The IronPigs answered the Chiefs two-run rally in the 5th with two of their own to go up 4-2 and held on for a 4-3 win. Paolo Espino became the latest victim of the GBI curse as the “G” took the “L” with all four runs allowed on seven hits and a walk over five innings.
Paul Demny and Blake Treinen combined for three scoreless and six strikeouts to keep the game close. Rehabbing Jayson Werth drove in the aforementioned two runs with a two-out double and went 3-for-4 overall to lead the Syracuse offense, which collected 10 hits total.

Drew Vettleson’s two-out walkoff shot was the difference as the Sens edged the BaySox, 3-2. Austin Voth labored through five shutout innings on 87 pitches, walking three, striking out four, and giving up four hits. The win went to Gilberto Mendez, who came on in the 8th and gave up the tying run in the top of the 9th. Vettleson also singled as did Isaac Ballou twice to pace the Harrisburg attack.

The P-Nats were just 1-for-11 with RISP so it should come as no surprise to learn that the gamewinner came in on a passed ball in the 9th for a 3-2 win over the Red Sox. The miscue made a winner out of Derek Self, who had pitched a 1-2-3 eighth, while Manny Rodriguez matched the feat in the 9th for his fourth save. Reynaldo Lopez started and turned in seven innings of two-run ball, walking three and striking out four. The P-Nats hit parade was led by Rafael Bautista, who turned three singles into three doubles via three stolen bases, though he failed to score a run.

The Power, um, surged for four runs in the late innings to turn a 2-2 tie into a 6-2 win over the Suns. Brian Rauh started and went the first five innings, letting in two runs on three hits and three walks while fanning six. Luis Torres “earned” the loss with four runs charged on five hits and three walks over two-plus innings. “Orange” Marmolejos-Diaz led the Hagerstown hit parade with three singles in four trips to the plate.

Auburn took advantage of sloppy defense and pitching to take 5-3 decision from Lowell. Robbie Dickey made his first appearance in more than three weeks, turning in two innings but giving up a run on two hits and two walks. The Doubleday bullpen combined for seven innings of one-run ball, led by Grant Borne, who earned the win with one run allowed on four hits and two walks. Offensively, the trio of Jakson Reetz, Ian Sagdal, and Dalton Dulin combined for four hits, four runs, four walks, and three stolen bases.
GCL Update
After winning five of six the week before to get to .500, the G-Nats dropped all five this week to fall back into the GCL East cellar with a 12-17 mark. That’s roughly three games off their Pythagorean projection, though the G-Nats are just about league average in the three major phases (4.28 R/G vs. 4.20 batting; 4.34 R/G vs. 4.21 R/G pitching; .964 FA vs. 964 FA).
DSL Update
The D-Nats are 22-26 after a 3-3 week and will need to go 15-9 down the stretch to finish above .500. Seventeen-year-old Colombian Robert Medina has emerged as the team leader in OPS at .823 though he’s played in just 16 games. Nineteen-year-old Francys Peguero and 18-y.o. Pedro Avila continue to pile up the K’s, with Peguero second in the DSL with a 14.1 K/9IP rate and Avila fourth with 55K’s in 39IP (12.7/9IP).
