• Goodwin 3-4, R, 3B
• Ramsey 3-4
• Campana 3-5
The Chiefs racked up 12 hits but could only drive in one as they fell to the RailRiders, 2-1 in the series finale. Taylor Hill started and let in one unearned run on three hits over six innings for a no-decision. The loss went to Trevor Gott as he gave up the gamewinner in the 8th on a hit and two walks. Brian Goodwin, Caleb Ramsey, and Tony Campana each had three hits with Goodwin scoring the lone run after a leadoff triple followed by a Pedro Severino double in the 7th.

Reading scored in three of four innings against Nats uberprospect Lucas Giolito as they destroyed Harrisburg, 14-2. Giolito gave up five runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk over three and 2/3rds innings. He was lifted after 76 pitches thrown, with 55 going for strikes. Tablesetters Rafael Bautista and Wilmer Difo combined for five hits and drove in both runs while the other seven batters went 1-for-24 with a walk and eight strikeouts.

Delmarva 4 Hagerstown 3
• DeRosier 5IP, 3H, R, ER, 0BB, 7K
• Torres (L, 1-1) 3IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, BB, K
• Robles 3-5, 2RBI, SB
• Dent 2-4, R
The organizatonal sweep was made complete when the Suns’ rally in the 9th fell short, 4-3. Starter Matt DeRosier struck out seven over five innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits and no walks. Luis Torres was less effective, strafed for three runs on four hits over three innings to suffer the loss. Victor Robles singled three times, including a two-run hit in the 9th with two outs to cut the Delmarva lead to one, while Cody Dent singled twice to lead the Hagerstown offense.
Hmm, where’s the silver lining . . .
Goodwin is hitting .393. If den Dekker continues to scuffle with the big club (1 for 8 I believe), does Goodwin get a look? He’s on the 40-man and should have the options to cover it. I’m not sure of den Dekker’s option status, though.
Wow, Glover struck out all three he faced. How much more does he have to prove in the Carolina League if no one can even put a bat on his stuff?
It’s going to be interesting to see if and when the Nats promote Robles. He’s so young, so I could understand if they don’t want to rush him. But there’s a good group of Latin players at Potomac if they move him up. You would think he’ll stay at Hagerstown for at least two or three months, though.
Glover is indeed looking good so far. However, he’s walked more batters in the past 2 weeks than he has in the rest of his professional career….. :o) (*SSS*)
Best name so far of the burgeoning 2016 season goes to the Delmarva Shorebirds relief pitcher who got the save in yesterday’s game. Maybe he should get together with ‘The Orange’??
Boy, yesterday brings back bad memories of last year–not only having every team including the big club lose, but they all struggle to score runs.
I’m not certain if it’s a new feature or not on the Baseball America website, but they now have sortable stats by organisation, for batters and pitchers: see for example…
http://www.baseballamerica.com/statistics/leagues/leaders_all/?stat=bat&submittedFilters=yes&orgFilter=WAS&y=2016
Highest OPS in the entire organisation as of today’s date? One Mr. Bryce Harper……
I prefer this bad boy: http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/affiliate.cgi?id=WSN&year=2016
Thanks Luke. It’s good (more user friendly), but the data is a bit spurious: for example (looking just now), Robles doesn’t appear on the entire batting list, and Drew Ward only has 3 ABs?
