Buffalo 6 Syracuse 5
• Giolito 5IP, 5H, 5R, 4ER, 4BB, 5K, HR
• Glover (L, 1-1) 2IP, 3H, R, ER, 0BB, 2K
• Martinson 2-4, 2R, HR, 4RBI
• Skole 1-3, R, BB
• Goodwin 0-2, R, 2BB
A first-inning grand slam by Jason Martinson wasn’t enough for Lucas Giolito to work with in his second AAA start as Buffalo edged Syracuse, 6-5 in the series finale. Giolito was stampeded for five runs on five hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out five in the no-decision. The loss went to Koda Glover with a run on three hits over two innings. The Chiefs managed just five hits total and drew four walks with Martinson (HR, single), Matt Skole (single, walk) and Brian Goodwin (2BB) each reaching base twice in the loss. Roster moves: RHP Reynaldo Lopez optioned from Washington.
Hartford vs. Harrisburg – PPD
Rain postponed the finale of the Sens-Goats series in the Manchester not by the sea. It will be made up on August 26 when the two teams meet again in New Hampshire for five games now on August 25-28.
Potomac 2 Carolina 1
• Crownover (W, 2-4) 7IP, 4H, R, ER, 0BB, 4K
• Holland (SV, 2) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Lowery 1-2, 2BB
• Davidson 0-1, 2R, 3BB
Matthew Crownover turned in his best outing of the year as Potomac took the game, 2-1 and the series, 3-1 from Carolina. The 23-y.o. southpaw allowed the one run on four hits over a career-high seven innings. He walked none and struck out four while earning his second win. Neil Holland struck out three of seven batters faced over the final two frames to earn the save, his second for the year. Max “For Those About To” Schrock drove in Austin Davidson twice with a single in the 3rd and a groundout in the 7th as the P-Nats managed just seven hits but drew seven walks total.
Hickory 7 Hagerstown 5
• Rodriguez (L, 7-8) 4⅓ IP, 7H, 7R, 7ER, 4BB, 4K, HBP
• Borne 3⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 3K, HBP, 2-2 IR-S
• Gutierrez 2-3, 2R, BB, HR, RBI, SB
• Wiseman 2-4, 3B, 2RBI
• Reetz 1-4, R, HR, 2RBI
The Suns also jumped out to a 4-0 lead that was too small for Jefry Rodriguez to hold as the Crawdads took the series finale, 7-5. Rodriguez lost for the sixth time in seven starts, giving up all seven Hickory runs on seven hits and four walks over four and a 1/3rd innings. Grant Borne let in both inherited runners but otherwise held things down the rest of the way. Kelvin Gutierrez singled, walked, and homered while Rhett Wiseman tripled in two and Jakson Reetz drove in two during the four-run 1st to power the Hagerstown offense.
Staten Island 7 Auburn 0
• Dunning (L, 0-1) 3⅔ IP, 5H, 4R, 4ER, BB, 3K, WP
• Harmening 1⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 2BB, 0K, 1-1 IR-S
• Sundberg 1-4, OF assist at HP
• Kerian 1-4, 2B
Auburn was shut out on six hits by Staten Island’s Kolton Mahoney to lose the opener, 7-0. Doubleday starter Dane Dunning let in four runs on five hits and a walk over three and 2/3rds innings. He struck out three while suffering his first loss. Just two Auburn batters made it into scoring position: David Kerian with a leadoff double in the 2nd (and was stranded at third) and Nick Banks, who led off the 4th with a single and moved up on a groundout to the pitcher.
Interesting moves.
Turn the Page. Bob seger song cue it
Page to potomAc
Noll to Suns. Sagdal plays 1 b now
With Noll and LaBruna Infield
2b/3b.
That could have been David Kernien
If he was hitting …?
This is very significant and more dominoes are coming.
The Noll move confirms that he is the most advanced bat the Nats drafted this year. I had him at 41 on my top 50, only two spots behind Nick Banks. As I noted in my posted list last week, let’s see how things look at year’s end.
Page was long delayed in getting the bump up a level, and he can now start to catch up to where he should be developmentally. A nice reward for what he has thus far demonstrated this year. Other promotions on age/performance will hopefully soon include Orlan, Joey Harris, and Sundberg, other older performers doing well at their levels.
I HOPE this means Marmolejos is headed to Harrisburg (along with Fedde). And, that Page emerges at long last at A+.
At this point, I would think that Schrock is the MLPA for the Nats. It would be in the organization’s interest to get him a taste of AA. Perhaps Sagdal is another of those in line for a promotion if that happens, as a 23 year old showing lots of skills.
Robles continues to be dark, without explanation of “break.” Is he being held out until the trading deadline as a chip at risk? Really hoping the Nats bring in a huge bat to complement the speed game and as “Harper insurance.”
Very pleased with the Melancon trade, BTW. Rivero was a little too meltdown for me, and Hearn replaceable.
am hoping to catch Auburn tonight off the Staten Island Ferry. My boy and I will show up early and I will teach him the Nationals way 🙂
Cool. Grreat setting seen in video
There on SI.
Great player haul for yanx with trades
Yes Max is MLPOY.
Vacation in August. Page may pull me to phitz even with 95 traffic

14 time zones away fellow fans .
Hello from tokyo.
Sagdal should play 1 b until the next Grissom prophecy comes true .
A stretch for hagerstown ? Conner Sinonetti over ryan Ripken soon?
Fellow fans.
Can we now close the book on Rivero by asking : did Dusty burn him out as F.P. Called him : every day Felipe??
If I was Grant Bourne I would take
The Hearn trade as a big slap in the rump saying : go tear up the
A ball hitters ! Go getem Tiger!
If the Nats are promoting guys, really hope Grant Borne gets a bump. Same age as Hearn but with better numbers, including a 1.52 ERA and 1.00 WHIP his last 10 games, totaling 29.2 innings.
Nats have so few lefties of note and Borne has had a strong season. Move him up.
Byron Kerr just announced Page to Potomac, Marmolejos to Harrisburg. Mash well at City Isle, and congratulations, Orange!
