Louisville 4 Syracuse 0
• Jordan (L, 2-4) 6IP, 8H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 2K, HR
• Martin 2IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, BB, K
• Lisson 2-4
• Ramsey 2-4

Louisville reversed its fortunes from Monday to shut out Syracuse on Tuesday, 4-0. Taylor Jordan turned in a quality start of three runs on eight hits and three walks but suffered his fourth AAA loss. Rafael Martin let in an unearned run on two hits and a walk out of the ‘pen. The Chiefs were a woeful 0-for-12 with RISP and left 10 men on. Mario Lisson and Caleb Ramsey both went 2-for-4 but the rest of the lineup managed just three hits.

Harrisburg 2 Richmond 0
• Bleier (W, 6-2) 7IP, 6H, 0R, BB, 2K, HBP
• Mendez (S, 8) 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Goodwin 1-2, R, 2BB
• Skole 2-4, 2-2B, RBI

Three Senators pitchers combined on the 2-0 shutout of the Flying Squirrels for Harrisburg’s seventh straight win. Richard Bleier got the win with seven innings pitched, allowing six hits, one walk, and striking out two. Sam Runion and Gilberto Mendez got the hold and save respectively with a scoreless inning in the 8th and 9th. Harrisburg was held to just five hits, but got RBI doubles from Matt Skole in the 1st and Drew Vettleson in the 8th for the go-ahead and insurance run respectively.

Potomac 6 Carolina 5
• Pivetta 6IP, 2H, R, ER, 3BB, 4K
• Lee (BS, 2; W, 1-1) 2IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 3K, 2-2 IR-S
• S. Perez 2-5, 2B, RBI
• Mesa 2-4, 2R, RBI
• DeBruin 2-4, R, 2B

Stephen Perez’s two-out RBI double gave the P-Nats a 6-5 win to complete the three-game sweep of Carolina. It also took the edge off blowing a 5-1 lead, which negated Nick Pivetta’s six innings of one-run ball, in which he allowed two hits and walked three while striking out four. Newcomer Grant DeBruin was one of three Potomac batters to have multiple hits, joining Narciso Mesa and Perez as the P-Nats racked up ten total.
Roster moves: IF Grant DeBruin, OF Alec Keller promoted from Hagerstown; 1B James Yezzo placed on the 7-Day DL.

Hagerstown 4 Greensboro 3
• Van Orden (W, 5-1) 6IP, 6H, 3R, 2ER, BB, 2K, PO at 1B
• Johns (SV, 2) 3IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 2K
• Carey 1-3, BB
• Dent 2-3, R, 2B, 2RBI, OF assist at HP

The Suns rallied for three in the 6th to turn a 3-1 deficit into the eventual winning score of 4-3 over the Grasshoppers. Drew Van Orden got the win, his fifth, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk over six innings. The save went to Sam Johns, who threw three scoreless innings to close out the game, giving up a hit and a walk while fanning two. Cody Dent singled and doubled and drove in two to lead Hagerstown’s offense.
IFs Carlos Lopez, Brennan Middleton released; C Raudy Read placed on 3-Day TIL; C Adderling Ruiz reassigned from Potomac; IFs Conor Keniry, Bryan Mejia, and Diomedes Eusebio reassigned from Auburn.

Auburn 3 Brooklyn 2
• Mills 4IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB, 2K
• Torres 3IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• Glover (SV, 1) 2IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 5K
• Page 2-4, R, 2B
• Kerian 2-4, RBI

The Doubledays overcame an early 2-0 deficit and chipped away with single runs in the 1st, 2nd, and 6th innings to edge the Cyclones, 3-2. McKenzie Mills started and let in two runs over four innings on four hits and three walks while striking out two. The win went to Luis Torres for his three scoreless innings of relief while Koda Glover struck out five of eight batters faced to earn the save. Matthew Page and David Kerian both went 2-for-4 to pace the Auburn offense while the defense turned four double plays.

Has anyone seen anything about A. J. Cole after he left Monday’s game early? Luke speculated that there might be an injury.

    1. KW says:
      July 1, 2015 at 11:47 am

According to what Byron Kerr, Cole was removed due to groin tightness, not an arm issue. Whew.

Not surprising if DL Cole with all his ups and
    Downs on syracuse shuttle
Not surprised by Suns additions and releases .
Kinery enables Anderson to play dent in OF more .
Gil Grissom spot on about cycling depth guys/ OG
Types up or out making way for versatile new ones .
I would give a yeah for Masters to potomAc with
Meijia/ Abreau DP combo . Maybe Eusebio could
    Play some 3 b??
Less is more @ auburn ? Lol

Gil Grissom , this may sound like a chuckler but
After Lopez and Middleton were given their
Pink slips …. Now we await Jake Myers to get
Off DL so he can blend in with various Anderson
Platoons @ 3 b while Meiija maybe pushes
Masters to Potnats??? we both agree that
Cody Debt in OF is a push so maybe hags
Awaiting Rodrieguez return once Gwynn, Jr.
Gets off Cuse DL?? Maybe Langlois gets out of
XST to give Suns a third R/R OF???

Jeff, to me the biggest questions that resolve the OF-IB rotation are 1) Where does Wiseman go when he signs, and 2) How soon does Robles get the bump to Auburn. Those are talents people will get out of the way for. Perhaps the fate on the ladder is dictated by Stevenson’s progress. He already has two assists at Auburn, and Robles has shown arm at GCL also. Both are CF on the ladder. I still think that an organization that would start Keller’s career at Hagerstown is the same organization that will start Wiseman at Hagerstown.

Otherwise, the Auburn roster so swollen that they need a 787 to make their trips, not a bus.trivia show (Ripken, Dent, and Jefferies) are more than OG with cache. They sure wanted to get Jefferies in the organization, and treated Rivera like more than bloodlines.

Expect, at 500K, to see a lot more of Schrock now that he is on a roster (Auburn).

The other neat story line this week is the Nats trying folks out to see who emerges as starting prospects vs. late inning relievers vs. inning eater Ullman types.

I think Giolito is going to be promoted sooner rather than later. The team needs to know more of what they have in 2016, and getting him to AA will be informative, especially with Cole’s turning into a lost year and Jordan failing to erase misgivings. They need to establish the next three up and it seems those three are Roark, Ross, and Treinen. Lopez’ development will go slower. Others are not dominant. No lefty starters on the horizon. Where does Giolito fit in? Need to get him enough starts at AA. If he is good enough for the futures game, let’s figure that out.

There’s no reason to rush Robles. He’s still got a lot to learn in FLA . . . like English. Plus he would feel terribly out of place with all the college boys in central NY.

I agree that I thought Stevenson and Wiseman might start in Hagerstown. Since Stevenson didn’t, though, time will tell with Wiseman. I do imagine that the Nats will try to push some of the young arms who do well in Auburn on to Hagerstown soon enough to free up some space. Rivera and Glover in particular seem to have had strong outings.

As I noted on Todd’s site, I don’t see what about Schrock was worth $500K, but I’d be glad for him to prove me wrong.

There is no need to rush anyone, but if he is hitting .500 after 20 games, he’s clearly not learning anything there, especially given the small number of teams.

There are many Latin players on Auburn. That’s not the issue. What will be an adjustment is playing in more variable weather.

Bryce Harper was a lot younger than everyone once, too. Youth is relative.

        1. Jeff says:
          July 2, 2015 at 4:22 pm

Severino matured in his first year in wet Hagerstown.
Eric Vonmeetren must have been Eric Fedde receiver @ UNLV???

      2. Forensicane says:
        July 1, 2015 at 4:54 pm

As for schrock, what matters right now is that when you pay a guy that much, you are not paying him to sit on the bench the same arguments will emerge on Perkins given his conspicuously slow start. But he’s been paid, so he plays and Agustin sits.

        1. Forensicane says:
          July 1, 2015 at 4:56 pm

Wiseman is a more advanced hitter. Draft level does not necessarily dictate placement, which is why Keller started higher than any 2014 draftee, out of the 17th round.

  5. forensicane says:

sorry, typo. remains to be seen whether Ripken, Dent, Jefferies are more than OG with bloodlines who know to play the game and bring their dads in for informal coaching staff. They sure did stay on Jefferies.

This is the time of year when I don’t generally know the players released, which is a good thing.
The ones you’re following that are released are the ones that hurt.

Is it me, or are our teams winning a lot more these days.

Again , Gil, agree with all said
Yes in the lefties audition that explains seeing Bach
In both taking bump in IP one and emergency
Second guy in a bad start for another guy . Mills
Recently for auburn and crownover several nights
    Ago .
Gil, your hunch might be right about how brass
Treats the need for two OFs @ hags in next
Month. Wiseman , Stevenson, Robles maybe even
Encarnacion or Gilberto M or just W Rodrieguez
    Back down.
Very interesting to see how brass pushes the cream
    Of drafts 14/15.
Continue to add opinions , Gil.
Each night is a new bit of brass intentions .

  8. Jeff says:
    July 1, 2015 at 7:56 pm

Gil. The next transport into hagerstown could
Include USC Angelo DeBruno since he is hitting
Good all RH playing both hot corners
So Anderson has Meiija and Dent to play OF..
Yes, Gil, crash auditions @ auburn and GCL.

Matt Purke does have a way of keeping us from giving up on him. Impressive that he has kept the walks down and making it through the lineups twice.

And perhaps tonight will seal the Giolito move. I hope so.

Puzzling why Joe Ross goes down to Syracuse and shows up with one strikeout in five innings? Hmm…Maybe he is experimenting….

Ladies and gentlemen, Kevin Keyes! (How long will this last)?

The international signing window opens today (2nd July) – per fangraphs, the top rated prospects (and their possible destinations, based on pre-window gossip) are here:

Interestingly, the Nats are projected to pick up Juan Soto for $1.5m – their biggest spending in years……
