Columbus 4 Syracuse 2
• Walters (L, 1-1) 5+ IP, 5H, 4R, 4ER, 3BB, 3K
• Martin 2IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 3K, 2-2 IR-S
• Dykstra 2-2, 2BB, RBI
• Minicozzi 2-5, R, HR, RBI

The Clippers put up three in the 6th as they sailed past the Chiefs 4-2 in the series opener. Starter P.J. Walters took the loss, giving up all four Columbus runs on five hits and three walks over five-plus innings. Cutter Dykstra singled twice and walked twice to lead the Syracuse offense, which registered nine hits and four walks total but stranded 11 baserunners on the night.
Roster moves: LHP Rich Hill activated from the 7-Day DL, RHP Mitch Lively placed on the 3-Day TIL.

Harrisburg 4 Trenton 2
• Fister 6IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4K, HBP
• Bates (W, 2-0) 2IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, BB, 0K, HR
• Skole 2-4, R, HR(10), 4RBI
• Goodwin 0-2, R, 2BB, 2K, SB

Matt Skole drove in all four Harrisburg runs in a 4-2 win over Trenton. The 25-y.o. corner infielder homered for the 10th time in the 7th and to give the Sens a 2-0 lead, then connected for two-run single with two outs in the 8th to plate the winning runs. Doug Fister tossed six shutout innings in a rehab start but did not receive a decision. That went to Colin Bates who got the benefit of Sens’ 8th inning response to the two runs he allowed in the top of the 8th. Gilberto Mendez shook off a leadoff single to record three outs in the 9th and earn his fifth save.
Roster moves: RHP Doug Fister assigned from Washington for MLB rehab; RHP Hector Ambriz released.

Potomac 4 Frederick 1
• Giolito (W, 2-4) 6⅓ IP, 8H, R, ER, BB, 5K
• Lee (H, 2) 1⅔ IP, 0H, 0R, BB, K
• Martinez 3-3, R, 2B, BB, SB
• S. Perez 2-4, 2B, 3B, RBI, SB

Potomac scored three times in the 5th to overcome an early 1-0 deficit en route to a 4-1 win over Frederick. Lucas Giolito pitched into the 7th for second time in seven starts, perhaps not coincidentally winning both times. The 20-y.o. scattered eight hits, walked one, and struck out five over six and a 1/3rd innings. Potomac racked up nine hits, four walks, and five steals with Estarlin Martinez going 3-for-3 with a walk and a double to lead the charge.

Lakewood 8 Hagerstown 7
• Baez 5IP, 7H, 5R, 5ER, BB, 3K, HR
• Dickey (BS, 2; L, 0-2) 2IP, 1H, 2R, 0ER, BB, K
• Keller 3-5, R, 3B, 2RBI
• Carey 2-2, R, 3BB
• Marmolejos-Diaz 2-4, SF, 3RBI

Hagerstown came back from a 4-1 deficit to take a 6-4 lead but the ‘pen couldn’t stop Lakewood in an 8-7 loss. Joan Baez was pinched for five runs on seven hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out three in the no-decision. The loss went to Robbie Dickey, who let in an unearned run in his second inning of work. Alec Keller tripled once and singled twice while D.K. Carey reach based five times with three walks and two singles as the Suns scorched Lakewood pitchers for 12 hits and drew six walks.
Roster moves: RHP Sam Johns transferred to Auburn roster; LHP Connor Bach transferred from Auburn roster.

Trea Turner Update
Turner singled and walked while going 1-for-3, extending his hit streak to nine games. According to the Washington Post, Turner can join the Nationals tomorrow. For folks wondering/speculating on his next stop, Syracuse returns home on Monday while Harrisburg is in the midst of a six-game, seven-day homestand. Once the trade is done, this feature will end.

It will be interesting to see if Turner plays today, or if he’s already on the way. Kudos to the kid for going out and getting it done on the field despite his limbo status. That says a lot about his “makeup,” an overused term that really seems to apply in this case. There are many young players who would have cratered if faced with the same circumstances, or at least not excelled.
