The Chiefs doubled their runs scored in the month of June and managed not to lose, stopping a 12-game slide with an 11-4 win over Pawtucket. P.J. Walters gave up three home runs and all four Pawtucket runs on four hits over seven innings. He struck out 10 and walked one to win his first start as a Chief. Rafael Martin threw two scoreless for just the second time this season while finishing the game. A seven-run 4th did the bulk of the damage as Syracuse pounded out 11 hits and drew six walks, with lineup bookends Darin Mastroianni leading the hit and walk columns with three apiece.

Matthew Spann made his case to stay at AA with seven inning of one-run ball, giving up an unearned run on five hits and two walks while setting down six on strikes. While he left with a 2-1 lead, it evaporated in the bottom of the 8th as the Thunder struck for five runs against Brian Dupra to send the Senators to a 6-2 loss. Derrick Robinson drove in Adrian Sanchez with a sacrifice fly in the 3rd and Kevin Keyes homered in the 4th but the Harrisburg offense was held to six hits and one walk (Sanchez)

Potomac put up two spots in back-to-back innings and three pitchers made it stand up for a 4-3 win over Salem. Nick Pivetta allowed all three Red Sox runs on six hits and no walks while fanning four over five innings. Wander Suero and Nick Lee combined four innings of scoreless relief to earn the hold and save respectively. John Wooten reached base four times with three singles and a walk to lead the P-Nats attack, followed by James Yezzo, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Hagerstown blew a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 8th but got the lead back in the 9th on a sacrifice fly to take Game 3 of the four-game series, 3-2. Drew Van Orden threw six scoreless innings but got the no-decision when Robbie Dickey sandwiched walks around an error, then gave up a two-run double. Justin Amlung stranded two runners while getting the last two outs of the 8th and had his single given up in the 9th erased on a caught stealing to end the game. Jorge Tillero, who replaced Matt Reistetter after he was ejected in the 4th along with four Greensboro players after D.K. Carey gunned down a runner at the plate, led the Suns attack with a 2-for-3 night.

DSL Update
The D-Nats were 3-4 in their first week of play, lowlighted by a 22-7 demolition yesterday. Thus far, it appears that there are just a few holdovers as the Nats have gotten dramatically younger with the lowest average age for batters (17.6) and the third-youngest set of pitchers.
