Durham’s Justin Marks was on the mark (well, except one HBP) as he no-hit Syracuse for a 2-0 shutout. A.J. Cole took the loss despite a quality start with of two unearned Bulls runs on four hits and a walk while six. Brian Goodwin was hit by a pitch while Christopher Bostick and Matt den Dekker both walked once to account for three Chiefs baserunners. The Sens got back-to-back doubles from Rafael Bautista and Wilmer and a two-out single by Andrew Stevenson to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the 12th and held off the Curve’s last gasp for a 4-2 win in extras. Philips Valdez and strike zone remain estranged as the 24-y.o. walked six of 18 batters faced. He needed 90 pitches to get through three and 2/3rds innings with one run and two hits allowed. Wander Suero picked up the win in relief as he worked aroun four hits over two scoreless. Abel De Los Santos cordero’d his way through the 12th, giving up a one-out double and a two-out walk to earn his fifth save.

Potomac dug out of a 4-0 hole after four innings for a 5-4 win over Salem in the series opener. Whit Mayberry got the Jack Morris win with all four Red Sox runs let in on seven hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out two. Justin Thomas (2IP) and Gilberto Mendez (1IP) combined for three scoreless innings of relief to earn the hold an save, respectively. Alec Keller’s two-run single plated the tying and a go-ahead runs as he led the P-Nats hit column with a 2-for-4 night, with Jose “Orange” Marmolejos and Osvaldo Abreu also reaching base twice with a double and a walk apiece.

The Suns scored three times in the 6th to break a 5-5 tie as they took Game Two from the Drive, 8-5. Hagerstown starter Joan Baez was charged with all five Greenville runs on five hits and three walks over three and 2/3rds innings while fanning six. Grant Borne got the last out of the 4th and went three more frames to earn the win. Jake Johansen and Mick VanVossen each threw a scoreless inning to earn the hold and save. Randy Encarnacion singled, doubled twice, and drove in three to pace the Hagerstown offense, followed by Grant DeBruin, who doubled in two while going 2-for-5. Roster moves: IF-OF Cody Dent, RHP Luis Torres released.

Tres Barrera’s two-run shot with one out in the 7th capped a rally from a 5-2 deficit but West Virginia pushed across the game-winner in the 8th to take the game, 6-5 and complete the series sweep. Yonathan Ramirez started and gave up five runs on nine hits and three walks over four and a 1/3rd innings. Carlos Acevedo suffered the loss, his third, as he was charged with the final Black Bears run on four hits over three and 2/3rds innings. Sheldon Neuse singled three times, Barrera scored three times, and Jack Sundberg singled twice and walked once to the lead the Doubledays’ attack.
GCL Update
The G-Nats remain atop the Eastern Division despite a 3-3 week. The team is 3rd in the league in runs scored, 7th in runs allowed after three full weeks of the 2016 season.
