Trade two u’s for an “n” from August and you’ve got the angst that’s sure to come today to the Natmosphere as Lucas Giolito was less than stellar in a 4-2 Syracuse loss to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last night. The 22-y.o. labored through three and 2/3rds innings, giving up three runs on seven hits (one HR) and two walks. He threw 93 pitches and struck out six but lost his first AAA game. As usual, the point was moot since the Chiefs offense was once again like a eunuch in a brothel with just four hits and three walks. Matt den Dekker was the sole batter to reach base twice with a walk and a double. Roster moves: OF Brian Goodwin recalled to Washington; 1B Neftali Soto reassigned from Harrisburg.

The Thunder returned the favor from Friday as they shut out the Senators, 6-0 on Saturday. Tyler Mapes did his part with six innings of one-run ball, scattering eight hits and walking two and striking out two in his eighth loss. Trenton went to town on Robert Benincasa for two runs in the 7th to break it open, and put it away with three against Nick Lee in the 9th. Adrian Sanchez and Jose “Orange” Marmolejos both singled twice, but the rest of the lineup produced just three hits (all singles) and a walk and left on six baserunners. Roster move: (unofficial) RHP Erick Fedde promoted from Potomac.

Potomac jumped on Wilmington for five runs in the first, highlighted by Austin Davidson’s three-run homer as they beat Wilmington for the 17th time this season, 6-2. Matthew Crownover won for the third time in four starts with both Blue Rocks runs allowed on five hits and a walk over five innings while fanning a career-high of eight. Whit Mayberry tossed four scoreless on four days’ rest to earn the save (hint). Davidson and Max Schrock both went 2-for-4 with Schrock smacking a two-run double before running into the 1st inning’s first out trying to advance to third on a ball hit to short (that’s two baserunning mistakes in one play though). Unofficial roster move: RHP Erick Fedde promoted to Harrisburg.

The Blue Claws pinched the Suns, 4-2 to end Hagerstown’s four-game win streak and their own four-game slide. Pedro Avila was touched for a two-out solo HR in his fifth and final inning as he gave up four hits total, walked none, and struck out four in the no-decision. Jacob Howell took the loss as he was charged with three runs over an inning and a 1/3rd of relief. Hagerstown was limited to six hits, with Kelvin Gutierrez (two singles) and Randy Encarnacion (single, walk) the only two batters to reach base twice. Roster move: C Jorge Tillero assigned to the GCL for MiLB rehab.

Auburn beat Batavia for third time in as many meetings this season with a 5-1 decision on Saturday. Hector Silvestre made his first appearance north of Florida in nearly two years as he tossed four scoreless innings, scattering five hits and a walk while setting down three on strikes. Matt Pirro vultured the win with a single inning pitched after Auburn took a 3-1 lead in the 5th. The save went to Yonathan Ramirez with three scoreless innings to finish the game. Ryan Ripken and Nick Banks both reached base twice with two singles and a walk as the Doubledays collected nine hits total.

GCL Update
The G-Nats dropped two games behind the G-Cards in the GCL East with a 2-4 week. Today and Friday are off days while tomorrow and Thursday are home games as they continue to cycle between the Mets, Astros, Marlins, and Cardinals.

DSL Update
A 4-2 week improved the D-Nats to 24-30, which is roughly the pace they’ll need to keep over the next three weeks to finish .500 absent any rainouts. This week it’s games against the D-Angels, D-Braves, and D-Brewers, as they play out the string (tragic number 3 for the division, 7 for the wild card).
