• Glover 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• den Dekker 2-4, R, 2B, RBI
• Turner 1-4, R, HR, 2RBI

A five-run 2nd capped off by two-run Trea Turner homerun sealed the deal early as the Chiefs took the series finale, 6-1 from the PawSox. Perhaps confused by the big lead, Austin Voth locked in and held Pawtucket to one run on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four while winning his fourth game. Matt den Dekker singled and doubled to lead the Syracuse offense, which maximized its efforts with six runs on five hits and four walks.

Harrisburg 5 Portland 2

• Robinson (H, 5) 3IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 3K

• Difo 3-5, 2R, 2-2B

Harrisburg scored in three of the first four innings to build a 4-0 lead and held on for 5-2 win over Portland. Phillips Valdez got his first AA win with a run (HR) allowed on hour hits and a walk while fanning three over five innings. Andrew Robinson turned in three innings of one-run relief to earn the hold while Abel De Los Santos pitched another scoreless 9th to get his second save in as many nights. Rafael Bautista singled twice while Wilmer Difo doubled twice and singled once to pace the Sens’ nine-hit, four-walk attack.
Roster moves: C Brian Jeroloman placed on the 3-Day TIL; C Nick Rickles reassigned from XST.

Potomac – PPD
Rain washed out yet another game for the P-Nats, but thanks to a second trip to Lynchburg in August, there’s no doubleheader tonight.

Hagerstown – PPD
It’s an extra day off for Hagerstown but they will play two tonight in Lexington.

Auburn 4 Aberdeen 0
• Watson (W, 1-0) 5IP, 3H, 0R, 2BB, 5K
• Peguero (H, 1) 3IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 5K
• Perkins 4-5, R, 3RBI, CS
• Kerian 1-3, R, BB

Three Doubledays pitchers combined on a six-hit, 13K shutout of the Ironbirds for a 4-0 win. Tyler Watson pitched five scoreless innings with three hits, two walks, and five K’s to earn his first win. Francys Peguero tossed three scoreless with five whiffs to get the hold while Angher Cespedes struck out the side on 19 pitches in the 9th to close out the game. Blake Perkins went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored followed by David Kerian with a walk and a single to lead the Auburn offense. Roster moves: OF Nick Banks (4th Rd. Pick ’16) assigned from Washington.

Let the Tyler Watson hype begin! He’s yet to give up a run in 23.1 innings as a pro, with 28 Ks in those frames.

Good to see Valdez have such a solid start at AA. I’m still not sure what to think of him, but he seems to be progressing after a fair amount of time treading water.

And a shout-out to Karl for sparking Trea Turner’s two-day resurgence!

Is it right that it bugs me that they’re using Glover for two innings? They did that some at Harrisburg as well; I think he may have gone three there at least once. And I’m sure he got used that way in college. But he’s a TJ guy with a lot of future in the bigs, possibly even this year. There’s no reason to burn up his arm and his innings when you’ve got plenty of “innings eaters” in minor-league ‘pens.

Welcome to the pros, Nick Banks. Just don’t get too attached to that #34.

By the time Banks gets to DC, #34 may be available.

No Juan Soto on the GCL roster. I am hoping they just have not added him because he is new.

Franco and Taylor Hearn are there. I would not be shocked to see Hearn start today and pitch an inning or two. They have done that before with rehabbing pitchers. Either way, it will be good to see him.

Franco is actually not the youngest 3B on the team. Omar Meregildo is 3 days younger.

      June 24, 2016 at 10:12 am

The roster I see includes Soto:

      http://www.milb.com/roster/index.jsp?cid=466

This list includes three OFs (Soto among them) who are younger than Franco. Kieboom is as well, for that matter.

Also cool to see Josh Johnson getting to start a managerial career at age 30.

Yes, it’s very good to see Hearn listed as “active.” I do hope he’s ready to start rehab.

      1. KW says:
        June 24, 2016 at 10:29 am

Err, that Hearn is ready for rehab starts.

Speaking of injured Hagerstown hurlers, I keep asking whether anyone knows anything about what has sidelined Andrew Lee.

        June 24, 2016 at 10:51 am

Weird. They’re converting Diomedes Eusebio to a pitcher now?

Also, that looks like a really really crowded roster, especially with so many high-value DSL and high-round draft products. 6 OFs, 2 3Bs, 3 SSs, 3 2Bs, 2 1Bs, 3 Cs, 20 Ps! Hope they can find time for everyone.

        1. KW says:
          June 24, 2016 at 11:13 am

I imagine several, particularly the college draftees, are just in a holding pattern until some of the traffic clears at Auburn. (Guys repeating Auburn had better start hitting!) Even Stevenson and A. Lee made brief stops in the GCL last year before blowing through Auburn on their way to Hagerstown.

That handwriting was on the wall like
          a steven King short story
Interesting that Perdomo listed under 1b
And Corredor in outfield for GCL.
No sweat. The two guys need reps and
          ABs
Let’s see how the college lefties fare in
          Viera sun .
Still trying to erase that memory of Puig
Ball going under Taylors glove . I know
Some of you guys will say : alcohol !

    2. Jeff says:
      June 24, 2016 at 1:15 pm

Who ever pins nicknames : Omar Meregildo
      Go to it

    3. Karl Kolchak says:
      June 24, 2016 at 2:10 pm

Odd that Franco was dropped back to the GCL considering that he was a much bigger bonus baby than Robles and is the same age. He was excellent in rookie ball last year, and even though his OPS dropped at Auburn he only had 47 PAs in which he managed to draw 7 BBs against only 2 SOs.

      1. KW says:
        June 24, 2016 at 2:23 pm

A lot seems odd about the Franco situation, even if he’s just injured. He more than held his own at Auburn. Then he gets “demoted” to GCL and doesn’t start there. Plus the Nats drafted guys who project as 3Bs with two of their first three picks. Hmm . . .

        1. Jeff says:
          June 24, 2016 at 6:30 pm

Notice KW how two A ball levels each
Year can use R/R hitters in infield
After several years of drafting L/R IF.
          And up the chain ….

  3. John says:
    June 24, 2016 at 11:27 am

Thanks KW: That roster is an updated version of the one I saw this morning.

No Armond Upshaw there. My guess is he’ll be there with both Blake Perkins and Daniel Johnson in Auburn.

It will be interesting to see who all plays and how much. I’d love to see Kieboom-Soto-Franco as the middle of the order, but that is probably optimistic.

I’d also love to see young Tomas Alastre do well. You can never have too many dynamic, young pitchers.

    1. Jeff says:
      June 24, 2016 at 12:21 pm

Corredor will hit into that lineup

  4. forensicane says:
    June 24, 2016 at 12:05 pm

Wow. Lots on interesting bits here. Franco starts low, behind Neuse. I suppose the conga line with Ward will change things if he dominates. Eusebio converts to the mound – from a power hitting first baseman. Not your typical conversion.

And Soto starts stateside as a 17 yo without any DSL training ground. Wow. He must be impressing in a big way.

The SS list is not sustainable. Two college products behind a first round pick. I would expect flux at the GCL and Auburn level.
    Jake Johanssen starts over.

And….all of those college pitchers thrown in a GCL bowl to see who emerges as this year’s Ryan Brinley or Tyler Mapes. Hearn on the bump today…

    1. Jeff says:
      June 24, 2016 at 12:20 pm

Repeat. Interesting Perdomo listed 1b when
      Corredor played 1b last year
Something to suggest and consider cyber amigos :
Think next year : Latin kid Infiekders who EARN
Visas ?? Lead by my Guy Franklin Sierra
, Luis Aquino ( nephew to Christian Guzman ….
Luis Garcia son to former tiiger IF farmhand
Via bonus busting by Lerners????…. Will nats sign
Sons to Terry Wetzel and Jimmy Gonzalez
      ???

      1. John says:
        June 24, 2016 at 12:43 pm

Garcia can’t play until 2017. I expect he has a great shot at being in the GCL. He looked awesome in that BA video. I’d add pitchers Yelmery Sisnero and Adrian Martinez as possibilities to be this years Pedro Avila. Time will tell.

Also watch Yasel Antuna. If they are paying $4 million for this kid, I bet he’s better than BA and MLB think. In DiPuglia I trust.

3-0 in the 1st go baby Nats!

        1. Jeff says:

Antuna another arm for 4 million?
          Catcher buzz?

          1. Wally says:

I think Antuna is a SS

Gil , you plan vacations around places with
      Congo lines ???

    3. Jeff says:
      June 24, 2016 at 6:23 pm

Hey guys I just remembered that I reported from
The B fields of Viera on 3/31 that Eusebio was in
      Morning drills with pitchers ….
Silly me I did not look up to realize that Conner
Simonetti is a lefty swinging 1b to go with
Perdomo and Corredor on GCL. As Artie Johnson
Said on Laugh In: very intahvesting !!

  5. John says:
    June 24, 2016 at 12:06 pm

Hearn starting. Meregildo over Franco. No Soto or Evangelista. Kieboom batting 2nd and DHing.

  6. Formerly Guest says:
    June 24, 2016 at 4:56 pm

Whichever scout signed Tyler Watson deserves a big ol’ raise.

At some point this kid is gonna have an off-day and get lit up. But till that happens, man, it’s fun to dream about a 6-5 teenage lefty with a perfect ERA and a WHIP under 1. All from a 34th rounder.

No need to rush him, but if he keeps pitching well and makes AA by 2018, he could be looking at a call-up later that season.
