Matt den Dekker may be sweet to old ladies, but that didn’t stop him from hitting a granny to cap off a five-run 6th as the Chiefs broke a three-game losing streak with a 9-2 goring of the Bulls. Jaron Long got his first AAA win with seven innings of two-run ball on two hits and two walks while fanning seven. Caleb Ramsey also homered and singled twice while Matt Skole reached base four times with two singles and two walks to lead the Chiefs offense. Roster moves: OF Michael Taylor optioned from Washington; IF Jason Martinson placed on the 7-Day DL, retroactive to July 3.

While the game was effectively over, the Blue Rocks made sure of it with a seven-run 8th in a 12-1 obliteration of the P-Nats. Matthew Crownover started and lost for third time in six starts as Wilmington connected for five runs on six hits and two walks over four-plus innings. Victor Robles provided the lone Potomac run with an opposite-field HR golfed on the second pitch of the 1st. Max Schrock (note: one syllable) extended his hit streak to nine with a single and a double while stealing two bases. Potomac managed just five hits total and was 0-for-9 with RISP.

Joan Baez turned in a quality start of three runs allowed on six hits and two walks while striking out six, but lost for the sixth time. Taylor followed with a scoreless 7th but crashed and burned in the 8th as Kannapolis piled on four runs to put the game away. Edwin Lora singled, doubled, and drove in both runs to lead the Hagerstown hit column. Roster moves: RHP Jacob Howell reassigned from Auburn; RHP Robbie Dickey placed on 7-Day DL.

Auburn put up two-spots twice to double up Lowell, 4-2. Carlos Acevedo went the first five innings and let in a run on four hits and two walks but did not record a strikeout. The win went to Steven Fuentes, who walked none but was charged with three wild pitches, all of which contributed to the second Spinner run in the 6th. Dalton Dulin singled twice and scored a run while Luis Vilorio walked and singled to pace the Doubleday offense.
