Columbus 1 Syracuse 0
• Giolito (L, 1-2) 6IP, 3H, R, ER, BB, 5K, HR
• Gott 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• den Dekker 1-3, 2B
• Soto, Lozada 1-3

The good news is that Giolito reverted to form and pitched six strong innings. The bad news is that the Chiefs batters didn’t, collecting just four (4) hits in a 1-0 shutout by the Clippers. The 22-y.o. gave up the lone run on a solo shot with two outs, his third and final hit allowed over six innings. He walked one and struck out five in his second AAA loss. Trevor Gott made his fifth straight appearance without an earned run with two perfect frames to finish. Matt den Dekker was the sole Syracuse batter to reach second base with a two-out double in the 7th. Roster move: RHP Mat Latos returned from the GCL, activated from the 7-Day DL.

Binghamton 8 Harrisburg 4
• Brady 6IP, 6H, R, ER, 0BB, 4K, BK, HR
• Runion (BS, 1; L, 0-1) 1IP, 6H, 6R, 6ER, BB, K, 0HR
• Stevenson 3-4, 2R, 3B, SB
• Perez 1-3, 2B, BB

Harrisburg coughed up another six runs in a single inning to drop the opener to Binghamton, 7-3. Sam Runion threw in-game BP for those runs with six hits and a walk to “earn” the blown-save-loss. The implosion spoiled six innings by Mike Brady, who gave up one run on six hits with no walks and four whiffs. Andrew Stevenson went 3-for-4 with a triple and a stolen base while Stephen Perez walked and doubled to pace the Sens offense.

Frederick 8 Potomac 7 (13 inn.)
• Crownover 5+ IP, 9H, 6R, 6ER, BB, 2K, 3HR, WP
• Holland 3IP, 1H, 0R, BB, K
• Mendez (L, 2-4) 1IP, 2H, R, ER, 2BB, 0K, WP
• Read 5-7, 2R, 2B, 2HR, 3RBI
• Mejia 3-6, 2B, 2RBI
• Abreu 3-6, R, 2B, RBI

Raudy Read’s 9th-inning HR sent this one to extras where the Keys downed the P-Nats, 8-7 in 13 innings. The loss went to Gilberto Mendez as he failed to retire a single batter in the 13th, loading the bases on a single and two walks (one intentional) before giving up another single to send in the 8th Frederick run. Matthew Crownover was dinged for six runs on nine hits, including three homers, over five-plus innings for the no-decision. Read also homered in the 7th and had two singles and a total for a 5-for-7 night to lead the Potomac attack of 19 hits and two walks. Roster moves: OF Victor Robles returned from the GCL, activated from the 7-Day DL; C Matt Reistetter placed on the 7-Day DL; RHP J.D. Martin reassigned from Hagerstown; LHP Matthew Spann released.

Hagerstown 6 Asheville 2
• Baez 4⅔ IP, 3H, R, ER, 2BB, 5K
• Johansen (W, 3-1)3⅓ IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, 1-0 IR-S
• Noll 2-3, R, BB, 2RBI, SB
• Sundberg 2-4, R, RBI, SB
• Sagdal 2-4, 2B, RBI

Hagerstown put up crooked number in three separate innings to break a six-game losing streak as they tripled up Asheville, 6-2. Joan Baez got the start and was lifted with two outs in the 5th with one run let in on three hits and two walks while striking out five. Jake Johansen got the last out, stranding a runner, and pitched three more scoreless innings to earn his third win. The other Jake (Noll) went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run, and two RBI, followed Jack Sundberg and Ian Sagdal, who both went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Roster moves: LHP Hector Silvestre reassigned from Auburn to Potomac, activated from the 7-Day DL, transferred to Hagerstown.

Batavia 4 Auburn 2
• Ramirez (L, 3-2) 4IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 4K
• Held 1IP, 0H, 0R, 2K
• Banks 2-3, BB, RBI
• Johnson 2-3, CS

The Doubledays dropped their fifth straight with a 4-2 loss to the Muckdogs. Yonathan Ramirez lost for the second time as he gave up two runs on six hits and no walks over four innings while striking out four. Nick Banks walked once and singled twice and drove in one while Dan Johnson singled twice to lead the Auburn attack.

which lefty would you have released, then….?

Congratulations to Rey Lopez! Best prospect in the system right now (with Turner graduated), and fortunately at a level in which he can help.

Koda Glover seasoning very well, too. Robles picking up the pace…
