The RedWings scored in each of the first four innings as they soared past the Chiefs, 8-3 in the series opener. Paolo Espino was lit up for six runs on six hits and two walks over two and a 1/3rd innings to lake the loss, his fifth at AAA this season. Syracuse made the most of its limited offense, scoring three times on four hits and three walks. Tony Gwynn Jr. and Josh Johnson led the way with a single and walk apiece.

The Senators rallied for three runs in the 4th and 7th innings on their way to a 9-4 win over the Sea Dogs. Matt Purke bounced back from the beatdown in his previous start to hold Portland to two runs on five hits and a walk over five innings for his first AA win of ’15. Christopher Bostick was a triple shy of the cycle as he went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI. Shawn Pleffner and Cutter Dykstra also notched 3-for-5 nights as the Sens racked up 14 hits while snapping a five-game losing streak.
Roster move: RHP Paul Demny reassigned from Syracuse.

Drew Van Orden’s second-half spiral continued with his fourth straight loss as the Suns were pinched by the Crawdads, 9-6. Van Orden was charged with six runs on five hits and three walks over five and 2/3rds. Hagerstown rallied for four in the 8th to make things interesting at 8-6, but Hickory tacked on an insurance run in the bottom half to put the game out of reach. The Suns left on ten and were just 2-for-13 with RISP. Matthew Page and Andrew Stevenson both singled twice to lead the Hagerstown offense.

The jig was up for the Doubledays as the Renegades had it made against reliever Grant Borne with a three-run 6th en route to a 4-2. Starter Matthew Crownover saw his best outing of the season turn into a no-decision. He threw five shutout innings with four hits and two walks given up and two batters set down on strikes. Borne gave up all four runs (two earned) over three innings for the blown-save-loss. Victor Robles walked, singled, and stole a base while David Kerian went 2-for-4 with a double to pace the Auburn attack.
