The Chiefs completed a three-game sweep with a 3-1 win over the Braves. Threes were wild as Paolo Espino won his third game with seven innings of one-run ball on seven hits and one walk while striking out four. J.C. Gutierrez earned his third hold while Nick Masset got his third save as both relievers turned in a scoreless inning while giving up one hit. Caleb Ramsey pushed his hit streak to seven games with a single and a double, which has pushed his batting average to .3308, which trails I.L. leader Jermaine Curtis by .0001.

Officially, the wind was blowing out at 10mph to CF… but there were gusts from 15 whiffs by Akron batters in a 2-1 loss to Harrisburg. That creaking you hear might just be the Reynaldo Lopez bandwagon taking on some passengers as the 22-y.o. Dominican struck out a career-high of 12 without a single walk over five innings. He gave up one run on five hits. The decision went to Koda Glover, who tossed two scoreless innings and fanned two while allowing one hit and one walk. Wilmer Difo led off the 9th with the fourth Sens hit and was sacrificed over and in by Issac Ballou and Neftali Soto, respectively. Soto scored the first run after leading off the 2nd with a triple and trotting home on a grounder to short.

Potomac’s four-game streak stopped with a 4-1 loss to Winston-Salem. Veteran starter Boone Whiting was charged with all four Dash runs on five hits, including two solo homers in the 1st and 3rd innings, with no walks and three strikeouts. It was his second loss. Justin Thomas finished the game with two scoreless innings. Offensively, the P-Nats were held to just three hits and two walks with Matt Reistetter and Dale Carey both reaching base twice with a single and a walk and Andrew Stevenson breaking up the shutout with an RBI double in the 3rd.
Lexington 11 Hagerstown 8

The Suns led 3-0 early but gave up five runs in the 4th and three in the 6th to fall behind 8-3 and couldn’t catch up to lose the series finale, 11-8. Pedro Avila took the loss with five runs allowed on nine hits and two walks over three and 2/3rds innings. Matthew Page went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a triple and drove in six while Jakson Reetz walked three times and scored three times to lead the Hagerstown offense.
The good news is all the games were played with the remnants of that tropical storm passing through.
Whatever Reynardo was working on, it’s sure is fixed. A couple more like this and he returns to elite prospect status.
Huge night for Lopez. 12 K in only 5 IP is positively Scherzer-esque! I hope Lopez may have turned a corner around the same time as Giolito after uncertain starts, though it does look like Lopez likes to alternate between electric and pedestrian starts. In his past 5 starts, he’s gone good (1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K), bad (3 ER, 5 BB, 5 K), good (1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K), bad (4 ER, 5 BB, 4 K), good (1 ER, 0 BB, 12 K). Here’s to hoping he breaks the cycle.
Also, some positive signs from some of the underperforming but highly touted 3rd rounders in Hagerstown. Reetz and Wiseman have sustained their recent hot streaks. Reetz hitting .387 (.488 OBP .774 SLG) in his past 10, and Wiseman .361, but Wiseman is going to need to hit for more power if he’s going to make it as a corner OF.
