Syracuse 9 Lehigh Valley 4
• Voth 6IP, 4H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 9K
• Davis (BS, 1; W, 2-0) 2IP, 2H, R, ER, 0BB, 4K
• Turner 3-5, R, 2B, HR, 3RBI
• Keyes 3-5, R, 2B, 2RBI
• Skole 2-5, R
A seven-run 8th threw the switch on a 2-2 tie as Syracuse derailed Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for a 9-4 win. Austin Voth did not walk a batter again in six innings as he allowed an unearned run on four hits while striking out nine in a no-decision. Erik Davis got the blown-save-win with a run let in on two hits over two innings. Trea Turner was a triple shy of the cycle as he drove in three while going 3-for-5, a mark that Kevin Keyes matched with a double and two singles and two RBI.
Bowie 7 Harrisburg 2
• Williams (L, 0-3) 5IP, 7H, 7R, 7ER, 3BB, 3K, 2HR
• Mendez 2IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 4K
• Dykstra 2-3, BB
• Bautista 1-3, R, 2B, 2BB, SB
A five-run 1st by the BaySox was more than enough as the Sens lost their third straight, 7-2. Big flies bookended Austen Williams’s third start (and third loss), with a two-run shot in the 1st and another in the 5th, his final inning. The 23-y.o. Texan gave up seven runs on seven hits and walked three. Rafael Bautista and Cutter Dykstra both reach base three times to lead the Harrisburg offense, which once again struggled to convert baserunners to runs with a 1-for-10 mark with RISP and ten left on base.
Roster move: RHP Jaron Long assigned from Washington.
Potomac 5 Wilmington 2
• Valdez (W, 3-1) 7IP, 2H, 2R, 1ER, 0BB, 11K
• Brinley (SV, 2) 2IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Read 2-5, R, 2RBI
• Mesa 1-4, R, 3B, RBI
The P-Nats domination of the Blue Rocks on the road continued with a 5-2 win, the fourth straight for Potomac. Phillips Valdez struck out 11 against no walks while letting in two over seven strong innings (80 pitches, 58 for strikes) to win his third game in four starts. Ryan Brinley closed out the game with two scoreless for his second save. Raudy Read went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI to pace the P-Nats offense.
Hagerstown 7 Hickory 6
• A. Lee 5IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 6K
• Rivera (W, 2-0) 2IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 1K
• Gutierrez 3-5, R
• Page 2-5, R, 3B, 3RBI
• Robles 2-5, 2R, 2B, RBI, 2SB
Hagerstown went back to the same, um, page of the script as they wrote up another walkoff win over Hickory, 7-6. The comeback masked a poor showing by the bullpen (4IP, 4R) and took another “W” away from Andrew Lee, who turned in five innings of two-run ball on four hits. He walked none and struck out six. Matthew Page’s IF single to 3B plated Victor Robles for the gamewinner as the Suns rallied for two in the 9th. Page drove in three while Kelvin Gutierrez collected three hits to lead the Suns’ 13-hit, zero-walk offense.
It looks like the Nats are planning to skip Ross’s turn in the rotation if necessary this coming week. I just wonder, if they had to bring someone up for a spot start, would it be Voth over Cole at this point? The only snag would be that Voth isn’t on the 40-man roster yet.
Also, Robles’s OPS at Hagerstown is now 1.044, which is almost exactly the same as his OPS in the GCL last year before he got promoted. By comparison, back in 2011, the last time Hagerstown featured an 18-year-old phenom, that kid’s OPS was “only” .977.
I agree and would use Voth over Cole as well. I don’t remember seeing but does anyone know what is wrong with Taylor Jordan? I wonder if he could be the next dfa casualty with Goodwin playing so well.
A call-up date to watch may be May 14, a double-header make-up with the Marlins. Teams can bring up guys from the minors for such dates without “penalty” of an option. Voth would certainly look like the front-runner for the call.
But… he would still have to be on the 40-man roster:

Yep.
Luke, looks like your scouting of Austen Williams has been spot-on. He’s heading back to Potomac from the looks of things.
The Andrew Lee/Victor Robles Express just keeps on rolling.
After 63 AB’s, Drew Ward still has a very healthy .926 OPS.
I’m with Karl on Voth, he’s ready for a shot. There is some high quality on that Syracuse staff.
Voth after three starts: 2.00 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, 21 Ks in 18 innings and ZERO walks. Not sure what the poor guy has to do to enter the conversation of being one of the “top” prospects . . . Really, if the big club had to call up someone right now, it would have to be this guy, right?
Andrew Lee’s stats after four starts aren’t quite as imposing as Voth’s, but they’re still very good: 2.25 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 18/5 K/BB ratio. This from a two-way player drafted as a reliever in the 11th round. He certainly looks like he should get considered for a mid-season call to Potomac.
Austen Williams may be joining him at Potomac, going in the other direction. He appears to have the dreaded Blake Schwartz disease, where AA bats find those balls that missed them at A+. Williams only had a half season at Potomac, so his promotion might just have been a little too aggressive.
Turner and Robles, meanwhile, continue to justify everything that has been written about them. Robles is up to 9 SBs.
I was writing at the same time as the others. Looks like we’re all thinking similar thoughts!
