Matt Skole’s Earl Weaver special in the 8th broke open a 1-0 game and Pedro Severino’s solo shot in the 9th put the cherry on top of a 5-0 Syracuse win over Buffalo. Four Chiefs pitchers combined on the two-hit shutout, starting with Aaron Laffey, who gave up both hits and both walks to the Bisons over the first six innings. Matt Grace, Nick Masset, and Rafael Martin each turned in a perfect inning of relief. Trea “When’s The Super-Two Date?” Turner went 3-for-4 with a run scored, a run driven in, and a stolen base led the 11-hit attack, matched by Brendan Ryan in the hit coulmn with a single and two doubles and a 3-for-5 mark.

The Senators nearly erased a 5-1 deficit after six with two in the 8th and a leadoff home run in the 9th. A walk put the tying run on with no outs, but a failed stolen base attempt, a whiff, and a groundout ended the comeback bid as the Thunder held on for a 5-4 win.
Jaron Long got the start against his former team and let in the first three runs on five hits and three walks over four and 2/3rds innings to suffer his first loss of 2016. Tablestters Rafael Bautista and Wilmer Difo ran wild, each singling twice, scoring once, and stealing two bases to account for four of the seven Harrisburg hits, one of the four walks, and one of the (gulp) 13 strikeouts.

Any farmer missing a calf today might want to look out on a rock as rain postponed Potomac for the second time this week and the fifth this season. They’ll make it up with a doubleheader on Thursday, June 9th.

The Intimidators ran Pedro Avila into the wall on the 1st lap with a three-run homer and raced to a 5-3 win and take the series from the Suns, 2-1. Avila recovered to put up four zeroes on the scoreboard to finish with three runs allowed (two earned) over five innings on three hits and three walk. He struck out six in his first loss of the season. The Hagerstown offense couldn’t undo the damage from defense (five errors) as they mustered just four hits. Edwin Lora was the sole batter to reach base more than once, taking three of the six bases-on-balls by the Suns.

Rivera gives up three hits in an inning but no runs? Talk about a high-wire act.
Good to see Difo getting his mojo back. I was afraid he had really hit a wall. I thought people got a little over-exuberant about his ceiling last year, but I still think he’s a borderline major-leaguer. The power he showed in 2014 hasn’t reemerged, though.
And kudos to Trea for just continuing to take care of business. That’s what he did last season with all eyes on him while he was in limbo between organizations, and again this year while he’s once again held hostage by arcane rules. He’ll get the call, sooner or later, and he won’t be coming back.
I’m really pleased with Severino’s offensive production this year. Will be great if he can sustain it.
Funnily enough, he has the same number of walks in Syracuse as he does in DC this season. The difference is he has 2 ABs in the big leagues and 61 in the minors!

Story about Wilmer Difo- he is maybe 5′ 10″ and his mother was interviewed. She said “he would have been a lot bigger but they couldn’t afford a lot of protein when he was growing up”.
