The RedWings hit ’em early, hit ’em hard, and hit ’em late while the Chiefs did not as Rochester shut out Syracuse, 11-0. Paolo Espino threw in-game BP for six runs on ten hits and a walk over four innings and somehow struck out three to lose for the ninth time. Caleb Ramsey singled three times, Chris Bostick singled twice, and Matt Skole drew a walk. The rest of the lineup combined for two additional singles while Jason Martinson reached on an error to round out the nine runners left on base.

Drew Ward and Spencer Kieboom both homered in the middle innings to break a 3-3 tie as Harrisburg took its third straight and won for the 9th time in 10 games vs. Richmond, 6-3. Tyler Mapes “only” went six innings and allowed three runs on six hits and four walks, but rolled three double plays to win his organizational-leading 10th game. New guy Justin De Fratus tossed two scoreless for the hold while Andrew Robinson cordero’d around two walks in the 8th to earn the save. The Senators collected nine hits total and drew five walks, with Rafael Bautista, Kieboom, Ward, Wilmer Difo, and Shawn Pleffner each reaching base twice. Roster moves: LHP Nick Lee outrighted from Washington.

Potomac 6 Winston-Salem 2 – GAME ONE

Austen Williams scattered 11 hits over seven innings as the P-Nats took the opener, 6-2. Williams struck out three and walked none while finally earning a win for Potomac. Ryan Zimmerman smacked a three-run HR in the 1st while Bryan Mejia took one out in the 4th as Potomac made the most of its six hits three walks.

Potomac 3 Winston-Salem 2 – GAME TWO

Jose “Orange” Marmolejos sliced a single to center to walk off Potomac in the nightcap for a 3-2 victory and a doubleheader sweep. The 2015 Minor League Player of the Year also pealed one over the right field wall for his 11th HR of the year. Trey Lambert made the spot start and pitched into the 5th, giving up both Winston-Salem runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five. Neil Holland got the win in relief as he stranded a runner and allowed just one hit over the final two and 2/3rds innings.

Charleston 14 Hagerstown 10

The Suns got a field goal in the 4th and a touchdown in the 5th but it wasn’t enough to overcome an early 7-0 deficit as the RiverDogs won, 14-10. Pedro Avila might be showing signs of fatigue as the 19-y.o. had his worst start in his first long season with six runs charged to him on five hits and four walks over just an inning and 2/3rds. Everybody hit for Hagerstown (11 total) but all but one whiffed, too (12). Randy Encarnacion, the only Suns batter not to strike out, paced the offense with a single, a walk, and a home run while he stole his 15th base.

Auburn finally beat State College, 8-4. Yonathan Ramirez earned his third “W” with five innings of one-run ball on four hits and a walk while striking out three. Sam Held got the hold with three scoreless innings. Nick Banks was the beer man in the Doubledays’ 12-hit parade, which Jake Noll led with two singles, a double, and a sac fly, followed by Paul Panaccione, who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Roster moves: LHP Jonny Reid promoted from the GCL.

GCL Update
J.D. Martin was smoked like a cheap cigar on Friday to end a five-game win streak for the G-Nats, who still lead the GCL East by two games over the G-Cards. Seventeen-year-old Juan Soto has cooled off some (.195BA in last 10G), but still sports an .844 OPS in 20 games. Among the age-appropriate pitchers, Jonny Reid has gone 2-1` with a line of 1.72/3.15/0.70 in six appearances, totaling 15⅔ IP, which has earned him a bump up to the NYPL.

DSL Update
The D-Nats gave the D-Angels hell with an eight-run 9th yesterday to win for the second time last week, 12-9. Pitching remains the team’s strength, as they rank 11th in the 42-team league in runs allowed. Hitting? Well, there are two teams in the DSL who have scored fewer runs…
