Syracuse 6 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 4 (13 inn.)

• Martin (W, 4-4) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Valverde (SV, 6) 1IP, 2H, R, ER, 0BB, 0K
• Turner 3-5, 2R, BB, SB
• Ramsey 3-5, R

The Chiefs won for the fourth time in five games with a 6-4 extra-innings win over the RailRiders. James Simmons got the spot start in place of Taylor Hill but was tracked for three runs on four hits and a walk over four innings. Four relievers combined to shut down Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for eight innings to set up Syracuse’s comeback in the 13th. Rafael Martin got the win while Jose Valverde Cordero’ed his way to a sixth save. Trea Turner and Caleb Ramsey both went 3-for-5 to lead the Chiefs’ attack.
Roster move: RHP Taylor Hill recalled to Washington; RHP Taylor Jordan optioned from Washington.

Harrisburg 3 Richmond 1
• Bates (W, 4-0) 6IP, 6H, R, ER, 0BB, 5K
• Suero (H, 1) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Lee (SV, 1) 1IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 2K, WP
• Dykstra 2-2, R, 2BB, SB
• Vettleson 2-4
• Skole 1-3, R, BB, HR, 3RBI

Harrisburg’s long climb to .500 was reached with a 3-1 victory over Richmond. Matt Skole’s Earl Weaver special in the 1st would be all the Senators would get, but thanks to a three-pitcher shutout, it would be all they would need. Colin Bates earned his fourth win with six hits allowed over six innings. Wander Suero got the hold with two scoreless innings. Nick Lee worked around a walk and a single in the 9th for the save. Cutter Dykstra reached base four times with two singles and two walks to lead the eight-hit, six-walk offense.
Roster move: RHP Nick Pivetta promoted from Potomac

Potomac vs. Lynchburg — PPD
Rain washed out Game Two of the three-game series between the Hillcats and P-Nats. They’ll shoot to make it up this afternoon with doubleheader.
Roster moves: RHP Austen Williams, LHP Matt Purke promoted from Hagerstown.

Hagerstown 6 Lakewood 3
• Reyes (W, 4-5) 5IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 6K
• Glover 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Mejia 2-5, 2R, 2HR, 3RBI
• Carey 2-4, R, BB

Hagerstown went deep three times to defeat Delmarva, 4-1. Luis Reyes went the first five innings and allowed just one, no walks, and struck out six to earn his fourth win. Newcomer Koda Glover struck out three before giving way to Deion Williams, who lost the shutout with run given up in the 8th. Austin Davidson got the Suns on the board first with a solo shot in the 3rd. Two batters later, Bryan Mejia hit a two-run shot, then added a second big fly in the 5th. Mejia, D.K. Carey, and “Orange” Marmolejos-Diaz each had two hits as Hagerstown notched 10 hits total.
Roster moves: RHPs Jose Morales and Koda Glover reassigned from Auburn; SS Osvaldo Abreu placed on the 7-Day DL; C Jake Mayers activated from the 7-Day DL.

Batavia 4 Auburn 1

• Lee 2IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• Page 2-4, 2B, RBI
• Stevenson 2-4

The ‘Dogs mucked up Taylor Hearn’s NYPL debut, scoring in each of the first three innings en route to a 4-1 victory over the Doubledays. Hearn would give up six hits, walk one, but strike out six over four innings in the loss. After a leadoff single by Andrew Stevenson in the 1st, Auburn wouldn’t get its second hit until one out in the 7th. Matthew Page’s RBI double in the 9th broke up the shutout bid. Page and Stevenson would both go 2-for-4 on the night.
Roster moves: OF Rhett Wiseman and LHP Taylor Guilbeau reassigned from GCL Nationals.

I guess with Span ailing and Desi flailing (insert Walt Frazier reference here), we will be hearing a Trea Turner for lead off in DC groundswell from Jim Bowden soon enough, if not here.

Never say never, particularly with all the injuries, but it would really surprise me. First of all, the Nats don’t want to start the FA clock on Turner early unless there is a real emergency. Second, so far, he only has two extra-base hits in AAA, to go with two errors, so there is still plenty he can learn in the IL. Also, the Nats already have a strong alternative to Desmond in Espinoza . . . if they can get Escobar and Rendon healthy so Espi can actually play SS. It would be a very, very tough clubhouse situation to bring up a rookie to displace a healthy Desi. As I said, never say never, but it would surprise me.

What no one realizes is that this free agency clock thing is outdated. The coming influx of Cuban talent, the economics of Tommy John casualties, and the expansion of international talent otherwise are shifting personnel management strategies. You lock up players like Bryce Harper and the most elite, and the you fill up your pipeline with star replacements (or trade fodder) for even all-stars. Baseball is changing faster than you realize. If Rizzo decides Trea Turner is a player you win a world series with, the clock is immaterial. Unless he is an elite player, he will one day be flipped (or allowed to leave) to make room for, say, some guy who is 15 years old and in Panama right now. That’s just where the game is going. Rizzo is not going to let this team become the Expos, with players hitting their walk years without a two deep well entrenched in the system.

Gil, in some ways the Nats are floating in a more luxury expo air as
That MASN count case strings out.
Interesting tools of ignorance caddie promotion. :
Manuel to Cuse and Reisstter to Potnats . That says
    Catch the load , Read!
    Another lefty bat for Potnats.

Permanent not just for potomAc DH?

Any word on how much Wiseman signed for? According to my rough calculations, we should still have at least $350k remaining.

Besides Schrock, did we go way over slot on anyone else?

It’s very interesting that Giolito still hasn’t gotten the nod for a promotion. For as good as Pivetta has been, Gio’s been even better. Lucas has actually gotten better since last season. His Ks are up and his walks are down. He’s given up more hits, but they’re much less damaging. He gave up 7 HRs last season but has remarkably yet to this year. It looks like the increase in hits is just a product of having a bad defense behind him, as batters are only have a .081 ISO vs him (vs .101 last season).

  7. Forensicane says:

I think the Giolito delay is procedural, and related to his appearing in the futures game. After the ASB, let’s see where things are, including in the Harrisburg rotation. Don’t forget Brian Rauh coming back.

Rauh rah raj raj boom dee A3??? Lol!

  9. Jeff says:

Maybe that $300g from Boston came in handy
    For Miller???

  10. Jeff says:

GG. Spot on. Late July we will be going to burg
To watch G force in senator uniform with a better
    Bullpen behind him. .
Geez one would think some of our fellow Nats
Fans time the pancake delivery to the table from
The hot plate!! Lol! Lucas is in no hurry. Why should we?

  11. Forensicane says:
    July 9, 2015 at 12:10 pm

You betcha. They’ve been clear. “We will not overspend! If we need more, we make a trade.” Quite an ROI and additional windfall for quantity signing.

  12. Jeff says:

Big G on GCL has not had a single AB. Outplayed
    By the quartet OF.

  13. Forensicane says:
    July 9, 2015 at 1:37 pm

Maybe he has back spanns and is not quite DL. Hard to explain no at bats when your competition is hitting 125

  14. Jeff says:
    July 9, 2015 at 2:12 pm

Somebody in Viera is reading this site like
    John Dean 1974. Lol
Sanchez to sens for infield depth.
Cody Dent OG to Potnats to give Tripp some depth
And turn the page ( Bob Segar) to flesh out OF.
W Rodrieguez gives some leather off bench .
So Page not Stevenson to hagerstown for rest
Of season or until the battle over number 3
    Ends in auburn. Lol!
Let’s keep tabs on Gardner and Page numbers from
    Here on out .
    Thoughts , Luke??

The domino effect after Stevenson gets bumped
To Hagerstown should be Victor Robles to Auburn
Along with Brian Langlois to be sure he is still
      Around after XST.

Don’t forget that Rafael Bautista will be heading to Potomac shortly…..

  15. Jeff says:

Kirkie. I am thinking about hagerstown
But PotomAc can use Raffie and Mesa together .
