• Keyes 4-5, 3R, 2HR, 5RBI
• Mastroianni 2-4, R, BB

Kevin Keyes (4-for-5, 3R) went deep twice and drove in five as the Chiefs broke the Bats, 10-1 to take the series, 2-1. Joe Ross won his first AAA game with five innings of one-run ball, though that one run did come on a home run. Scott McGregor finished with four scoreless to earn the save, his first of 2015 and the second of his career. Trea Turner also homered while Mario Lisson joined Keyes in reaching base four times with a single and three walks.
Harrisburg 6 Richmond 5 (13 inn.)
• Bacus 6⅓ IP, 6H, 5R, 4ER, 3BB, 4K, 2HR
• Runion (W, 2-0) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• Skole 4-6, R, 2B, HR, BB, 2RBI
• Severino 2-6, 2B, RBI
• Goodwin 2-7, R, 2B
Matt Skole’s fourth hit of the ballgame was a walkoff RBI double to give the Senators an eighth straight win by a 6-5 score in 13 innings against the Flying Squirrels. The 25-y.o. CI singled twice and homered once while hitting safely for the sixth time in the past seven games. The “W” went to Sam Runion for pitching a scoreless top of the 13th. Dakota Bacus started and went the first six and a 1/3rd innings, allowing all five Richmond runs on six hits, including two homers.
Austin Voth, Paul Demny and Pedro Severino were named to the Eastern League All-Star game, which will be played on July 15th in Portland, ME.
Potomac 4 Frederick 0
• Barrett 1IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 2K
• Giolito (W, 3-4) 7IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 7K, 2HBP
• M. Rodriguez 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• Sanchez 2-4, 2B, RBI
• Kieboom 1-4, 2B, 2RBI
The P-Nats came up two outs short of a combined no-hitter to settle for a one-hit shutout of the Keys, 4-0. Rehabbing Aaron Barrett walked one and struck out two in his rehab inning in the 1st. Lucas Giolito followed with seven innings scoreless relief, walking one batter and hitting two while earning his third win. Manny Rodriguez gave up the lone hit with one out in the 9th but retired the next two batters to preserve the whitewash. Reigning Carolina Player of the Week Adrian Sanchez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double to lead the Potomac offense.
Roster moves: RHP Aaron Barrett added to roster for MLB rehab.
Greensboro 3 Hagerstown 0
• Purke 5IP, 5H, 0R, BB, 2K
• Williams 3IP, 2H, 0R, 2BB, 2K
• Orlan (L, 2-1) 1IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, K
• Reistetter 2-4, PO at 2B
• Abreu 0-2, 2BB
Greensboro broke through for all three of its runs in the 9th as they shut out Hagerstown, 3-0. R.C. Orlan was dinged for all three runs on four hits in his single inning. Matt Purke started and turned in five scoreless innings, letting up five hits, no walks, and striking out two. Deion Williams followed with three scoreless innings of relief, putting on four baserunners with two hits and two walks. Matt Reistetter singled twice and Osvaldo Abreu walked twice as the only Suns batters to reach base twice.
Williamsport 6 Auburn 5 (11 inn.)
• Dickey 5IP, 3H, R, ER, 3BB, K
• Brinley (L, 0-1) 1+ IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 0K, HR
• Reetz 2-5, 2R, 3K
• Gutierrez 2-6, 2-2B, RBI
The Doubledays ‘pen blew a 4-1 lead in the 8th and coughed up the game-winning HR in the 11th as they lost to the Crosscutters, 5-4. Starter Robbie Dickey allowed one run over five innings on three hits and three walks for the no-decision. Ryan Brinley took the loss on the one hit he allowed over one-plus innings. Jakson Reetz went 2-for-5 with two runs scored while Kelvin Gutierrez doubled twice to lead the Auburn attack.
Lots of stuff to like here, topped by Giolito’s seven no-hit innings. Perhaps they will be able to think about pushing him to Harrisburg with a couple of more starts like that. Ross got his first AAA win (AFTER getting an MLB win) and Turner went yard for his first AAA hit. Skole, Goodwin, and Severino are all showing signs of life at the plate. And big kudos to Purke for a solid bounce-back start after getting shelled the last time out.
I sound like a drugged lunatic in Orwells 1984; Gil Grissom once again you are correct!
Push the talent up from Auburn and see the auditions play out. like in a Broadway show practice: and a 1,2,3,4……
Do I need a Pink Floyd enhanced lunatic fringe padded cell in reaction to quipping that Jeffries, Schrock, and Carlin favorite
name from draft A. DeBruna all could audition on hags by Sept 1st@ hags???????
Interesting bio and 40 man roster placement Matt ^Pirro whose father and grandfather have names in baseball history ( aka
baseball reference)!!!!
i am over these rain delays churnning the rotation for matty9 not to mention the phhhin phillies rain delay tactic the
other day churnning Gio and matty9 insides. no wonder the phils are in last phhlace.
have you ever seen so many LH bats in a lineup as in Harrisburg?? lol!
Keyes in cuse could be a fun 2b/HR watch. never thought he would make it to AAA.
cue some yes for RIP Chris Squire!
I completely agree with the surprise about Keyes at AAA. More power to him. He’s always had the pop . . . if he managed to connect.
I was thinking Keyes was projecting to be a Dave Kingman/Rob Deer player for awhile.
Sure hope whatever he’s doing doesn’t stop, could be really exciting.
I believe today teams can start signing International free agents. Anyone hear anything about who the Nats may be targeting?
I saw that they were in on someone named Juan Soto, but otherwise they will go for quantity instead of perceived highest quality.
1.9 million pool and 1.5 on soto. That’s says it all
Here’s Kiley McDaniel’s list. Soto is the only one for whom the Nats are listed as the frontrunner:
http://www.fangraphs.com/scoutboard.aspx?draft=2015int&type=0&pos=all
Soto (BA ranks him #13) did sign for what I believe is the Nats 1st international $1million + bonus since Smiley Gonzalez!
Reputed $1.5 Million

Also signed Cristian Guzman’s nephew for $200k.

Apparently the Nats have in fact landed Juan Soto:

soto must jump ahead of all the lefty swinging guys on DSL and GCL????
Guzmán on Auburn is a revelation.
Harrisburg to Sept. would need Voth, Lucas and the lefties to just go QS for 6 weeks.
Gil???
I’m almost afraid to get too hopeful with any of the flashes, but Skole’s movement upward has been slow and steady. I’ve always been a big fan of his clutch power.
There will be no September for Harrisburg. If the Nats want to get a look at him against more meaningful competition, and with enough starts under his belt, now is the time to bump him up.
Skole since he was compared to Jim Thome has sunk into a AL prospect for me unless NL gets DH overnight full time.
Clint Robinson at least can play some RF with 34 injuries.
I look forward to farm when true OFs can play corners not utility IFs.
Reetz is not going to get switched in the near future. No way. They are counting him to pass everybody on the pecking order in due time unless Severino’s bat plays up like it did at the end of last year. Until his bat forces him into a position switch, and it hasn’t, they will focus him on learning the tools of ignorance.
My error above about promotion. I was referring to Giolito promotion. Now is the time, to get him enough starts in Harrisburg before their season ends after August. Then they will have a better feel for how he fits into the 2016 discussion.
As for Skole, he has a lot of convincing to do, still. But he’s fun to root for, the “large animal.” His power pedigree was more than Robinson’s he just has not recaptured it.
Robles has the arm for RF if CF is clogged. Encarnacion’s clock is ticking. It may not happen for him.
Agreeing Encarnacion. So many big kids stall before A minus
We can use all the big animals in burg ban box
I guess OG Dent will play RF much in hags for rest of season .
my internet @ this PC is sketchy so quick thought: play Jakson Reetz in OF several times a week. Tillero and RR
can catch bulk of week. His arm can suit RF much like Gary Carter in RF for expos during Barry Foote years before
trade to Phils.
Gil, impressions? Hagerstown could use a strong armed RF with punch not named Randy Encarnación!!
Congrats to Kelvin G in Auburn hitting his first pro HR for Auburn vs. B Clones.
Read back in action in a few days??
what is the story with a Rice alum suchas Chase McDowell being on the restricted list. arent those
guys good older Boy Scouts????? LOL!
again. what is the story with Pepperdine alum Langlois stalled in XST??
