Syracuse 13 Toledo 5

• Meek 1⅓ IP, 0H, R, ER, BB, K
• Ramsey 4-5, 2R, 3B, RBI
• Burriss 3-5, 3R, HR, 4RBI
• Mastroianni 3-5, 3R, HR, 2RBI, SB

The Chiefs plucked the Mud Hens for six runs early, then answered a four-run rally in the top of the 6th with one of their own in the bottom of the 6th en route to a 13-5 victory. Josh Johnson was the beer man, as he was the sole starter not to march in Syracuse’s 19-hit parade, which was led by Caleb Ramsey’s 4-for-5 afternoon. Darin Mastroianni, Emmanuel Burris, and Jason Martinson each had three hits with Mastroianni and Burris both homering. P.J. Walters won for the second time in three starts, but was charged for four runs on five hits and two walks over five and a 1/3rd innings while striking out three.
Roster move: RHP Mitch Lively released (signed with Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters).

Richmond 4 Harrisburg 3
• Strasburg (L, 0-1) 5IP, 4H, 2R, 1ER, 0BB, 6K
• Solis 1IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Turner 3-5, 2B, 2RBI, SB
• Dykstra 2-4, R, HR, RBI

Richmond scored single runs in the 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th innings and held off a late charge to hand Harrisburg a 4-3 loss. Trea Turner drove in two with a two-out single in the 7th and put himself into scoring position with a steal but was stranded. In the 9th, he doubled with two outs and made it to third before watching the final out. He finished the matinee at 3-for-5 to lead the Sens’ 10-hit attack. Some guy named Stephen Strasburg took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks while striking out six.
Roster move: RHP Stephen Strasburg assigned from Washington for MLB rehab.

Lynchburg 2 Potomac 1
• Giolito 4IP, 5H, 0R, 4BB, 6K
• Thomas (BS, 2; L, 0-4) 2IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, BB, 2K
• Kieboom 1-4, R, 2B
• Ward 1-4, 2B, RBI

The P-Nats pitchers high-wired through six innings, trying to make a 1-0 lead stand up despite putting multiple baserunners on, until the Hillcats finally broke through for two in the 7th for the eventual 2-1 score. Lucas Giolito labored through four innings, lifted after 86 pitches as he let up five hits, walked four, and struck out six. The loss went to Justin Thomas, who gave up the tying and winning runs and five hits total over two innings. Combined, the three P-Nats pitchers walked nine and gave up 10 hits. Offensively, Potomac was held to four hits with the lone run coming on back-to-back doubles in the 2nd by Spencer Kieboom and Drew Ward.

Hagerstown 4 Kannapolis 1 (11 inn.)
• Williams 6IP, 4H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 3K
• Orlan (W, 2-0) 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 5K
• Walsh (SV, 2) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Gardner 2-5, 2B, RBI, CS
• Masters 1-3, 2BB

Hagerstown broke out for three in the 11th to take this one, 4-1. A single, sacrifice, and another single plated the go-ahead run while back-to-back doubles put the game away. The win went to R.C. Orlan, who struck out five of the six batters he faced in two perfect innings of relief. Jake Walsh set the side down in order in the 11th for his second save. Austen Williams started and gave up an unearned run over six innings on four hits while walking none and fanning three. Jeff Gardner went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI to lead the Suns offense.

Anyone hear who we have signed so far? On Baseball America site it lists Guilbeau, but I also read the Rivera and Perkins have signed.

When does GCL and NY-Penn league start?

Signings for the top 10 rounds:

    http://m.mlb.com/news/article/130246508/2015-draft-signing-and-bonus-tracker

Stevenson and Wiseman hasn’t been able to sign because of the CWS. I was surprised to see that Perkins signed for under slot.

The only top 10 pick who isn’t either still playing in CWS who hasn’t signed is the Oklahoma State guy Glover. They’ve saved a ton of money so far; like $379k that I can tell, and the top 10 picks who havn’t signed yet probably also project as slot or under. So I wonder if they’re saving pennies for a 100k+ signing in round 11 onward…

I was in Harrisburg yesterday and saw a lot of the game. I was hanging out above the Senators bullpen and talked a guy who is the Host family for the three Dominicans in Harrisburg (Wilmer Difo (SS), Pedro Severino (C), and Giberto Mendez (RHP, Closer)….The guy had wonderful things to say about the three guys who were living at his house. High Character, fun loving people. The three Dominicans are all very close to each other. Difo has been out of the starting line up since Trea Turner arrived and the organization has not spoken to him what is next. Severino really wanted to catch Strass, but wasn’t allowed to (Day game after a night game). Mendez is performing really well as the Harrisburg closer even though his name isn’t on many prospect lists.

Great scoop on the Dominicans at Harrisburg. If Difo isn’t hurt and Cutter is starting ahead of him at 2B, I’m really perplexed at what is going on. Even if he is part of trade discussions, he’d still be playing. Heck, if I were a potential trade partner, I’d want to know why he’s not playing.

FWIW, Severino caught Gio Gonzalez in his rehab start at Potomac last year. They seemed to have a good time together, although Gio got bombed.

Interesting to chart how the top three farm affiliates
Play win/ loss after the promotions / demotions .
Syracuse should be even more oiled once den Dekker
Returns on ryan or jason ‘s activation from DL.
      Who concurs in this ?

    Paul. Late June .
I have always like Mendez .
Who would have thought the syracuse promotions
Would put petro in chiefs offense compared
    To burg ??
Come on Fister. Right the ship!!

Flash forward a couple of weeks. I was shouted down when I suggested that by the end of the year, Turner might be the top prospect in the Nats system, including Giolito. Not so far fetched….

Also anticipate Difo headed up a level to play SS at AAA. The Nats need to take a hard look at both for one position in 2016. The idea of a Difo-Turner combo presupposes that Escobar-Rendon-Espinosa simply disappear. Methinks there is only one position up for grabs. The only problem is that Difo has forgotten to take a walk. But he was the spark at Harrisburg.

No way they promoted Bostick to play LF. And no way they demoted Dykstra to make Difo sit. No way. The organization is just clearing the decks (in progress) and easing Dykstra’s fall from grace. Although this year is the most unstable promoting-demoting I ever recall seeing in following the Nats. Not just the pitchers, but the position players. There is just so much herky-jerky, especially at the lower levels. Perhaps the way the dust settles is Martinson 3B-Difo SS-Hague 2b-Keyes 1B. Then, Skole-Turner-Bostick-Pleffner.

I did not see the Keyes-Hague kick coming. Very clever — up-or-out, now-or-never to two players who SHOULD have made it there by now and stalled. But it makes sense – why have a retread potential power hitter like Kila or Minicozzi when you can have a Keyes bopper who either makes it or washes out of the organization by the end of the year? Why have a .180 second baseman with no power when you can have an IF-OF who certainly has the pedigree, as Hague did?

The organization is no way done. Wooten and Vettleson may have earned trading of places.

I don’t see a Difo trade coming, at least until they get a much better look at Turner for 2016. Difo is the leader among the Dominicans and important symbolically to keep around the house. But what do I know? I didn’t want them to trade Billy Burns, either. Burns is a winner, winner, winner. Well, so is Turner. That’s why we are going to love him.

Maybe the Nats are moving faster on the Turner track. It sounds like Rizzo had him rated higher than Fedde and that they wanted him really badly, and exploited the change in GM at SD to pry him loose. This Turner trade, much as I really like Souza, may be, beyond quality, a real testament to the kind of creative thinking that is on par with a contract to Scherzer that works tax wise and has all of baseball teed off that they didn’t think of it first. But it sound like Turner was the target, not Souza, and they figured out not only how to get him, but when (Incaviglia rule).

If that is the case, you had better believe that Turner has Ryan Zimmerman 2005 written all over him. As in, ready for the majors faster than the usual draft pick.

Lol! The Trea Turner trade might have been of the
Sour grapes in padre brass which took their
Angst out in BUD Black ? Poor guy. Great baseball
      Mind

Andy – thanks for the intel. It’s about time for Mick Reinhard to make an appearance.

  9. Jeff says:

Gil Grissom. I can agree with all you said
Except Vettleson heading to potomAc unless
The promotion is cat Ballou. Unless brass
Would like vettleson and cat book ending
    Somebody like DeBruin??

  10. Jeff says:

Gil I recall keyes @ hagerstown in a game @ Augusta
I took in with a friend who used to teach & Augusta
State. We both agreed K2 in the outfield was rather
Lax – remind ful of Gardner playing RF to give Keller ( not
    Calling Gardner lax @ all.
Either Keyes is bench thump or AL trade bait.
Gil, who is your first promotion from hagerstown ?
    Jose M or Keller??

  11. Jeff says:
    June 18, 2015 at 6:36 pm

Desmond and his contract begs for Turner ‘s
Baptism in EL fire then IL
I believe one does not just unload Difo and his
Skills for the next piece wanted for big club .
Looking forward to Wiseman, the Canadien
From Western Kentucky, Mel Rodrieguez and
Ian from WSU join the farm collection .
Now the lower A batch of OFs has a nice L/ R
Mix. But can they adjust to wood and mature
In brass eyes to hagerstown soon ???

  12. forensicane says:
    June 18, 2015 at 10:15 pm

I bet Keller goes before Orange Marm. Smart player who knows the game. Keller is the highest starting player from the ’14 draft and has not missed a beat. How soon is a mystery, though.

    I’m a Manny Rodriguez guy.

  13. forensicane says:

Keyes surprised many in Harrisburg last year on D. Much better than expected, but then, when expectations are lax….

He has light tower power, though. Just doesn’t endanger them often enough.

Is this the oddest auburn roster 24 hours before
NYPenn league opening night ? 9 guys everyday
From last year ? Or brass will add some Barrett boys
    From GCL?
Fireworks red in calendar @ hagerstown .
I guess getting Bach in blow out games like last night
Is a way to get guys stretched out as second starters
    For the night .
I would guess Alabama lefty will end up in auburn??
Gil Grissom thoughts or andy ??

  15. Jeff says:
    June 19, 2015 at 1:24 am

PS why do teams play in wet grass especially
With talent like Harper. If he is down for two weeks
Rizzo has to import a body.
Keyes and an arm for zobrist ?
