Three Syracuse pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout to outduel their counterparts for Gwinnett, 1-0. Autin Voth went the first seven innings and gave up three hits, no walks, and struck out six. Trevor Gott set them down in order in the 8th on 14 pitches for hold #6 while Rafael Martin worked around a one-out single for his ninth save. Trea Turner’s RBI triple plated pinch-hitter Scott Sizemore who walked in place of Voth. The Chiefs were held to just five hits but drew four walks.
Akron 6 Harrisburg 1
• Long (L, 2-2) 5⅔ IP, 8H, 4R, 4ER, 0BB, 2K, 2HR

Spencer Kieboom’s two-out RBI double in the 7th quacked up both the no-hitter and the shutout for the RubberDucks as the Senators lost, 6-1. Harrisburg starter Jaron Long was flapped for four runs on eight hits, including two homers, over five and 2/3rds innings. He walked none and struck out two in his second loss. Zach Collier was the only Senator batter to reach base twice as he drew two of the four walks Akron pitchers issued.

Veteran Greg Ross combined with two relievers on a five-hit shutout while Drew Ward came off the DL with bang as Potomac took the opener from Winston-Salem, 2-0. Ross walked one and struck out four over seven innings for his second win. Robert Benincasa and Ryan Brinley were both perfect in the 8th and 9th innings to earn the hold and save respectively. Ward homered on the first pitch he saw to give the P-Nats a 1-0 lead in the 2nd. Osvaldo Abreu and “Orange” Marmolejos opened the 4th with back-to-back singles with Abreu taking third and scoring on double play ball for the second and final run of the game. The P-Nats managed just five hits total while striking out 12 times. Roster moves: 3B Drew Ward activated from the 7-Day DL; IF Grant DeBruin placed on the 7-Day DL (speciem iniuriae non fictus).
Hagerstown vs. Lexington — PPD
Rain washed away Friday night’s game at the Muni. They’ll try to make it up tonight with a twi-night doubleheader.
Anyone see who Law has the Nats taking in his latest mock? I’d also love to hear any comments he has on their strategy. yesterday he said the Nats were a possible landing spot for Kyle Funkhouser, the pitcher who turned down the Dodgers offer last year. I do not know if he meant for round 1 though.
One week from today, the DSL season starts. For me it is always interesting to see who is not on the team. Does Juan Soto play in the GCL at 17? From the 2014 class; do any of Bryan Bencosme, Thomas Alastre(i seem to recall DiPuglia being high on him), or Juan Evangelista make it over?
I hope Robles learns to dodge pitches. I like the idea of him actually playing.
Between the draft and July 2 this could be a very fun summer for a team that is already good.
I saw one mock draft (I’ve forgotten which one) that had the Nats taking Funkhouser in the SECOND round. I’d be much more comfortable with gambling on him there than I would be with either of the end-of-1st-round picks. For those, I’ve seen them linked to falling arms Quantrill and Hansen, although most don’t think Quantrill will fall that far. Personally, I would rather see them load up on power bats, but my guess would be one college hitter and one college right-hander. The top-tier college lefties will be long gone by then.
Drew Mendoza, robert Tyler. Will Craig was still on the board in this mock, as was Joey Wentz
BA mock draft had supp picks used on Mendoza
And lefty swinging OF from PA with Liberty U
Commitment
Thanks Wally. I thought the Mets were all over Craig. He’d be a great addition, but perhaps they think he can only play 1B and Zim will be around for awhile. Mendoza is pretty heavily connected to them at this point. I’d love it if one of he or Franco could stick at short and both played at Hagerstown next year. Two 19-year old power bats; one lefty, one righty. Too good to be true I am sure. Tyler seems like the type of pitcher they’d like. He just had a bad start though.
Jeff: BA actually has a more recent mock with them taking Tyler and Braxton Garrett who does not seem like their type, but is considered a safer high school pitcher. I would love it if they got Mendoza and Kirilloff though.
Thanks guys.
If this news has been posted on this board I’ve missed it (and I apologize for reposting if it has). Anyway, Taylor Jordan had his second TJ surgery on Thursday. Tough news for the kid, who’s now not really a “kid” at 27. The road back from the second one is always harder, so best wishes to him.
