Syracuse 8 Toledo 1
• Voth (W, 7-7) 6IP, 3H, R, ER, 2BB, 5K
• Glover (SV, 2) 1⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, 3-0 IR-S
• Collier 2-4, R, 3B, BB, RBI
• Zimmerman 2-4, 2R, BB, HR, 2RBI
• Lobaton 2-4, BB

Every Syracuse batter got a hit (wait, what?) as the Chiefs plucked the Mud Hens, 8-1 in the series opener. Well, it helped that Ryan Zimmerman and Jose Lobaton joined the lineup for a rehab assignment, and the two lived up to the hype with both going 2-for-4 with a walk and Zimmerman hitting a homer. Austin Voth evened up his won-loss record at 7-7 with six innings of one-run ball on three hits and two walks while striking out five. Ahead 5-1 at the time, Trevor Gott loaded up the bases in the 8th with two hits and a hit batsman. Koda Glover was called upon to get the final out of the inning, then worked the 9th for the save. Roster moves: 1B Ryan Zimmerman, C Jose Lobaton assigned from Washington for MLB rehab; RHP Andrew Robinson reassigned from Harrisburg.

Harrisburg – OFF DAY
The Senators resume their six-game homestand with three against the Seawolves, with Erick Fedde making his second AA start. Harrisburg trails Altoona 3½ games for first place in the E.L. West but leads Akron by 3 games in the wildcard race.

Wilmington 7 Potomac 3
• Whiting (L, 9-3) 3+ IP, 10H, 7R, 6ER, 0BB, 4K, HR, WP
• Thomas 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Mejia 3-4, 2B, RBI
• Read 2-4, 2R, 2B

Wilmington scored in each of the first four innings as they ran up a 7-0 lead and cruised to a 7-3 win over Potomac in the series opener. P-Nats starter Boone Whiting was lit up for all seven Blue Rocks runs on 10 hits over three-plus innings to lose for the third time at High-A. Bryan Mejia singled twice, doubled once, and drove in one while Raudy Read singled and doubled and scored two runs to lead the Potomac offense.

Hagerstown – OFF DAY
The Suns begin a six-game road trip through Georgia and Kentucky to take on the Rome Braves and the Lexington Legends for three games apiece. Hagerstown is on a three-game win streak that has seen them climb back into a tie for first place with Kannapolis for the 2nd half title in the Sally North. Roster moves: C Matt Reistetter, RHP Luis Reyes reassigned from Potomac; C Adderling Ruiz placed on the 7-Day DL; RHP Ronald Pena reassigned to the GCL for MiLB rehab.

Auburn – ALL STAR BREAK
Tonight is the All-Star game for the New York-Penn League, which will be held in Hudson Valley, where the three Auburn representatives (Tyler Watson, Nick Banks, and Weston Davis) will be joined by their Doubledays teammates tomorrow to play the Renegades. Roster moves: RHP Carlos Acevedo reassigned from Hagerstown; RHP Conner Porter reassigned from the GCL.

      Harrisburg wild card? They
Need another starter ? Williams ?
      Whiting ?
      PotomAc could receive Gilabeau
      Or an activated Lee??

Andrew Lee. Luke, any update on the injury (Nats elbow?) Also, what is the progress on Kylin Turnbull’s rehab? He is still around, but is aging like Estevez.

Congrats to Wilmer Difo, who just accumulated enough MLB service time and has “graduated.” MLB.com again just moved everyone up one notch, but at least added a very deserving Tyler Watson to the list at #30. Still no prospect love for “Orange,” however.

  4. forensicane says:
    August 16, 2016 at 1:07 pm

Severino should probably be graduating soon as well, no?

Mlb is slow and outdated and rates based on bonuses. How they can have Glover and Schrock as low as they do defies rational difference of opinion and is just, well, outdated. Rhett Wiseman? Seriously?

    1. Jeff says:

      Wiseman mechanics look like
      Walt Hriniak worked with him
While page stands more upright .
Gingrich must give Lee way to some

The rule is that a player needs to be on the 35-man roster for at least 45 days prior to the 9/1 roster expansion. I didn’t realize this, but Difo had already accumulated 30 days service time prior to 9/1 a year ago. Severino did not get called up until after 9/1, so even if he were not sent back down to make room for Lobaton he cannot accumulate enough 25-man roster time to graduate this year (nor will he likely get the required 130 ABs).

      1. Karl Kolchak says:
        August 16, 2016 at 3:56 pm

Oops, I meant 25-man roster, obviously.

MLB.com does not update prospect rankings based upon how organizational players are performing week to week. The rankings are likely based on the perception of how the Nats prospects rank heading into this season with some slight tweaks. Also, hate to break it to you, but most people aren’t losing sleep on who is the #30 rated prospect in an organization, particularly in the middle of a season. Organizational player rankings get less meaningful after the top 10.

MLB and Baseball America will issue new prospect rankings after the season which would be a more accurate evaluation of where each prospect ranks based upon the 2016 season. Safe to say that Max Shrock and Koda Glover will jump in everyone’s rankings. Also, Fedde’s stock is soaring too.

      1. forensicane says:
        August 16, 2016 at 6:34 pm

The mlb writeups (not just the stats) reflect rankings from mid-July data at the earliest. Watson’s entree was probably within the last week; they tweak things quietly during the year, especially as people get traded and such (like Gascan dela Santos, another mlb fave).

      2. Karl Kolchak says:
        August 16, 2016 at 7:04 pm

Did I say anyone was losing sleep on it? Merely an observation on a site that caters to people who do pay attention to this stuff.

With another 2 hit performance today, Juan Soto is now batting .333 with 4 hr’s for the season. Guess we know why they spent $1.7 million to sign him last year. Another great international find by Dipuglia and his staff. Won’t be long before he starts shooting up the top minor league prospects board if he hasn’t already.

Also today in the GCL, Carter Kieboom homered for the third time in five games. Clearly seems to be figuring out the wood bats and the older pitchers.

      1. forensicane says:
        August 16, 2016 at 5:54 pm

And to think, Kieboom was not drafted for his power. Hopefully not a David Masters-type oasis in a desert of slap hitting.

Who hit the only HR sunday
In hot FRED ?? Masters number 6.

    2. Roberto Rivera says:
      August 16, 2016 at 6:35 pm

This is hilarious! I logged onto the site to ask if anyone else was following Soto. Yeah, it’s the GCL but he’s 17 years old! He’s hit .375 in the past 10 games. After years of Latin American ineptitude or lack of effort, the Nationals are beginning to see some very exciting promise, Lopez, Robles, and now, perhaps, Soto.

Seems like brass will use every
Rehab arm , minor league free agent
Arm and stalled arm to fill the cracks into the playoffs
    Agree GIl ??

    1. forensicane says:
      August 16, 2016 at 5:57 pm

Not sure, Jeff. Lots of good arms have come and gone. It still feels like they are bringing in bandaids and discarding them when the prospects come back. Even Robinson’s promotion feels like a prelude to Glover’s return to DC – ie, a replacement player. And Whiting feels to me like a stopgap in case Silvestre doesn’t get back to Potomac, etc.

What I have not yet figured out is why Simms is in the bullpen while castoff (Allahu) Blakmar is starting in City Isle. Perhaps Mick Reinhard will show his face and give us some intel.

The Nats just re-upped with Hagerstown for another 2 years; whether that is good or bad I’ll leave to those more qualified.
    Too bad about Fredericksburg.

    1. Karl Kolchak says:
      August 16, 2016 at 7:09 pm

Good from a geographic standpoint. I don’t think it matters to the Nats how bad the attendance is just so long as the facilities are adequate. The players probably don’t care much for playing in an antiquated, mostly empty stadium however.

      1. Mark L says:
        August 16, 2016 at 7:33 pm

Remember taking my kids there from Frederick in the 70’s when it was a AA franchise. (!!)
