Randy Encarnacion’s two-run HR in the 7th broke up the Star Trek convention on the scoreboard while Clayton Brandt drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the third Auburn run.
Big season debut for Tyler Watson! Looks like the Nats really did their homework getting him out of high school. 🙂
Let the Watson hype begin! He’s a 6’5″ lefty who’s only 19. If he can make it to Hagerstown this year, the Nats will have two 19-year-old starters there, Watson and Avila. If I were a team talking trade with the Nats right now, I’d be paying a lot of attention to Watson . . .
. . . and to Fedde. Good to see him back, and solid if not overwhelming in his return. I’m still not completely sold on Baez, but at 21, he’s the same age as the new college draftees, so there’s plenty of time for him to cut down on the walks.
Not listed in Luke’s recap, but Glover put up another perfect inning at Harrisburg. He’s only allowed runs in one out of his last ten appearances. There’s buzz on some other sites about the possibility of the Nats bringing up Giolito or Lopez for a run in the bullpen, but I think those folks are sleeping on Glover, the true closer rocketing through the organization. He would seem to be the next guy up for the back end of the bullpen.
The only real negative on bringing up Glover this year is his relative lack of professional experience compared to the others. A team in the middle of a pennant chase can’t really afford to wait for him to make the adjustment as he had to do at Harrisburg. But he definitely looks like a potential future closer, possibly as early as next year.
If they choose to promote from within, my money is on Lopez. Rightly or wrongly, the huge bonus they paid to Giolito probably means they will be less wiling to take a chance by disrupting his role and routine.
I also think Voth will be a prime trade chip. He doesn’t have much left to prove in the minors, and could be of immediate help to another team.
I agree about Voth. He’s MLB-ready now, and the Nats have no place for him. When they go about clearing a spot in the rotation, it’s going to be for Giolito. The only downside to thinking about moving Voth sometime soon is that he’s the most ready safety net they have if one of the MLB starters goes down.
We’ll see. The Nats have a lot more depth from which to deal in their pitching than they do their everyday players.
Wednesday for Jeff @ auburn @ Aberdeen
Heading out door to DH on w – bridge
Luke you going or three dig night ??
Nice to see Baez and DeRosier turn in solid outings, hopefully they get some momentum out of it.
Sheldon Neuse has been added to Auburn’s roster according to the Citizen twitter @citizenddays so I guess he has signed. I hope they bat lives up to his name (Pronounced “Noisy”). Ha ha “Key-Boom” and “Noisy”.
Good news that he’s apparently signed, and even better that he’s already headed to Auburn. Did the announcement include what position he’s slated to play? I would guess that it’s not a conversion to catcher, which undoubtedly would have taken place in the GCL.
Both Rizzo and Kline said 3B for Neuse.
Something like a catcher conversion would happen in the instructional league, not now. Hand him a wooden bat and get him onto the field!
Granted the Potnats faced a cool customer in
Evan Leal tonight. Some of the guys are so
Pull conscience despite having huge holes
Open in the defensive shift. Comes to mind Dale
Carey with two on in game one and meijia
Who could Rod Carew trans to death if he
Changed his mindset
Baker is overworking Rivero to death
Does that mean that they’re holding Franco back at GCL so Neuse can play 3B at Auburn? Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Neuse signs for 900K, 207K below slot. Official tally is 540,800 extra with Dunning, Luzardo, Banks, and Harris to go. Plus approximately 381K they can go over without losing draft picks. So about 921,800 at the moment.
Unofficial estimate based on rumors and such would be about 688K with Dunning and Banks to go.
Luzardo is signed, for $1.4M, which was $764.2K over slot. I’m thinking Banks will want some over-slot money, but he’s given every indication that he’s signing.
The Luzardo signing is not official yet.
Likely more, but….
Simonetti (13) signed
Simonds (14) signed
Morse (16) signed
Braymer (18) signed
Howell (21) signed
Rishwain (23) signed
Boggetto (25) signed
