Syracuse scored twice in the 7th to erase a 1-0 deficit and the bullpen was perfect in the final two innings to edge Rochester, 2-1. Richard Bleier gave up the lone RedWing run on three hits over seven innings for his sixth AAA win. He walked none and struck out one. Matt Grace and Rafael Martin had 1-2-3 innings in the 8th and 9th innings to earn their 12th hold and save respectively. Tyler Moore and Jason Martinson both went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Chiefs’ six-hit onslaught.

John Simms became the latest victim of the Curse of the GBI, as yesterday’s “Good” wasn’t as the SeaWolves rung him up for six runs in the 1st. The Senators managed to get him a no-decision (again) but lost via walkoff (again), 7-6. Simms struck out two but walked three and gave up three hits in 2/3rds of an inning. After letting in two of three inherited runner, the Harrisburg bullpen locked down Erie for seven innings while the offense got back four in the 4th and single runs in the 5th and 8th to tie the game. Paul Demny took the loss when the SeaWolves converted a one-out walk into the gamewinner with back-to-back singles.

Potomac stopped a two-game slide with a 5-1 win to set up a chance for a series split this afternoon. Knuckleballer Jeff Howell walked six but only gave up one run and three hits over five innings for his first Car. Lg. win. Justin Thomas followed with three scoreless innings for the hold, his second for the P-Nats. Drew Ward drove in four of the five runs with a two-run single in the 1st and two-run homer in the 8th. Lynchburg, however, clinched the C.L. North with its fifth straight win to eliminate Potomac from the playoffs.

Kannapolis scored six unanswered runs to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 9-4 win over Hagerstown. Luis Reyes was chased in the 3rd after letting in three runs without a hit, thanks to two walks and a Dan Uggla error. The loss went to Kevin Perez, who left without retiring a batter in the 6th after two singles, a double, and another Uggla error. Conor Keniry went 3-for-4 with a run scored while Matthew Page
went 2-for-4 with double and an RBI to pace the Suns offense.

The Doubledays had baserunners in eight of nine innings but couldn’t push across the go-ahead runs until the 9th where they broke a 1-1 deadlock with a two-run single by Rhett Wiseman and took the game, 3-1. Jefry Rodriguez put in five (or more) innings for the fifth straight start with one run allowed on three hits and one whiff. Maximo Valerio got his first NYPL win with three scoreless innings, though he walked two and hit a batter. Mariano Rivera III got his fourth save [insert reference to father here] as he worked around a two-out single in the 9th. Wiseman reached base five times with three singles and two walks to lead Auburn’s 13-hit, four-walk attack.

GCL Update
Rain washed out two of the final three games for the G-Nats, who finished 24-34 and in last place, 9½ games behind the G-Cards.
Teenager Anderson Franco and 28th Rd. pick Mick Van Vossen were shipped north to Auburn for further evaluation, and one would think that perhaps another pitcher (e.g. Matt DeRosier) might go, too.
