Pawtucket 6 Syracuse 1
• Espino (L, 5-6) 5⅔ IP, 8H, 5R, 5ER, 2BB, 7K, HR
• J. Gutierrez 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Ramsey 2-3, R, BB
• Burriss 2-5, 2B, RBI

Pawtucket broke open a 1-0 game with a four-run 6th to send Syracuse to its third straight loss, 6-1. Paolo Espino was knocked for five runs on eight hits, including a home run over five and 2/3rds innings. He walked two and struck out seven. Caleb Ramsey walked once and singled twice to lead the Chiefs offense, which was limited to six hits and three walks.

Harrisburg — OFF DAY
Turns out if you throw seven one-hit, shutout innings that’ll make you the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week. It’s the third such honor for the 21-y.o. Lucas Giolito, who won the award twice last season with the Hagerstown (June 23-29, July 21-27).

Potomac — OFF DAY
Reynaldo Lopez gave up two hits in his seven-scoreless, 11-K effort last week, but walked none to effectively match Giolito’s outing and was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week. It was his second weekly award, as he won the POTW for the week June 23-29 for the New York-Penn League in 2014.
Roster move: OF Denard Span rehab assignment ended.

Hickory 3 Hagerstown 2 (11 inn.)
• Fedde 4⅔ IP, 4H, 0R, BB, 4K
• Napoli (L, 5-4) 3⅔ IP, 3H, R, ER, 2BB, 3K
• Stevenson 3-5, R, 2B, SB
• Page 2-5, R, 2B

Hagerstown’s modest four-game winning streak ended with a 3-2 loss to Hickory in extra innings. Erick Fedde made his second Sally Lg. start, tossing four and 2/3rds scoreless with one walk and four hits allowed and striking out four. The Crawdads pinched Drew Van Orden for two in the top of the 6th but the Suns tied it in the bottom half of the 6th on a double, wild pitch, and RBI groundout. The loss was pinned on David Napoli in his fourth inning of relief. Despite Mario Sanchez stranding three in the top of the 11th, the offense did not get the lift and went in order in the bottom of the 11th.

Auburn — ALL-STAR BREAK
Kelvin Rodriguez is the sole Auburn representative in the 2015 New York-Penn League All-Star game, held tonight at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, MD.

Not much to note at the GCL last night, but in the DSL, Pedro Avila continues to prove he’s an 18 year old man playing amongst boys. He went 5IP, giving up only one single, walking one and striking out seven (no runs, earned or unearned). He’s now lowered his ERA to 2.26 after 13 starts and 59.2 IP. His 87 K to 17 BB is excellent.

17 year old Edwin Ventura had a good game too, going 2-3 with a BB and 2 SB. He’s now hitting .294/.374/.387 on the season playing all 3 OF positions, and showing that some Dominicans may indeed walk their way out of the DSL.

I’m curious why Fedde was lifted midway through the 4th. He was breezing through Hickory’s lineup up until then. He’d put runners at first and second with a walk and a single, but had 2 outs before Van Orden came in for some mop up duty. Is there any chance it was for health reasons?

Not sure if this was related to Fedde’s departure in the middle of the 5th, but Hagerstown’s manager Patrick Anderson was ejected from the game during that same inning.

Tight pitch count would be my guess.

Time to remove Ross from your prospects list as he has now pitched enough innings that he has officially “graduated.”

That trade just keeps looking better and better.

OK, I’m confused. Wasn’t it reported that Fedde was being sent out to Auburn again after his first start? Oh well, a very good turn with the Suns this time.

Three more knocks for Stevenson, now hitting a cool .331 across his minor-league stops this half-season.

After 77 AB’s in Hagerstown, Stevenson has a .774 OPS so he’s adjusting well.

It takes 600 AB’s to get the aluminum out of a players swing so the instructional league will do him a lot of good.
As advertised, not much power but it’s best to wait and see what he does next year.

Mark L. Very very good point about the aluminum getting
Out of a hitters nature. !
