Syracuse 6 Scanton/Wilkes-Barre 5

• Runion (W, 3-3) 3IP, 3H, 0R, 2BB, 2K
• Martinson 2-5, R, 2B, HR, RBI
• Lozada 2-4, R, BB
• Sizemore 2-2, R, HR, 3RBI

The Chiefs built an early 5-1 lead, blew it, then rallied in the 10th for 6-5 win over the RailRiders. Jose Lozada drew a leadoff walk, took second on an Emmanuel Burriss sacrifice, and came home on rulebook single as Isaac Ballou drove the ball over the centerfielder’s head for the gamewinner. Taylor Hill went the first six innings and gave up the first four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out three for a no-decision. P.J. Walters gave up the equalizer, thus the blown save, in the 7th. Sam Runion got the win with three scoreless innings in the 8th, 9th, and 10th.

Akron 3 Harrisburg 1

Akron broke through for three in the 3rd and stifled Harrisburg for a 3-1 win. Colin Bates gave up all three RubberDuck runs on a home run, and six hits total over six innings. He walked three and struck out four. Matt Purke pitched a scoreless 7th while Erik Davis kept Akron at bay in the 8th and 9th. Wilmer Difo scored the lone Senators run after leading off the 4th with a triple and coming home on a Brian Goodwin sacrifice fly. Goodwin later doubled, but the Sens mustered just five hits total and were 0-for-1 with RISP.

Potomac 6 Salem 2

• Webb 3-3, 3R, 2B, HR, BB, RBI, SB, CS
• Bautista 2-3, 2B, RBI, SB, CS

Tyler Mapes turned in another seven innings of one-run ball as the P-Nats tripled up the Red Sox, 6-2. Mapes allowed six hits and walked three for his sixth Hi-A win of ’15. Jake Johansen closed out the game with a run in the 8th and a scoreless 9th. Raudy Read and Brendan Webb both reached base four times and combined for two doubles, four runs scored, and four RBI as Potomac collected 11 hits and drew three walks total.

Lexington 7 Hagerstown 5
• Bach 4⅓ IP, 5H, 3R, 3ER, BB, 5K, HR
• D. Williams (L, 1-2) ⅔ IP, 1H, 2R, 2ER, BB, 0K, HR
• Abreu 4-5, R, 2B, 3B, RBI
• Ruiz 2-3, 2R, 2B, HR, BB, 2RBI

The Legends walked off with a two-run shot in the 10th for a 7-5 win over the Suns. Connor Bach started and let in three on five hits and a walk over four and a 1/3rd innings for a no-decision. The loss went to Deion Williams gave up the one hit and walked a batter for the loss, his second. Osvaldo Abreu was a homer short of the cycle as he went 4-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI to pace the Hagerstown offense.

Batavia 6 Auburn 3
• Guilbeau (L, 2-3) 5IP, 5H, 3R, 2ER, 2BB, 7K
• Johns 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• K. Gutierrez 2-4, 2B, 2RBI, SB
• Robles 3-5, R, SB, CS

Auburn never led in this one as they dropped a 6-3 decision to Batavia. Taylor Guilbeau gave up the first three runs on five hits and two walks over five innings for his third loss. Why haven’t the Nats dfa’ed Erik Davis yet? Surely he would pass through waivers and be able to be outrighted, right? During the offseason theoretically more teams may be willing to take a flyer on him, I’d think.

They haven’t DFA’d E. Davis because they haven’t needed the spot on the 40-man roster. In fact, they’ve got one more move they could make before a DFA, as they haven’t moved Span to the 60-day DL. Reed Johnson had been playing in minor-league games, and I thought they were getting him ready for activation, which would have required a 40-man move, but then he’s disappeared again. The only other move I could see this season would be if they decided to bring up Skole for another LH bat, which would require adding him to the 40-man.

But yes, I agree that Erik Davis has lived a charmed life on the 40-man this year. The same could be said of Tyler Moore making it through the whole season with the big club without an option left.

I’m starting to come around to the idea of Austin Voth being minor league pitcher of the year. He has been consistent and has finished strong, notwithstanding his W-L. Him or Austen WiIlliams, as we go to the wire.

Also feel like Turner has a shot for the player of the year, especially if Rizzo wants to burnish his own 2015, but I’m still going to bet on OMD. I cannot see the short season people winning.

Bryan Mejia goes 4-4 but the seamheads here would be more interested that he drew another walk. Lost in the late season promotions (replicating the late season cups of coffee philosophy through the system) is a lack of promotion for Mejia and Robles, nor OMD. I am sure all of those folks will get a lot of attention this off season.

Potomac will have a very interesting team next year with the GCL 13 graduates. Fun to follow the alumni through the system and to watch them blossom on an individual level. Including Giolito, of course.

OMD in harrisburg with those doubles this year
      Should translate to 15-17 HRs??

Count all the arms coming off 60 day DL: Chase McDowell
Weston Davis Hector Silvestre. Who should we see
Dig in next year and ross some good innings??

45 RBI for Mejia at Hagerstown. 45! Gimme some o’ that!

GG you are more progressive as an arm chair
Farm director than the real one.
Are you leap frogging anyone like Schrock to
    PotomAc ??
Maybe the litmus test is in Diedick to hagerstown
    Bypassing Auburn??
    Meiija has some inner Vidro.
I can go Voth as pitcher of year over Williams .
Maybe his arm suits 6-7 IP role late next year?
    Cole as a starter.
    Mash the mets!!

I am no farm director! But I have enormous respect for the role of mental maturing and health in the advancement process. That also includes English fluency for the immigrants and fundamental skills.

It’s hard to advance players aggressively when their defense is so poor. It’s also challenging when their strikeouts are too high.

The system is sorely lacking in high ceiling position prospects. Robles and Turner are the stars, but no one else has yet emerged. perhaps that is why I have been so effusive about Mejia. But we need to also remember that he was started at Auburn when Abreu was not. So somewhere this summer, his light turned on.

And that is what happens every year; the light turns on for someone and he takes that quantum leap forward. Last year it was Difo and Taylor. It happened to Souza.

Leap frogging also means relegating another prospect. You do that with certifiable stars only. Schrock, at this point, has too many people to leapfrog. No way he is leapfrogging Mejia, and Gutierrez, your guy, will also be heard (he has been playing SS), as is Abreu and even Masters. So Schrock, to me at least, will have to slug his way out of Hagerstown, just like Wisemann and the slew of other college talent that will be there.

It’s just as well on the infield front. No real infield comers among the GCL Nats to compete with the collegians.

Hard to size up the pitching in this organization. Treinen appears to be ticketed to the BP for good. Stammen back (?), Rivero back, Thornton? Carpenter? Storen out. Jansen (?). I remain a Rafael Martin fan. But we all cling to our guns and religion and prospect faves.

Cole and Jordan and Giolito all in the mix. They’ll add another lefty starter, too. We were not thinking about Joe Ross at this time last year.

      Benincasa ?

      1. forensicane says:
        September 7, 2015 at 4:08 am

With all of the injuries it is wait and see. When a player misses the entire year, that doesn;t even mean he’ll be ready for spring. Careful or not, many do not make it back; Erik Davis, Christian Garcia, Brad Meyers, Purke (now in bullpen). Benincasa and Silvestre were the two prominent arms in the system who went down and stayed down, and there were a few others. Why pitchers get cycled through repeatedly. And why not to give six year contracts to players like Zimmerman and Strasburg.

Solis is an interesting guy to watch, as is the entire LH relief situation at AAA and above. Grace, Solis, Harper all on the verge. Of course Harper is not going anywhere else. But will Nick Lee getting groomed, someone is going to be part of a package.

Diedrick had a few moments but alas…by this time next year the team will be welcoming another draft class and Dominican grads for 1B-OF-DH that includes Ortiz and Ramirez, if anyone. And perhaps Randy Encarnacion for one last tease 🙂

      True. True says tweetie bird
Yes all those kids learning English . And they
Probably do not have the hot teacher I tried to learn
From in 8 th grade. !!! Jorge !! Huh?? Lol.
Treinen for sure. Hum baby next year .
Nats should add a couple outfielders like Tyler Austin
For upper farm in winter .
