• Severino 2-3
• Ballou 1-2, 2B
Syracuse fell back to .500 with a 5-0 loss to Pawtucket in the great (well, no, not really) state of Rhode Island last night. Paolo Espino was strafed for three runs on 11 hits and a walk over five and a 1/3rd innings to lose for the second time this season. Pedro Severino singled twice, Matt Skole walked twice, and Isaac Ballou doubled once. The rest of the lineup went 1-for-24 with one walk.
Harrisburg – OFF DAY
With its new field still under construction, the Yard Goats — love the color scheme, hate the name — visit the Senators but play as the home team for the next three games.
Potomac – OFF DAY
Potomac will finally play a third team when Myrtle Beach comes to the Pfitz this week for three, followed by… wait for it… Wilmington.
Hagerstown – OFF DAY
Likewise, the Suns will finally play in a third state (fourth opponent) when they open a three-game series in Asheville before making the nearly 500-mile bus ride back to the Muni on Friday – without the benefit of an off day or an early start.
Who will be the first person besides me to think
Of the movie glengary Glenn ross in relation
To baltimore guy now on potomAc roster ??
Luke agree. Could they come up with a better
Name to honor Navy corp??
For the record, I believe that the “1” in the rest of the Syracuse lineup’s “1-for-24” was by Trea Turner 🙂
Yea, Turner’s OPS has plummeted to .969.
The A.J. Cole & Fedde watch is officially on for tonight.
So what happens if Mapes, who never gets any buzz, out-pitches both of them again?
Win win
As 30th round pick Tyler Mapes is the longest of long shots and one of the reasons we love this stuff.
I’m sure his bonus was around $6.
Well, there’s nothing wrong with refusing to drink or do dr…oh wait… I don’t get too concerned when our favorites go unnoticed. When they succeed, we can call out the latecomers — this is especially fun when those latecomers are the beat writers (e.g. James Wagner vis a vis Michael Taylor — and when they fail, well it happens more than any of us like to think about.
I missed yesterday’s thread, but I saw Pedro Avila’s name pop up. Somehow I totally missed that he was placed in Hagerstown, essentially skipping two entire levels (GCL and NYPL). That’s crazy, especially since 2015 was his first season in the minors!
With Danny Espinosa continuing failure to consistently hit a baseball, Turner will be promoted as soon as possible, right? Or will Espinosa’s perplexing ability to convince those in charge to be given second/third/fourth/infinity chances continue?
Plus, with Turner as a big league option, we might be able to actually get a real lead off hitter to bat there (Turner’s walking over 11% of the time), rather than fast/lowOBP types (Revere and Taylor).
Barring injury or Espinosa going on a tear, Turner will come up May 28 as reportedly any call up after that date would add a year before Turner’s arbitration eligibility. If no one is hurt, the interesting question is who gets sent down or released when Turner comes up and Revere is activated off the DL. Den Dekker? Robinson? MAT? Stephen Drew? Heisey?
Here’s a question for you guys who are experts on MLB options. Did the Nats burn den Dekker’s one remaining option when he was sent out at the beginning of this year, then recalled almost immediately? I believe he only had one left. Robinson is out of options; Taylor has two left, as does Espinosa. Drew has a significant contract they would have to eat to cut him, so he’s probably the most solid of all. Heisey could just develop a sudden case of fallen arches and go on the DL.
We’ll see. It’s going to be interesting. These things often work themselves out with an injury here or there.
It won’t be Heisey–he’s providing the same pop off the bench as Robinson did last year. Won’t be Drew, either, with his contract. Robinson better get it going or he’s going to be the odd man out eventually.
My prediction for what it is worth is that den Dekker heads back to Syracuse when Revere is ready, and if Robinson is still struggling he’ll be DFA’ed for Turner and Murphy will become the backup first baseman. That will leave a bench of Espinosa, Drew, Heisey and Taylor. Two righties, a lefty and a switch hitter.
