Rochester 8 Syracuse 3
• Hill (L, 1-3) 2⅔ IP, 7H, 7R, 7ER, 3BB, 3K, HR
• Gutierrez 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Severino 2-4, R
• Turner 2-5, RBI
Rochester struck for threee in the 1st, then four in the 3rd and never looked back as they cruised to an 8-3 win over Syracuse. Taylor Hill was strafed for seven runs on seven hits and three walks over two and 2/3rds. He struck out three while losing his third game. The bullpen combined for five and 1/3rd innings of one-run relief. No curse of the GBI for Pedro Severino, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the nine-hit, two-walk Chiefs offense. Roster move: OF Matt den Dekker recalled to Washington.
Akron 4 Harrisburg 3 (12 inn.)
• Giolito 5⅔ IP, 3H, 3R, 0ER, 5BB, 4K
• Suero (BS, 2) 1⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 3K, 2-2 IR-S
• Self (L, 1-1) 3IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 4K
• Difo 2-4, 2BB, 2SB, CS, E
• Bostick 2-5, BB, SB, E
The Senators bullpen and defense both fell short as Harrisburg dropped a 4-3 decision in extras to Akron. Lucas Giolito left with a 3-1 lead and two outs in the 6th, having given up three hits and five walks while striking out four. Wander Suero blew the save when he coughed up a two-run double to the first batter he faced to tie it at 3-3. All four RubberDuck runs were unearned, “thanks” to three errors, including two in the 6th and one in the 12th. Wilmer Difo reached based four times on two singles and two stolen bases to lead the Harrisburg attack, which featured five stolen bases along with ten hits and six walks.
Winston-Salem 4 Potomac 2
• Estevez 5IP, 4H, 0R, BB, 2K
• Benincasa (BS, 1; L, 0-1) 1IP, 2H, 3R, 2ER, 2BB, 0K
• Stevenson 3-4, R, 3B
• Carey 1-3, R, HR, RBI
Potomac lost this one in regulation as Winston-Salem greeted Robert Benincasa with three runs in the 6th to erase a 2-0 deficit en route to a 4-2 win. The blown save took away a potential win for Wirkin “For The Weekend” Estevez’s five innings of shutout ball on four hits and a walk while striking out two. Benincasa walked two and gave up two hits and had the defense let him down on two errors. Andrew Stevenson tripled while Dale Carey homered but the P-Nats offense was otherwise limited to five hits and one walk total.
Hagerstown 10 Kannapolis 3
• Baez 3⅔ IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 4BB, 5K
• Lambert (W, 1-0) 3⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, BB, 4K, 2HBP, WP, 1-0 IR-S
• Reetz 3-3, R, 3-2B, 2BB, 2RBI
• Gutierrez 1-3, 2R, HR, 2BB, 3RBI, CS
• Page 1-3, 2R, 2BB
The Suns scored ten times in the first four innings in a 10-3 win over the Intimidators. Hagerstown starter Joan Baez ran into the wall on his second turn through the lineup as Kannapolis scored three times with two out in the 4th to chase him from the game. Trey Lambert got the win, stranding one in the 4th despite a single and a wild pitch, and high-wiring three more scoreless innings with a walk, two hit batsman, and another hit allowed for the win. Jakson Reetz doubled three times and walked twice to lead the Suns attack, which was aided by four Kannapolis errors and nine walks. Roster moves: LHP Connor Bach, OF Jeff Gardner reassigned to Auburn; IF Cody Dent, RHP Mick VanVossen reassigned from Auburn.
Doubleday shuttle warming up for season ???
Benincasa’s return is big news. Before he went down last year, he was Storen’s successor. Nice to see him back, though who knows how long it will take him to get “there.” With that said, I wonder what % Erik Davis is, with the numbers he is putting up?
Still waiting on Hector Silvestre.
Of course, if one is persistent enough, one can see the kind of progress of Wirkin Estevez. Got to root for this guy!
No Robles in the lineup yesterday, and he was pinch-hit for in the 8th inning of the previous game. Any news? Injured?
Not in today’s game either.
In the meantime, here’s a reminder of how good and how fast he looks on a triple:
