The Chiefs plucked the Mud Hens for six runs early, then answered a four-run rally in the top of the 6th with one of their own in the bottom of the 6th en route to a 13-5 victory. Josh Johnson was the beer man, as he was the sole starter not to march in Syracuse’s 19-hit parade, which was led by Caleb Ramsey’s 4-for-5 afternoon. Darin Mastroianni, Emmanuel Burris, and Jason Martinson each had three hits with Mastroianni and Burris both homering. P.J. Walters won for the second time in three starts, but was charged for four runs on five hits and two walks over five and a 1/3rd innings while striking out three.

Richmond scored single runs in the 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th innings and held off a late charge to hand Harrisburg a 4-3 loss. Trea Turner drove in two with a two-out single in the 7th and put himself into scoring position with a steal but was stranded. In the 9th, he doubled with two outs and made it to third before watching the final out. He finished the matinee at 3-for-5 to lead the Sens’ 10-hit attack. Some guy named Stephen Strasburg took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks while striking out six.

The P-Nats pitchers high-wired through six innings, trying to make a 1-0 lead stand up despite putting multiple baserunners on, until the Hillcats finally broke through for two in the 7th for the eventual 2-1 score. Lucas Giolito labored through four innings, lifted after 86 pitches as he let up five hits, walked four, and struck out six. The loss went to Justin Thomas, who gave up the tying and winning runs and five hits total over two innings. Combined, the three P-Nats pitchers walked nine and gave up 10 hits. Offensively, Potomac was held to four hits with the lone run coming on back-to-back doubles in the 2nd by Spencer Kieboom and Drew Ward.

Hagerstown broke out for three in the 11th to take this one, 4-1. A single, sacrifice, and another single plated the go-ahead run while back-to-back doubles put the game away. The win went to R.C. Orlan, who struck out five of the six batters he faced in two perfect innings of relief. Jake Walsh set the side down in order in the 11th for his second save. Austen Williams started and gave up an unearned run over six innings on four hits while walking none and fanning three. Jeff Gardner went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI to lead the Suns offense.
