Paolo Espino made but one mistake — a three-run HR to Buffalo’s Caleb Gindl in the 2nd — but it was enough for Syracuse to lose, 3-2. The Venezuelan veteran gave up six hits total, walked two, and struck out six over six innings. Matt Grace and Evan Meek both turned in a scoreless inning to keep the game close. Jason Martinson — Syracuse’s representative at the 2015 I.L. All-Star Game — doubled in both Chiefs runs in the 3rd and went 2-for-4 overall to lead the offense.

Harrisburg’s bid for a ninth straight win fell short when Richmond went deep in the 9th for 2-0 victory. Wander Suero served up a two-run shot with one down in his third inning of relief to suffer the loss. Austin Voth tossed six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and three walks while setting down five on strikes in his seventh no-decision. Wilmer Difo singled twice, Shawn Pleffner doubled once, but the rest of the lineup was hitless with pinch-hitter Jose Lozada accounting for the fourth Senators hit.

Potomac’s more modest streak of four wins was also stopped last night as Frederick rallied for two in the 8th for a 4-3 win. Reynaldo Lopez turned in his best outing of the season with seven innings of two-run ball on five hits and no walks while striking out seven. Derek Self took the loss as let in the deciding runs on three hits, including a HR. Alec Keller singled, doubled, and scored a run while John Wooten launched his 5th big fly to pace the P-Nats attack.

The tables were turned at the Muni as the Suns blanked the Grasshoppers, 5-0. Connor Bach and Andrew Cooper combined on the two-hit shutout, with Bach giving up both Greensboro hits and three walks over the first six innings for the win, and Cooper closing it out with just a hit batsman over the final three. Osvaldo Abreu went 4-for-4 with a double to lead the Suns hit column while Bryan Mejia and D.K. Carey both homered to account for the final four Hagerstown runs.

The Crosscutters scored in four of the first five innings en route to a 6-1 victory over the Doubledays. Starter and loser Jefry Rodriguez was knocked around for five runs (four earned) over that stretch on nine hits and two walks while striking out four as he lost for the second time for Auburn and seventh time in 2015. Ian Sagdal drove in the lone Auburn run as the Doubledays were held to just three hits and three walks total.
