts (8).

The BaySox pitchers outdueled the Senators for 3-2 win on Friday night. Austen Williams gave up all three runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings as the losing pitcher. Jake Johansen followed with two perfect innings and Mark Blackmar set the side down in order in the 8th. The Harrisburg hitters got a solo HR from Neftali Soto in the 4th and a gift run in the sixth as the first Bowie error put Andrew Stevenson on and the second enabled him to score from first on Alec Keller’s single. Raudy Read notched the fourth and final Sens hit with two out in the 9th, which ended on a groundout to third base.

Juan Soto drove in the two runs with three hits, including his second HR, but Delmarva answered back seven times for a 7-2 win over Hagerstown. McKenzie Mills went the first five, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks. He hit two batters and struck out seven. The Suns not named Soto managed just four singles and no walks and were AWOL with RISP (0-for-8, five LOB).
