Paolo Espino got the win with a quality start of three runs on five hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Rafael Martin turned in two scoreless for his fifth hold while Jose Valverde pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save, his tenth. Nelson also doubled and walked twice to lead the Syracuse offense, followed by Kevin Keyes’s 2-for-3 effort with two runs scored.

Nick Pivetta took the loss, giving up all seven runs on seven hits, including two home runs. He walked two and struck out one. Bryan Harper and Sam Runion both turned in two scoreless innings of relief. Newcomer Reegie Corona cashed in a pair of one-out walks in the 5th with a two-run double to lead the Harrisburg offense, which was held to five hits total.

Justin Amlung followed with a bullpen-saving four innings of one-hit relief. Grant DeBruin broke up the no-hitter with a two-out single in the 7th. The loss was Potomac’s fifth straight and the sixth time they’ve been blanked this season.

The Suns scorched Intimidators pitchers for 14 hits in a 9-4 win to set up a possible series split this afternoon. Brian Rauh made his first appearance north of Florida in two months with four innings of one-run ball on one hit and one walk with two whiffs. David Napoli pitched the 5th and 6th without a score to earn the win, his fourth. Osvaldo Abreu and Matt Reistetter both had three hits to lead the Hagerstown attack.

West Virginia struck for four in the 1st and three in the 3rd en route to an 8-5 triumph over Auburn. Mariano Rivera III failed to go four innings for the third straight start, dinged for all seven runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out two over three innings.
Three relievers combined for six innings of one-run ball, led by Luis Torres (3IP), but the offense fell short. Victor Robles went 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBI in his NYPL debut while Rhett Wiseman homered for the third time to lead the Doubledays offense.
Roster move: OF Victor Robles reassigned from GCL Nationals.
Auburn is obviously too easy for Robles, so keep him moving to Hagerstown! Another HR for Wiseman as well. It’s good to see some young bats showing some promise.
Rough night for Pivetta, Lopez, and Rivera, though.
I saw something somewhere that said de los Santos may be getting the call from the big club.
The deLos Santos promotion speaks to 1) a lack of confidence in other options 2) the organization getting away from plugging starters into relief roles 3) ongoing trade discussions are going to involve relief pitchers
His numbers are good, but he has not attracted an appreciation beyond those numbers, even here. Mendez is the primary closer, and he has let his fair share of inherited runners score. With other 40 man options who are doing well (Rafael Martin) available, it sounds like they are also looking for some high velocity bullpen help to go along with the Jansen-Barrett crew while Carpenter mends.
This minor league regime definitely promotes more aggressively.
What happened to AJ Cole? Rizzo seems to fall out of favor with guys fairly quickly – Cole, Martin, and Grace were all options that were on the 40 man. Surprised to see them give a 40 man spot to AdlS.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Nationals preferred to keep Cole stretched out as a starter rather than bounce him back and forth between starting in AAA and the bullpen in MLB.
I think the “fall out of favor” is more a reflection of Williams. They cut Cedeno loose altogether at the beginning of the year after using him several times and he then went to a first place team. Very different from how Detwiler stewed until they got value for him.
All that bouncing around could harm RoArk
Or Cole
Are you kidding me? O Abreau comes off the
DL deck hacking !!!
I still like Lora all around game like Abreau .
Lora hagerstown 2016.
Something to think about. Desmond has had such a flat
Year that any hit streak with bat could be Nats
Difference between 3 and ten games up!
GG. Robles has cooled off. Yes he went to cooler
Auburn from viera. !! Lol!!
